Chapter 323 A Familiar Stranger

On the other side, Dorothy and Benjamin chased after Jeremy and his men. They ran out of the hospital and jumped into a car, then sped off towards the left. It looked like they were heading for Jeremy’s private hospital.
“Mrs. Scott, please sit tight. I’ll go after them right now.”
The wound on Benjamin’s waist that Wilson had inflicted had already been bandaged properly. The doctor had also administered some anesthetic, so it didn’t hurt too badly. He could probably hold it out for the moment.
Dorothy got into the backseat. From the rearview mirror, she saw that Benjamin looked rather pale. She didn’t know that it was because of the wound, and she thought it was because he was sleep-deprived. She smiled awkwardly and said, “I’m sorry that you have to stay up late to drive me around like this.”
“It is my duty to serve you, Mrs. Scott.”
Benjamin smiled politely. He drove the black Maybach and followed closely after Jeremy’s car, but with a few cars between them to avoid being caught.
In Jeremy’s car, while they were stopped at a red light, Wilson turned back to look at Jeremy with a sycophantic smile. “Boss, how does it feel having Miss Germaine in your arms?”
Jeremy didn’t look up, nor did he pay Wilson any attention. His dark gaze just fell on Germaine’s face, on her ashen face and closed eyes. Her breathing was almost imperceptible, and she looked no different from a corpse. His face darkened, and he said sinisterly, “Cut the crap and run the red light. Can’t you see that Germaine’s dying?”
After being scolded, Wilson immediately kept his mouth shut.
He put the pedal to the metal, and the car roared towards the west.
Oh man, if anything really did happen to Miss Germaine, Wilson was afraid that his boss would chop his head off and kick it around like a football.
Saving her was crucial. Thus he needed to rush to his boss’ hospital as soon as possible to save Miss Germaine. There was no time to waste.
When they arrived at the hospital, Germaine was soon sent to the emergency room. The doctors were all veterans with the best skills in the world, and Jeremy had personally called them back to the hospital.
Most of them had been startled from their sleep, but they didn’t dare dally around. They rushed to the hospital and got ready to treat Germaine to the best of their abilities.
The red indicator lights flickered, and the doors of the emergency room were closed. Jeremy stood by the corridor’s window, smoking incessantly, but calmly.
He didn’t know whether Germaine would be as repulsed by him as she was in the hotel when she woke up, but he couldn’t just watch her die.
It would be wise to choose the lesser of two evils. As of now, he could only take one step at a time.
Wilson stared at his boss’ figure and sighed. He decided to go buy some tonics that would help in Miss Germaine’s recovery, then pass it to his boss so that he could feed Miss Germaine. Perhaps it would help repair their relationship.

Benjamin had been on Jeremy’s tail, with Dorothy in the backseat.
However, along the way, Jeremy ran the red light and he lost them.
Because of that, they’d had to take multiple detours and they spent more than two hours before finally getting to their destination.
They were sure that this was Jeremy’s hospital, because his white luxury car was parked right outside. Dorothy caught sight of it almost instantly, and told Benjamin to stop the car.
Before the car was even completely stopped, Dorothy had already jumped out and ran into the hospital.
“Mrs. Scott, slow down. Be careful on the way.”
After parking the car, Benjamin got out as well and chased after Dorothy. They headed straight to the operation theatre.
They asked a nurse of the operation theatre’s exact location. Dorothy saw that both lifts were packed, so she quickly ran straight to the stairwell.
Soon, they arrived at the second floor.
Dorothy had just caught sight of Jeremy when the doors of the emergency room opened.
The nurse pushed Germaine out, and she seemed to be awake. She slowly opened her bloodshot eyes, and the first person she saw was Jeremy. She immediately recalled how he’d tormented her, and terror flashed in her eyes.
She suddenly shook her head violently, and she screamed with a hoarse voice, “Jeremy, don’t come over. Please, go away. The whip hurts. It’s so painful. I’m dying from the pain! I don’t want to see you.”
“If you don’t want to see me, then who do you want to see? Do you want to see those useless men that you’ve spent your nights with?”
Jeremy’s heart ached at Germaine’s repulsion of him. He ignored her terror and rejection and reached out to hold her tightly, his whole body tensed. “Germaine, I’ve only made this one mistake. Do you really plan on holding a grudge against me forever? Are you going to stay away from me forever?”
Germaine tried to back away, but she was tied to the stretcher.
Soon, her eyes filled with sorrowful tears, and her gaze dazedly swept over Dorothy. She immediately tried to wrestle out of Jeremy’s grip and looked at Dorothy pleadingly. “Dory, save me, please take me away from here! I don’t want to stay here, not with him around.”
Germaine had always been a proud, happy-go-lucky woman. This was the first time Dorothy had seen her looking so lost and terrified, and it broke her heart.
With tears in her eyes, she ignored Jeremy’s ice-cold gaze and ran up to Germaine. She held on to Germaine’s cold fingers, sobbing out, “Okay, Germaine, I’ll take you away. I’ll take you away right now.”
Dorothy comforted Germaine and pushed her to the elevator with Benjamin’s help.
It was as if she felt a sense of security from Dorothy’s presence. Germaine’s trembling body slowly calmed down, and her hands relaxed. She gripped Dorothy’s fingers, and a tear slowly slid down her face.
Jeremy felt like it was pounding on his heart.
That was his first time experiencing heartbreak.
He wanted nothing more than to go back in time and beat himself up for ruthlessly torturing Germaine like that.
No!
He could not just let Dorothy take her away like that!
A trace of ruthlessness appeared in Jeremy’s eyes, and he strode in front of Dorothy. He blocked them, and said hoarsely, “Germaine, stay! You’ve always wanted to know why I’ve kept you at arm’s length, haven’t you? Stay, and I’ll tell you everything about me.”
Dorothy sneered, as if she’d just heard a joke. “Mr. Sherman, do you think Germaine’s as easily tricked as a child?”
Meanwhile, Germaine covered herself with the white quilt. She shuddered and shrieked, “Dory, make him go away! I don’t want to see him anymore!”
Jeremy’s heart sank. He didn’t have the strength to move anymore, but he wasn’t willing to just give up like that. He yelled, “Germaine, do we really have to do this? Do you really want us to end up becoming familiar strangers?”
