Suddenly, there was a loud bang.
It was the sound of the door being kicked. Along with it came the voices of a policeman saying, “Open the door! We’re investigating a case!”
The shouting fell right into the ears of everybody in the attic.
They all gasped.
Especially Dorothy. She trembled instinctively, and she knew that Credence and Marvin were here to save her. She tried her best to break free of her bonds, and her tongue desperately pushed against the tape over her mouth.
Gabe shuddered and immediately retracted his hand from underneath Dorothy’s skirt. He swore loudly, “F*ck, how’d they get here so soon? Can’t they just let me have fun for once?”
Compared to Gabe’s surprise, the other three were completely stunned. They clamored, “Boss, the cops are really here! They’re right down there, what should we do?”
“The door’s only made of wood, it’s not sturdy enough. It can’t stand for long, boss. Think of something!”
“Boss, I don’t want to go to jail, I don’t want to die!”
The three thugs, who’d still been full of arrogance a while ago, lost their bravado and huddled around Gabe, who was exasperated.
“What’s there to be afraid of? It’s not our first time being chased by cops.” Gabe turned and looked at Dorothy cruelly, who was still struggling. He let out a sinister laugh. “In for a penny and in for a pound. Let’s throw her into the ocean for the sharks to enjoy.”
His laugh was eerie, creepy, and horrible.
“Alright, let’s do what boss says! Once she’s gone, the cops won’t have anything on us. The most they’ll do is give us a verbal warning.”
“That’s right. Come on, lift her up and throw her out the window! The faster, the better!”
Dorothy’s scalp tingled as she watched the four thugs encircle her and prepare to lift her up. Right at this moment, she managed to push open the tape over her mouth. She ignored the pain as the tape separated from her lips and tried to bargain with the thugs.
She did not know how long it would take for Credence to come to where she was from downstairs. However, at this moment, these thugs would definitely be faster at throwing her into the sea.
With her weak condition, if she fell into the cold sea, she would definitely die.
She mustered the remnants of her strength and looked at Gabe, saying calmly, “Guys, there’s no ill will between us. I know very clearly that you guys just want money, whereas I just want to live. That’s my husband downstairs, and he can be considered as a wealthy man in Talco City. As long as you let me go, I’ll persuade him to give you at least two million dollars. How’s that?”
This move would determine her life.
Dorothy tried to stay calm, but deep down in her heart, she was anxious.
Gabe’s hands were holding on to Dorothy’s ankles tightly, and he was getting ready to drag her to the window. At her words, he narrowed his eyes and remained silent.
One of the thugs on Gabe’s left said, “Boss, I’ve never even seen two million dollars. She doesn’t look like she’s lying. Don’t you want to think about it?”
The other two didn’t express their opinions, but they were looking at Gabe expectantly.
Gabe had done a lot of evil things in his life, and he had long developed a suspicion towards everyone. He was still dubious about Dorothy’s words.
But when he saw how tempted the others were by her words, he could not refuse.
After all, it wasn’t easy to operate on his own, and there was no way he’d be able to escape from the police.
Gabe thought for a few seconds, then he tightened his grip on Dorothy’s ankles. He threatened her lowly, “When someone knocks on the door, you tell your man to stand outside alone. We’ll only let you go once he transfers the money to us.”
“Also, you have to tell him that we didn’t do anything to you. Your wounds were caused by the man who threw you out from the car.”
“Tell him that we felt pity for you and brought you back to attend to your wounds. You got me?”
In other words, not only had they not done anything to Dorothy, they’d even be treated as her saviours.
Dorothy’s life was on the line. She could only suppress her disgust and nod her head in agreements.
Aside from Gabe, the other three thugs were elated. They quickly rearranged Dorothy’s clothes and hurriedly did some first aid for her before placing her on the sofa. They even took out a loaf of bread from the fridge and stuffed it into her hands. “Here you go, lady, you’ll have strength to talk to your man once you eat.”
Dorothy reluctantly took the bread in her hands and lowered her head to conceal the ruthlessness in her eyes.
From the moment she realised that these thugs were human traffickers, she didn’t plan on letting them get away.
The banging came again.
The tightly shut door creaked under the force of the banging.
Dorothy was so anxious that her heart jumped to her throat.
She knew that Credence had to be outside.
He had come to save her!
One of the thugs that was smaller in size licked his lips and let out a greedy smile. “Boss, I’ll go open the door. I think two million isn’t enough. We have to bring it up to four million! Then we’ll each have a million, and we can do whatever we want with it!”
The two other thugs laughed along with him.
Only Gabe noticed a cold aura coming from outside the door. He sensed the danger that came with it and couldn’t stop himself from getting goosebumps.
Instead of moving forward, he stood behind Dorothy and grabbed her by the throat. He told her in a low voice, “Don’t move! If you make even a single sound, I’ll strangle you.”
Dorothy didn’t even have time to react when the door opened. The thug that opened the door was rammed into the wall by Credence’s fist. He didn’t get move anymore.
Then, the next second, Gabe lifted her up into the air and dragged her to the window. Half her body was dangling out the window, and she could even feel the waves splashing onto her face. She shivered from the cold.
She was cold and numb, and also terrified.
Her lips quivered for a long time before she hoarsely said her first words, “Credence, save me!”
