Chapter 291 Negotiation

Thanks to the moonlight, Dorothy managed to see that this dilapidated building was build right along the edge of the cliff.
Waves roared and splashed around. As it did, white foam constantly piled up.
She slowly raised her head, and she couldn’t focus on anything aside from Credence’s tall figure as he approached her. He was like a god descending on earth, bringing her immense hope and joy.
Gabe still had her neck in a death grip, and she was dangling halfway out the window. She couldn’t move.
He had finally arrived, he had finally come to save her.
“Credence!” Dorothy’s eyes widened as she stared at Credence.
Her heart, which had been in despair for a very, very long time, throbbed with excitement. She was full of joy and ecstasy.
At this moment, Gabe saw two of his men being kicked by a man dressed in army green. They landed on the ground and let out pained yells. Gabe shuddered and said, “Stay right where you are and don’t come any closer. One more step and I’ll let this woman drop into the ocean. Nobody’s going to get away!”
Credence frowned coldly. At Gabe’s fear, he stopped and said, “Let her go, and I guarantee you won’t die!”
He would spare this b*stard’s life, but only just barely.
Sometimes, living would be more painful than death.
In the dim attic, Credence’s words had just fallen when Marvin shot towards the other two thugs and gave them two hard punches.
The two of them spat out blood, which spattered over the walls and over Gabe’s arm. He couldn’t help shuddering, and he immediately realised that these two monsters weren’t going to let him go.
The overbearing horror that was emanating from Credence was suffocating him.
Marvin knocked out the two other thugs and walked over to Credence. He took a drag of his cigarette and blew out smoke, then looked over at Gabe before asking, “As usual, you take the left and I take the right?”
This was the signal they used when they carried out missions.
Left meant that Marvin would deal with Gabe.
Right indicated that Credence was responsible for rescuing Dorothy.
Credence stared at Dorothy in silence, his cold face looking like a statue. However, his gaze was gentle as he said to her, “Don’t worry, I’m here for you!”
“Even if something happens to me, I’ll make sure you’re safe.”
Seeing the two men in front of him both exuding a strong murderous intent, Gabe knew that he was going to die just like his three companions. He made up his mind and his eyes turned ferocious. “Since you’ve already killed my men, I doubt you’ll let me go. If I’m going to end up dead either way, I’m bringing her with me!”
As he spoke. Gabe suddenly tightened his grip around her neck as he gnashed his teeth.
Dorothy’s heart jolted and she noticed that his grip was blocking her windpipe. It was getting harder and harder for her to breathe.
She coughed.
With her palms sweating, Dorothy tried her best to continue coughing so that she could get some air into her lungs. When she met Credence’s gentle yet worried gaze, she struggled violently, her plea to save her almost out of her mouth.
All of a sudden, the grip on her neck increased once more, and it left a mark.
Dorothy hissed in pain, and she became alert once again. She knew that she had to stop struggling so that she wouldn’t continue to anger Gabe.
Seeing how well-behaved she was, Gabe gritted his teeth and looked at Credence and Marvin fiercely. “I know you two are fast and ruthless, but if you take one more step, I’ll let her go immediately. She’ll fall right into the ocean!”
“F*ck!”
Marvin spat out the cigarette in his mouth. He was so angry that his gaze frosted over. “Credence, we can’t let scum like this go.”
Fortunately, he was smart enough to not bring the policemen up.
Otherwise, how could he beat him up until he was satisfied?
If it weren’t for the fact that they needed someone to be alive for the police interrogation, he’d definitely beat all of them to a pulp so that they couldn’t continue committing crimes.
Credence slowly rolled up his sleeves, his sharp gaze falling on Gabe’s face. A smile, cold as ice, formed on his lips. “Let her go and I’ll agree to any of your demands. I’m a man of my word!”
“Do you think I will believe you?”
Gabe laughed viciously. He was filled with hatred for these two men who’d killed his men the moment they stepped in. How would he ever agree to let Dorothy go?
This woman was his shield. He could use her to block bullets and arrows.
If he really did let her go, then the only thing left for him was death.
“What should I do to make you believe me?”
Gabe took out a gleaming machete from somewhere and threw it at Credence’s feet. He said savagely, “Chop off both of your legs.”
Marvin cursed out loud at being at the mercy of some thug. “F*ck, Credence, stop wasting time with him and just do as I said! We’ll go at him together and I’ll take him down while you save Dorothy! I don’t believe that we’re no match for some flunky like him.”
“No.”
Credence shook his head coldly. “I can’t risk her life at all.”
There was no way he’d be able to handle the pain of losing Dorothy, because she was already deeply rooted in his heart.
Gabe laughed mockingly. “Chop off your legs, then!”
Gabe could tell that the elegant, noble man in front of him really had the intention of injuring himself for a woman. “F*ck, do it!”
“No!” Dorothy widened her eyes as Credence bent down to pick up the machete. She panicked, and her voice trembled. “Credence, I don’t want you to do that for me.”
To her, he was a man of indomitable spirit. How could he chop his own legs off and spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair because of her?
She would rather end up as shark bait than watch Credence injure himself for her.
She was reluctant to see him come to any harm even when she hated him, let alone now?
Credence gazed at Dorothy’s haggard yet still beautiful face gently. “Dorothy, I’ll give up my life for you, what more just chopping my legs off.”
She’d given him her unconditional love for years.
Yet he had never even brought her out for a proper meal or a movie.
Other women were able to receive love and care from their husbands, but he’d never given her anything, even if it were fake.
If he could not risk himself to protect her, how could he be worthy of her love?
“Credence, you…”
In that instant, Dorothy looked into Credence’s eyes and saw his love for her.
It was as clear as day, and it was etched into his eyes.
Dorothy suddenly didn’t feel afraid anymore. She’d loved this man for seventeen years, and she’d come to the realisation that she wasn’t the only one contributing to their relationship.
He’d started to care for her as well.
Moreover, they had a precious daughter too. That alone was enough.
She had to make a decision!
Dorothy knew that if she continued to delay, Credence would definitely chop his legs off.
If Gabe continued to use her to threaten Credence to chop his arms off as well, he’d do it.
She loved him, and she did not want him to be hurt.
Therefore, Dorothy tilted her head and tried to take in more oxygen. She smiled at Credence and said, “Take good care of Belle, and I love you!”
After that, Dorothy used all of her strength to break free of Gabe’s grip. She lost her balance and immediately fell right into the ocean below…
