Benjamin was shocked when he saw Dorothy falling to the ground with her eyes closed and the pungent smell of blood all around the air. He quickly handed Belle to a nurse who was close to him and ran towards the unconscious Dorothy. He shouted, “Mr. Scott, Mrs. Scott has fainted.”
Credence was answering Marvin’s call from the lounge inside. Marvin asked if he had finished things on his end, and roughly when they would arrive on the rooftop. He was already prepared to leave.
Credence replied Marvin with a “right away” and hung up the phone. Immediately, his left eyelid started twitching, as if something bad was about to happen.
He clutched the phone in his hand tightly and walked out as fast as he could. Suddenly, he heard Benjamin shouting in horror, saying that Dorothy was unconscious. He felt a sharp pain in his heart, as if a knife had twisted itself in.
“Benjamin, I asked you to get people in here to pack up. What the f*ck have you done? She was fine just a moment ago. Why’s she unconscious now?”
After a while, Credence heard himself letting out a hoarse shout. He reached out and felt the cold sweat on his forehead. His entire body turned cold, and he ran over as fast as he could.
Under the piercing white light, he could see Dorothy’s face turning paler and paler. She was lying on the ground all curled up with blood flowing out of her lower body. A horrible smell of blood was in the air, and it stained her sky-blue skirt, her fair calves, and the floor.
She was bleeding profusely.
It was obvious that her abdomen had been impacted in some way before he’d come out of the lounge. All this blood was pointing to a miscarriage.
“Mr. Scott, I’m sorry! It’s all my fault. I did not take good care of Mrs. Scott. It’s all my fault. I admit to my mistakes, and I have no complaints at all!”
Benjamin deeply regretted it, and he wanted nothing more than to stab himself in the chest.
He should have just handed Miss Belle over to her as she requested.
Why did he avoid her?
If he did not avoid her, then she would not have tripped from the suitcase, and she would not fall to the ground, which resulted in such a terrible state of coma and the possibility of miscarriage.
If anything happened to Mrs. Scott or the baby in her womb, he would not be able to repay Mr. Scott even if he had ten lives.
“What’s the use of saying this now? The most important thing is to save her first!”
Among the few nurses present, one of the nurses who looked calm had already crouched down by Dorothy’s side. As she performed first aid, she shouted anxiously at a panicked Benjamin, “Mr. Scott, Mrs. Scott’s pupils are contracted and her breathing is weak. Quick, get a doctor here!”
“Oh, right, the doctor. Alright. I will go and call for a doctor right away.”
Benjamin was so anxious that he could not even speak coherently anymore. He rushed out of the ward like an arrow that was shot out from a bow.
In the ward, Credence had already run to Dorothy’s side. He quickly bent down and reached out his hands to feel her breathing. His heart sank when he couldn’t detect anything.
He immediately held her in his arms and lifted her lids to look at her pupils. They were unfocused, but when the light shone in, they still contracted subconsciously.
Luckily, there was still hope!
Credence’s racing heart slowed a little. There was no time to relax, however, and he immediately ran out of the ward with Dorothy in his arms.
He ran too quickly, and his arm scraped harshly against the wall as he turned a corner. Blood immediately gushed out of the open wound.
The blood that came out from his wound mixed with the blood on the hem of Dorothy’s skirt. There were spots of blood, some of which were his and some of which were hers.
Credence did not care about his wounds at all. He focused all his attention on Dorothy.
“My baby… Credence, please, save my baby!”
Dorothy was unconscious, but she wasn’t dead. Her body twitched painfully, and her arms instinctively crossed over her abdomen, as if to protect her child.
Even if she was scared or hurt, she wanted to protect the small and fragile life in her womb with the remaining strength and resilience she had.
At that moment, Credence realized that he was a complete b*stard.
He had always shown great chauvinism in front of her, he always acted on his own will. He was self-opinionated and believed that everything he did for her was for the best. He had always thought about her, but he had never considered her feelings before. He did not even ask if she was willing or not.
For example, this time, she was clearly disagreeing with his idea. She wanted to show her dissatisfaction through shouting and resisting with her weak force, but what did he do?
He still went ahead with his plan to send Dorothy and Belle somewhere safe before Melanie could get her hands on them. Once he was done with Melanie, he’d bring them back. He thought that this was the best for him, Dorothy, and Belle!
When the doctors took Dorothy from Credence and placed her on the stretcher before pushing her into the emergency room hurriedly, Credence slumped against the cold wall, his heart feeling like it had been dug out. He felt emptied, and he sobbed, his eyes bloodshot.
“Dorothy, I’m sorry! Babe, I’m sorry!”
Without even knowing it, Credence’s face was filled with sorrow, his bloodshot eyes tearing up.
Perhaps it was because he had never cried before, thus he could not sense the tears welling up from the corners of his eyes.
His figure was still as straight and powerful as ever, but it seemed like his muscles and bones had been deprived of blood in an instant, and he had become a wind-dried sculpture. He was in a daze and panic-stricken.
Benjamin had never seen Credence in such a sorrowful state. His eyes were filled with shock. He held a thin pack of tissue in his hand, but to him, it felt like it weighed a thousand pounds. He could not lift his arm no matter what.
He ran a hand over his face and lifted his heavy feet to head over to Credence. He passed him the tissues and comforted him uselessly. “Mr. Scott, Mrs. Scott will definitely be fine. The baby will be fine as well!”
At this moment, Credence’s phone was ringing loudly.
However, Credence seemed to have fallen deaf. His eyes focused on the flashing indicator lights outside the emergency room, and he didn’t even blink.
Benjamin sighed, then took the phone from Credence’s hand and answered it.
Marvin’s urging voice came from the other end of the line. “Credence, it’s been more than an hour. Are you done?”
Benjamin’s hand was trembling. Even his voice trembled as he spoke.
“Mr. Jules, Mrs. Scott… Mrs. Scott’s badly injured and she bled a lot. I don’t think she’ll be able to leave any time soon.”
Marvin cursed and said, “I’ll be right there.” After that, he hung up!
