Dorothy was flustered by Germaine’s question.
What else was she to do if she wasn’t going to cut off all ties with Credence?
Was she supposed to continue loving him and suffer?
Noticing Dorothy’s flustered look, Germaine could see she had hurt her. She coughed and said, “About that, Dory, I may have gone too far earlier. Don’t take it to heart. Credence is just a shameless jerk. The sooner you break up with him, the sooner you’ll be free from pain.”
“Besides, Dory, you’re so beautiful and gentle. As long as a man has eyes, he’ll definitely like you. If you weren’t such a wonderful woman, that silly Juelz wouldn’t have loved you for all those years. He’s loved you ever since he was a young man, now he is a middle-aged man, humph.”
Dorothy was drinking tea as they talked. Her hand that was holding her teacup paused and she smiled. “Germaine, I have always treated Juelz like a brother! Juelz is a good man. He deserves a better woman, not me.”
Ever since that night when she was rescued by Credence, she felt like a gambler who lost all her money. She lost all her assets and her eyes turned red. She had given all her feelings to Credence, be it love or hate!
She had given Credence everything she had, how could she have any feelings for another man?
“Germaine, let’s not talk about these things again, okay? It’s not fair for Juelz.” Dorothy took a deep breath and forced a smile. However, tears could be seen in her eyes.
“Germaine, do you think I’m a b*tch? Do you think I have no limit? Credence has hurt me over and over again. He made me lose my child and almost took my life. But I still remember how he saved me when I was only 16. I can’t forget the gentleness he showed me.”
“I think… I won’t be able to love anyone else but Credence for the rest of my life.”
Germaine knew her well. She rarely expressed her opinions, but when she did, it meant that there would be no room for negotiation.
Which meant that there was no room for Juelz in Dorothy’s heart.
No matter how bad Credence treated her, she couldn’t get rid of that love she felt back when she was young.
Dorothy wasn’t the only one, it was the same for Germaine, wasn’t it?
No matter how nice Jeremy was to her or how vicious he treated her that night, she couldn’t forget Jeremy, ever.
She hated him, but she loved him more!
The deeper her love, the stronger her hatred!
She had so many men by her side, but there wasn’t a single person who could replace Jeremy.
Germaine didn’t want to make the mood so serious. She squinted her eyes and smiled widely. “Okay, okay, I’ll stop talking about Credence or Jeremy. I’ll stop talking about those unfaithful men. Tell them to f*ck off. From now on, it’s just the two of us, we’ll be friends for life!”
“Ok… that’s enough bragging. Dory, let’s throw these ugly flowers away.”
She turned around and quickly left the room. The moment she opened the door, she bumped into Juelz. She was so surprised, she almost screamed, “Juelz, do you want to scare me to death? I would have died from shock, don’t you know that?”
Julz completely ignored her. He looked at the flowers in her hands. His gaze looked sad and cold. It was as though something was stirring in him.
Germaine realized how it looked. She quickly threw the flowers into the trash can. After that, she pulled on his arm and dragged him to the other side of the corridor. She could feel how cold his hands were, and she immediately felt nervous. “Juelz, how long have you been there, how much did you hear? Did you hear everything?”
Juelz turned a deaf ear to her question. After a while, he slowly raised his eyebrows and clenched his fists. He said with a mocking tone, “Actually, I’d rather pretend to not have heard anything. At least I would be able to keep a glimmer of hope in my heart.”
“I could even lie to myself and say that Dory doesn’t have any feelings for me yet. I could tell myself that as long as I continue to treat her well, she’d definitely change her mind, and she would slowly respond to my feelings. However, I was wrong! When it comes to love, if I am not the first to touch her heart, then nothing I do will matter.”
“When I heard Dorothy say that she could only love Credence for the rest of her life and that she would introduce me to other girls, I could feel the last glimmer of hope dying off in my heart.”
“If she doesn’t love me, then she doesn’t. Even if I give up all my money for her and risk my life for her, she will only be grateful. She would never love me.”
Juelz’s lips twitched and smiled a crooked smile. “Germaine, I can’t accept this! I won’t accept it! What makes Credence so much better than me? Why does she love Credence and not me?”
Germaine’s mind went blank. She looked at Juelz, who was so sad he looked like he was losing control. It seemed as if his heart was being scratched out with sharp claws.
She handed Juelz several pieces of tissue and comforted him. “Juelz, you should calm down. It’s not that she doesn’t like you. It’s just been so long. Try to understand. She’s never looked up to any other man aside from Credence, not even you.”
“Think about it! If you hadn’t pestered her for so long, she would have long forgotten who you are, right?”
“So, Juelz, the most important thing for you now is not to be in pain. You should muster up your fighting spirit and strive hard to save her from Credence, that great, big jerk. Although you won’t be able to give her love, you can still bring her peace, you can make sure that she won’t be in any more pain. This is the biggest advantage you have against Credence, right? Juelz, go on, I think very highly of you!”
“You are right Germaine.”
Juelz had figured it out. He clenched his fists and his eyes were calm, but in the deepest part of his eyes, there was a glimmer of persistence and despair. “Dory is married to Credence. They are husband and wife, so I’m just an outsider. Credence can’t bring happiness to Dory, and he almost made her have a miscarriage. I have nothing to worry about. I’ll take Dory and her unborn child with me. We’ll leave Talco City forever and ditch Credence. I want him to feel regret for the rest of his life!”
It was 3:25 p. m. Credence wasn’t aware that the flowers and message he ordered the secretary to send to Dorothy did not garner him the desired effect. On the contrary, it had the opposite effect, as it led to Dorothy’s further alienation of him.
However, even if he knew, he couldn’t do anything about that.
He and Marvin were standing outside a small clinic. A cool autumn breeze blew, and their eyes looked as cold as steel!
