“You want a divorce?” Credence’s voice was very calm and hushed, it was very difficult to hear him.
However, Dorothy was able to hear his suppressed anger from his calm voice.
She didn’t understand. She asked for a divorce, and she was doing it so that he could have his affair with Melanie. Why was he so angry?
She watched him walk towards her. She blinked and tears streamed out of her eyes. She spoke in a harsh nasally voice. “Credence, we’re in a hospital, I have to go through a very important examination right now.”
“My baby, the baby in my womb, I can’t let anything happen to it. This baby is my only chance left to save Belle. The doctors are ready. Could you please leave and stop wasting my time?”
“As for our own matter, we can talk about it after I finish my check-up.”
The man in front of them was so powerful that he could beat Juelz up all by himself. The other female doctors looked at each other. None of them dared to speak up, none except for the lead doctor.
The lead doctor had excellent skills. She was very well-respected in the hospital. She had seen lots of powerful people before. Although she was afraid of Credence, he had still interrupted her work. She spoke with an annoyed look on her face. “Sir, your wife is in pain. Things are not looking good. If you want her to recover as soon as possible, please leave, and don’t interrupt.”
Dorothy really was in a lot of pain, and she saw the entire room spinning about.
Perhaps meeting Credence worsened her mood, she was feeling more and more helpless. Her legs were already spread apart, as she lay limp on the examination table. She looked pale and weak.
Credence gazed at her pale face and stood there for a few seconds. His heart throbbed, and he felt an intense amount of warm affection for her. He quickly paced over to Dorothy’s side. He bent down, spread out his slender arms, and held her thin body tightly in his arms. “My dear wife, I’m sorry for making you suffer, but I won’t agree to the divorce.”
Ignoring her struggles, he lowered his head and gently kissed her forehead. He looked at her and said, “I’ll wait for you outside.”
Dorothy hadn’t eaten anything earlier in the morning. She had puked, belched, and vomited the entire time she was in pain. Now, she had no strength to resist his kiss, she could only passively accept it. Her eyes were full of tears and she stared at him.
Credence looked into her stubborn eyes and knew that she had no intention of forgiving him. His heart tightened, and the pain he felt made his pupils dilate. His voice turned hoarse as he continued to apologize to her, “I’m sorry, my dear wife. I am so very sorry!”
“That’s enough, get out, get out right now!”
Dorothy did not want to see him anymore. Every time she saw him, she would suffer a severe migraine. It served to remind her to stay away from the man who had hurt her countless times.
She tried to get away, but her hands and legs were restrained onto the examination table by the doctors. She couldn’t get away. She couldn’t control her tears from flowing onto her messy hair.
Her crystal-clear tears seemed to have pierced Credence’s heart. He felt his entire body burning up, he couldn’t stop himself from trembling.
That heart-wrenching pain wound him up so much that he felt harder than iron, but yet his entire body was powerless.
For the first time in his life, he understood the true meaning of regret.
“Alright, I’ll leave. I’ll leave right now.”
Credence turned around and walked away from the room. His back, which was usually straighter than a pine tree, was now hunched over.
Hearing his familiar footsteps fading away, Dorothy slowly opened her eyes and looked at the door.
Credence had already left, the door was gently closing.
Upon hearing the sound of the door closing, Dorothy withdrew her gaze. For some strange reason, she felt a sense of loss.
The lead doctor saw the whole scene, then looked at the dazed Dorothy. Without saying a word, she turned her head and ordered the assigned doctors to disinfect all the instruments. She ordered one of them to lock the door, just in case to prevent any more unrelated troublemakers from entering the room.
Upon hearing the words “unrelated”, Dorothy blushed. She pursed her pale lips and looked at the female doctor. She smiled apologetically and said, “I’m sorry to have caused you so much trouble.”
Her voice was gentle and she was well mannered. The lead doctor quickly calmed down. She smiled and kindly patted Dorothy’s arm. “This small operation will be over soon. Don’t be nervous! As long as you cooperate, I promise you’ll be safe.”
Dorothy nodded. She laid flat on the table and allowed the doctors to give her an ultrasound test.
After the examination, the lead doctor’s expression turned solemn. She turned to Dorothy and said, “I am now going to sterilize your belly. After that, I will insert a needle into your womb to extract the amniotic fluid. You must keep still. Do you understand?”
“Yes, I understand.”
When she knew that the crucial moment had arrived, Dorothy took a deep breath and relaxed her body.
Inside the room, the female lead doctor arranged everything in an orderly manner. Outside in the corridor, Credence’s face was sullen. He lit a cigarette and took a few deep breaths. The depths of his eyes were as dark as an abyss.
He stood there for a long time. He then threw his half-finished cigarette into a nearby ashtray.
He could only hope that the child in Dorothy’s womb was safe. Otherwise, she would never forgive him for the rest of her life.
Marvin strode over with two bags. “Credence, you haven’t eaten anything ever since this morning. I bought you a burger and some iced tea.”
“I’m not hungry.”
“You should at least drink the tea.”
Marvin tried his best to convince him, “Dorothy is pregnant, and you can’t do anything for her, especially under these circumstances. She might not change her mind in such a short time.”
“So, in order to put off the burning heat inside you, you should drink some water. I am afraid that you’ll burn yourself up. Here, take the iced tea. It’s for your own good.”
Credence ignored Marvin’s joke and coldly stared at him. He frowned. “The situation is much more serious than you think. She wants a divorce. She is very determined about it!”
“Divorce? That’s serious!”
Marvin wiped his face with his hand. He turned around and stared at the closed room. Suddenly, an idea flashed through his mind, and he murmured, “Credence, after hearing what you said, I thought of a way to deal with Melanie. It’s a good way to kill two birds with one stone!”
