Dorothy held Belle’s hand as they walked over to Credence’s side.
There was a fire exit at the end of the corridor. It was also the only staircase there.
After Dorothy came back to her senses, she realized that Jonathan and Marvin had already sent Credence downstairs.
At this moment, Juelz was being pushed into the operation room. When he saw Dorothy getting further and further away from him, he felt like if he didn’t reach out to catch her, she would forever be lost to him. From now on, he would no longer have a chance of getting her.
His heart ached, and he could not control himself. He shouted, “Dory!”
Dorothy was weighed down by guilt, but she still followed her heart and left Juelz, who’d been badly injured by Credence, to go after Credence.
She stood at the end of the corridor and picked Belle up. She was just about to take the stairs down, but she stiffened at Juelz’s shout.
Juelz was willing to put his life on the line for Belle and had gotten injured because of her. By right, she should stay here and wait for him to be safe.
However, the person she was really worried about was Credence!
It was a tough choice to make, and she’d decided to follow her heart and go after Credence. Was it… was it the right decision to make?
Sontha piped up, “Miss Fisher, Mr. Sherman is in critical condition now. Can you wait till Mr. Sherman is safe before leaving?”
“But, I…”
Dorothy held Belle in her arms tightly, almost to the point that Belle was in pain.
She looked like she was struggling to make a decision.
She had never experienced this, where she found it impossible to make a choice. It was difficult for her to do anything.
She heart two voices in her heart taking turns to talk to her.
One asked, “If anything happens to Juelz because he was beaten up by Credence, wouldn’t you feel guilty for the rest of your life?”
The other voice argued, “If you stayed here and something bad happens to Credence, you won’t be able to see him for the last time. Won’t that be a regret for you, Belle, and the child in your womb?”
“Miss Fisher, please just stay here with Mr. Sherman for a few more minutes?” Sontha turned and looked at Dorothy pleadingly.
Juelz had already been pushed into the operation room. He couldn’t see Dorothy, and he couldn’t see her expressions, but he knew exactly what was going on. He could forcibly keep her here, but if her heart wasn’t here, what was the point?
His chest ached, and blood gushed out of Juelz’s mouth, dying his clothes red.
The attending doctor looked at him disapprovingly. “Mr. Sherman, please stop getting agitated if you don’t want to die.”
Juelz coughed.
He ignored the doctor’s rudeness and used all his strength to shout hoarsely, “Dory, Credence’s injury is probably much worse than mine. Go and watch over him! I’ll be fine.”
At this, Sontha sighed. He didn’t try to keep Dorothy here anymore.
Alas, Mr. Sherman clearly wanted Dorothy to stay, but he still pushed her into another man’s embrace. Why did love have to be so painful?
After hearing Juelz’s words, Dorothy’s heart hurt so much that it was about to break into pieces.
She turned around with Belle in her arms, but Juelz had already been pushed into the operating room. The only thing she caught was the sound of the doors closing.
Sontha stood still, looking at Dorothy calmly. He said, “Miss Fisher, if I said anything that hurt you just now, I apologise.”
“It’s fine.”
Dorothy shook her head and looked away. She did not meet Sontha’s eyes because she was afraid to see the disappointment and disapproval in his eyes.
During her six years in Monticello, she didn’t work. She had to take care of Belle, and rent a place. They needed money for everything.
Though Credence had given her a hefty sum after their divorce, she’d spent it all on Belle’s illness, and it wasn’t even enough.
At her lowest, most difficult moment, Juelz was the one who’d stayed by her side. He’d helped her, both monetarily and mentally.
He was a good friend and brother, and his love for her was sincere. He’d treated her extremely well, and he hadn’t asked for any repayment.
Now, he was badly injured and had to be operated on, but he was still generous to her, taking the initiative to ask her to be with Credence.
After thinking for a long time, Dorothy finally decided to stay and wait for Juelz to come out of the operating room.
…
In the emergency room in a building far away from where she was.
Jonathan and Marvin stood side by side outside the emergency room, as if they were two guards.
Marvin stared at the tightly closed door, but Jonathan turned back to look at the elevator every now and then. He blabbered on, “Marv, it doesn’t take too long to get here from Juelz’s building. Why aren’t Dorothy and Belle here yet?”
Marvin didn’t say anything, but his gaze swept over his watch, then he frowned.
It had been an hour, and even a snail would’ve gotten here already, yet Dorothy and Belle were still absent. There was only one possibility, which was that she had decided to stay by Juelz’s side.
Jonathan also realised what had happened, and he kicked the wall angrily. He cursed loudly, “F*ck, what does she mean by staying with Juelz Sherman? Is she trying to cuckold Credence while he’s out of it?”
“And that Belle doesn’t look Credence’s child at all, with her blue eyes!”
“If I hadn’t done the paternity test personally, I really wouldn’t believe that Belle is truly Credence’s daughter.”
“Whatever happens with Credence’s woman is his own business. What are you getting mad at?”
Marvin raised his eyebrows amusedly, then mocked, “Don’t tell me it’s because you’re sexually frustrated? Come on, it’s been three or four months, hasn’t it? You still haven’t gotten that little nurse in your hands yet?”
Jonathan pulled at his hair in exasperation. “Don’t even bring her up! F*ck, I’ll f*ck her over sooner or later!”
“If you really did that, she’d sue the pants off of you for r*pe, don’t you think?”
“Of course she will! D*mn it, I can’t believe I’m interested in her.”
Jonathan sighed, so exasperated that he wanted to jump off a building.
With Minnie’s bad temper, she would surely treat him that cruelly.
Moreover, she had a crush on some guy that she’d grown up with. Even if that guy was some scumbag who was involved with plenty of girls, she still liked him.
He was the dean of the hospital. Which part of him was inferior to that scumbag?
After a small chat, the two of them remained silent for a long time.
Credence’s operation lasted for nearly five hours. It was not until the sun had set that the door of the emergency room was pushed open by the doctors from the inside.
Credence had undergone a brain surgery, and they did not use too much anesthesia on him. Hence, Credence soon woke up after he was pushed out.
Various tubes were plugged into his body, and his handsome face was ashen. He held down the sharp pain in his head and body and swept his gaze over his surroundings. When he saw only Jonathan and Marvin, and Dorothy wasn’t in sight, pain flashed in his eyes.
