“Credence! What the f*ck, why does it look like you are going to die?”
“Juelz, get out of my way! I need to save him. Stop blocking my way.”
The sound of waves crashing, and Marvin’s enraged yells shot through Dorothy’s brain.
Her head felt like it was going to explode. Had Credence been sent to the hospital?
The light above her head was white and eye-watering.
She wanted to just continue sleeping like this till the end of time.
However, she could not do that.
From time to time, an annoying voice rang in her ears. It was apprehensive, and pleaded with her to wake up gently yet stubbornly.
Dorothy subconsciously moved her fingers, and her eyelashes fluttered. Then, she heard footsteps coming towards her hurriedly.
She did not know if it was a doctor or someone else.
Dorothy felt someone hold onto her cold wrist tightly and scoot close to her ear. The person said something, but she didn’t hear a word.
“Dory, are you awake? That’s great!”
After sending Dorothy to the hospital, Juelz had stood guard by her side like a loyal dog. He refused to leave her for even a moment.
At this moment, when he saw her eyes twitch, he hurried to her bedside, his bloodshot eyes filling with joy and surprise. “Dory, are you thirsty? Or hungry? Tell me what you want to eat the most and I’ll go and get it for you right now!”
However, it seemed that Dorothy hadn’t heard a word he’d said. She struggled to open her eyes, and vaguely saw a figure stooping over her. She thought it was the doctor, and asked hoarsely, “Doctor, is… is Credence Scott here? How’s he doing? Is he awake?”
She was parched, and she’d just woken up from a coma. Her strength was completely depleted, and she’d had to break down her short sentence into a few segments.
Juelz’s eyes, originally filled with tenderness and guilt, morphed into anger and coldness at the mention of Credence’s name. He wanted to reach out to caress Dorothy’s hair, but stopped himself mid-air.
He retracted his hand with difficulty and was about to stand up when he heard Dorothy pleading in a low voice, “Juelz, please send Credence to the hospital. Please, I’m begging you. I don’t want him to die.”
“Dory, wake up. Marvin’s already sent Credence to the hospital.”
Juelz looked at Dorothy, who was evidently still stuck in her memory of being at the seaside. He couldn’t help letting out a bitter smile.
She was still worried about Credence, despite having been unconscious for a whole day and not having anything to eat or drink for several hours.
A gentle smile formed on her cracked lips because of her heart-wrenching worry. It made her look especially beautiful.
It was a charming, dazzling brightness that Juelz had never seen.
This was something that Dorothy only displayed when she saw Credence.
She must really love Credence deeply!
Because of her love for him, her eyes and heart were almost overflowing with sweetness.
She didn’t love Juelz, which was why when she looked at him, her smile would only be one of surprise or happiness. It had never been one of such deep, sincere attraction.
She had never showed him such a sweet smile before.
Dorothy truly only thought of Juelz as her brother. She only saw him as her family, and she couldn’t form any feelings of love for him.
Realizing this, Juelz’s face darkened, and his eyes were filled with a thick gloom that could not dissipate no matter what.
Then, he heard Dorothy say, “Juelz, there’s a man on the hillside there. He’s watching us, look, quick!”
“Dory!”
Juelz’s brows furrowed tightly. He guessed that Dorothy had seen something before she passed out.
The place that Dorothy and Credence were stranded was extremely out of the way. There was no way that normal tourists would be there.
Anyone who could get there would definitely not be a normal tourist either.
Who on earth could it be?
The first person Juelz thought of was Jeremy, but he quickly shook his head.
Dorothy knew Jeremy. If it were him, Dorothy would definitely say that it was him, and not just a man.
….
Dorothy finally opened her eyes after being trapped in her haziness for about half an hour. When she saw all the whiteness around her and smelled the disinfectant, she realised that she was in the hospital.
She subconsciously moved her fingers and found that someone was holding her hand.
She slowly turned her head to the left with difficulty. She saw Juelz coming up close to her, his face filled with joy and also traces of guilt. “Dory, you’re finally awake. You’ve been out for a whole day and night.”
Dorothy moved her lips weakly, her voice hoarse. “Juelz, where’s Credence? How is he?”
The first thing she asked about was Credence’s condition. She didn’t even ask about how Belle was doing.
Juelz’s heart shattered, but when he saw how obstinately Dorothy was looking at him, he had no choice but to nod and say, “He should be fine. Marvin brought him to Jonathan’s hospital.”
Dorothy blinked slowly. “If he’s there, then where am I?”
“You are with Belle.”
“Why didn’t you bring Credence to this hospital as well?” Dorothy almost yelled. She struggled to sit up, and accidentally pulled on a nerve. It hurt her so badly she almost blacked out again.
“Perhaps, Marvin and Jonathan were afraid that I would harm Credence.”
Juelz quickly reached out to steady Dorothy, then finally asked, “Dorothy, you’ve fallen in love with Credence again, haven’t you? Is that why you’re so worried about him?”
Or perhaps she had never stopped loving him.
At this, Dorothy wrested out of his grip and leaned back against the bed. She sighed. “Juelz, I don’t know how exactly I feel about Credence. However, I’ve never hoped for his death, even when I was at my most painful in our marriage.”
After saying that, Dorothy suddenly recalled their time together in the ocean. Her heart contracted abruptly, and her eyes turned red.
Though it was true that Credence owed her for everything that had happened in the past, he’d given up his life for hers without hesitation. What more could she ask for?
Wasn’t it every woman’s wish for the man she loved to protect her whenever she was in danger?
What he had done was so much more than everything she expected!
“Dory, I understand now.”
Juelz smiled gently at Dorothy and said, “I’ll bring Belle over here to eat with you.”
After he left, a few doctors came in.
The attending doctor was a kind woman. She walked up to Dorothy and smiled while nodding when she saw that Dorothy was awake. She placed an instrument on Dorothy’s stomach and looked at the screen seriously.
After that, she threw a piece of big news at Dorothy.
“Doctor, what did you just say?”
Dorothy was in so much shock that a nerve in her forehead twitched. Her eyes widened in shock and she was dazed.
