“Where is she?”
Credence lay on the stretcher, an oxygen tube at his throat. He suppressed the pain and spoke hoarsely.
No one knew if he was asking Jonathan or Marvin.
Jonathan was quick to react. He strode over to the stretcher and started pushing it forward. He cried out joyfully, “F*ck, thank God you’re okay, Credence!”
Marvin’s furrowed brows unfurled, and a smile formed on his face. He strode over as well and he teased, “Credence, already thinking about your woman the moment you’re off the operating table?”
“She is with Juelz, isn’t she?”
He pursed his bloodless lips tightly, his eyes turning to focus on the elevator.
In just a few seconds, his face seemed to become more haggard. His face looked even paler under the harsh, white lights.
Jonathan nodded and said matter-of-factly, “Of course! Credence, you’ve been in there for almost six hours, and she’s been with Juelz for as long. She hasn’t even brought Belle back here. I think she’s probably going to spend the night there.”
Marvin was helping the nurses move Credence from the stretcher to the bed when he heard Jonathan speak. He frowned disapprovingly and observed Credence.
He didn’t see any hostility or ruthlessness in Credence’s eyes, and he slowly relaxed. He licked his lips and said seriously, “Credence, the doctor said that your blood vessels are already very fragile after a second craniotomy. You definitely can’t take a third one.”
“That’s why, during this period of time, you have to control your emotions and stay calm. It’ll be good for your recovery.”
“If your health turns bad and you die, you’ll lose everything, including your power, status, and woman.”
Marvin had always believed in “less is more”, and he tried not to speak as much as he possibly could. However, he was still a good orator and could give a good speech if he wanted to.
At the very least, it made Credence calm down gradually.
He motioned for Marvin to remove the oxygen tube, but he was silent for a long time. He just said, “Just let her be.”
At this, Jonathan shot up. “What the f*ck? Credence, did the craniotomy affect your brain?”
“It’s almost night time. Are you sure it’s safe to leave Dorothy with Juelz in the middle of the night?”
“Why not?”
Marvin looked at the furious Jonathan with a smile. “Credence beat Juelz up out of jealousy, so as his wife, Dorothy should try her best to comfort the victim, right?”
No one knew which sentence had provoked Jonathan, but he retorted, “There’s no problem with comforting, but the whole of Talco City knows that Juelz is waiting to pounce on Dorothy. I’m just worried that her comfort will lead to them ending up in bed.”
“Jonathan, what the f*ck are you saying?”
Marvin turned around and glared at Jonathan. He clenched his fists, and the urge to punch Jonathan surged in him.
Didn’t he know what the h*ll he could and couldn’t say?
Wouldn’t Credence feel even worse after hearing that?
“Credence, you get some rest while I go check up on Juelz. If he’s fine, then I’ll get Dorothy and Belle to come back here.”
“No, Marvin.”
Credence closed her eyes. His voice was very soft, like it’d fade with the wind.
“Six years ago, after our divorce, she and Belle wouldn’t have lived till now if it weren’t for Juelz helping her and supporting her. I can’t bear to make things difficult for her. After all, I was the one who caused her all that pain…”
Jonathan and Marvin were both shocked. They had no words to describe their feelings at the moment.
Credence had always been a ruthless and resolute man. However, he now had a weak side after falling in love.
He had truly fallen for Dorothy, which was why he was thinking of her every second.
He didn’t want to see her making a difficult choice, and he did not want to see her in a dilemma. His heart was filled with care and love for her.
Since he could not bear to make things difficult for her, then he had no choice but to bear the difficulties alone.
In the past, he did not understand love, thus Dorothy was the one who got hurt. Now that he understood it, he was the one who was in pain.
Love was fair in all aspects. There would never be an eternal winner, and the loser would not keep on losing forever.
These thoughts flashed in Jonathan’s mind, and he suddenly shuddered at the cheesiness. He immediately nodded and said, “Fine, Credence, Marv and I will listen to you. We’ll leave Dorothy alone… and see how things play out.”
Marvin nodded in agreement as well.
At this moment, the attending doctor hurried in. He checked on Credence’s vitals, then suggested to Marvin and Jonathan that they come up with ways to make Credence as happy as possible.
Credence’s condition had only become worse because he’d been intensely stimulated. The operation and medication would only help a little in the recovery process, so the main thing was still to ensure that Credence himself wasn’t under too much emotional stress.
Jonathan and Marvin knew very well that Dorothy was the source of his stress, and she was the only one who’d be able to solve the problem.
However, it was inconvenient for anyone to intervene in matters of a relationship apart for the parties involved. Besides that, the two of them were single, thus they were unable to give Credence any guidance.
Jonathan sighed, then muttered, “D*mn, why do people want to cause trouble for themselves by getting into relationships? Isn’t it better to just sleep around when the need rises?”
Marvin didn’t even bother responding. Coincidentally, a nurse popped in and said that visiting hours were over, so Marvin walked out of the ward with a frown.
“D*mn, Marv, wait for me!”
Jonathan chased after him in a hurry. The moment the door was pulled open, they heard the sounds of heels clacking against the floor.
Credence had been lying on the bed with his eyes closed. At that sound, he trembled and quickly opened his eyes!
