Chapter 173 Intimidation

After leaving the hotel, Germaine drove Dorothy back to the apartment.
She took her keys out and opened the door. Belle skipped towards her and hugged her thighs, her pink face was filled with sadness. She whined, “Mommy, you didn’t tell me a bedtime story last night. Where did you go? I missed you so much!”
Listening to her daughter’s coquettish cries, Dorothy’s heart almost melted.
She held Belle’s soft little body and gently kissed her face, “Mommy had to go on a business trip. I’ve missed you too, my baby Belle!”
After playing with Belle for a while, Dorothy walked into the kitchen, and the babysitter who they had hired, Madam Wood, was busy preparing lunch. Belle’s meal was nutritious, and everything was made according to the doctor’s strict plans.
Dorothy felt relieved upon seeing the babysitter doing her job meticulously, “Madam Wood, thank you for your hard work during this period of time.”
“Miss Fisher, please don’t say that. It’s part of my duty.”
Madam Wood put down the knife and ingredients in her hands, walked towards Dorothy, and said in a low voice, “Compared to last week, Belle’s appetite is getting worse. Sometimes she even cries in pain. Miss Fisher, I know you are busy with work, but it would be better for you to take her to see a doctor when you have the time.”
“Alright, I understand.”
It seemed like her daughter’s condition was getting worse.
Dorothy walked out of the kitchen and stood at the door as she watched Belle play with Germaine, appearing cute and lively. She could not help but touch her flat abdomen, immensely hoping that she could give birth to a new life.
Not only was it another lifeform, it could give Belle another chance in life!
Germaine played with Belle for a few minutes, then her phone suddenly rang. She quickly answered the phone. After hearing the caller’s words, her face suddenly shifted and she hurriedly hung up. She walked towards Dorothy and said with a serious face, “Dory, there’s a possibility that the things we did last night have been discovered.”
“Why? What happened?”
When she saw Germaine’s serious expression, Dorothy’s mood darkened.
She noticed that Belle was looking over at them curiously, so Germaine quickly pulled Dorothy to her bedroom and whispered, “Credence woke up furious when he realized that he had been humiliated by you.”
“He searched through the surveillance footage of the hotel but could not find any useful information, so he grew even more annoyed. He went on to seek out the most powerful private detective in Talco City. I don’t know the name of the investigator, but he really wants to get to the bottom of this. We’re doomed, we’re absolutely doomed!”
“Should I take Belle and leave Talco City first?”
Dorothy’s face suddenly paled and her breathing grew rapid as she filled with anxiety.
She had always known that Credence would seek vengeance for even the smallest grudges. He had lived his life holding onto the principle, ‘an eye for an eye’.”
She had disregarded him and humiliated him. If he investigated this matter and found her out, then the only thing waiting for her was a life that was even worse than dying.
However, he didn’t even suffer any losses!
It was true that she had plotted against him, but as the situation escalated, he had been the one in control.
If Credence had not cooperated with her, she would not have been able to complete the mission at all.
The matter was not entirely her fault. If he had not been willing to sleep with her, would she even be able to achieve her goal?
However, in the end, she was the one who had schemed against him first, so she was the one to blame. As of now, the only thing she could do was pray that she would not be discovered.
Dorothy went into contemplation for a while and still felt worried. She decided to take her daughter to hide in another city and stay out of the limelight.
“Germaine, I’ll take Belle to Palm City first. If you get any news about Credence, you must let me know at once. I’m counting on you.”
“Sure, I’ll let you know how many meals he’s had, what he ate, and if he has slept with Rosalie. I will tell you every single detail.”
Germaine nodded seriously and opened the safe. She took a considerable amount of things out from inside and handed them to Dorothy, “Dory, take these credit cards and cash first. I think that you should lay low for a little while longer to confirm whether you are pregnant or not.”
She reluctantly bid Germaine farewell at Talco City Airport. Dorothy carried Belle in one hand and carried her luggage with the other, walking into the cabin.
When they arrived at Palm City, she rented a fully-furnished apartment. Apart from shopping for the essentials, Dorothy and Belle stayed indoors for the entire time. They did not go out if the circumstances did not call for it.
She did not receive any serious news from Germaine in the past week, so she finally relaxed and gradually shifted her focus to her belly, thinking that she should go for a body check-up after one month.

Half a month later, Victor called Benjamin, requesting to hand the reports over to Credence himself.
Benjamin immediately went to the president’s office and passed the message to Credence.
At the same time, Credence was taking a break in the inner lounge. Jonathan laid lazily on the sofa and ate some apples as he browsed through Facebook. When he saw Benjamin entering, he said lazily, “Credence is sleeping. If you have something to say, just tell me. It’s the same as telling it to him.”
Benjamin was exasperated, but it was not a good idea to refute Jonathan, so he could only repeat what Victor had told him.
“Alright, I got it. I’ll let him know once he wakes up. If there’s nothing else, you can go back to your work.”
Jonathan waved his hands, shooing Benjamin away. He immediately jumped up from the sofa and no longer kept up his lazy appearance. Instead, he tidied up his slightly wrinkled shirt and trousers, put on the looks of a gentle scoundrel, rushed to the main doors of the company, and excitedly welcomed Victor in.
Victor entered the office to report two important pieces of news.
The first piece of news was about the mastermind behind Credence’s accident. He had made some progress and had found the target.
The next was the mystery woman who had humiliated Credence. After he ran a check on every woman present at the party, he had basically narrowed down his list of suspects.
That would mean, Victor would undoubtedly disclose Dorothy’s identity.
So, the reason Jonathan had purposely stood at the main doors of the company was not to welcome Victor with full sincerity but to stop him from exposing Dorothy.
It had been almost over half a month since that happened, but he still remembered Credence’s arrogant words in his fit of anger.
If he were to find the woman who had plotted against him, he would either kill her or make her live a life worse than death.
If Credence continued to torture and hurt her, their relationship would never take a turn for the better again.
Jonathan, for one, was especially reluctant to see Credence being sent into Rosalie’s hands just like that.
In any case, he had to stop Victor from revealing the truth to Credence.
After Victor got out of his car, he saw a handsome devilish man blocking his way. There was a confused look on his shrewd face as he asked, “Mr. Stanton, what is the meaning of this?”
“It’s very simple. Detective Forbes, I just want to go sightseeing with you and talk about life.”
Jonathan did not care about what was on Victor’s mind. He reached out and grabbed his shoulders, forcing him to leave, “Credence is busy right now, and I am the only one who is free. Let’s find somewhere else to talk.”
Victor had no choice but to follow Jonathan to a cafe nearby.
After talking for about half an hour or so, Victor finally agreed to Jonathan’s proposal to conceal Dorothy’s involvement. However, no matter how Jonathan threatened him, he was reluctant to utter a word about the person who had attacked and injured Credence.
Victor would only close his mouth and roll his eyes as he got driven to a corner.
Jonathan could not do anything about it. In the end, he waved his hands and drove Victor away as if he was swatting away a fly.
Ten minutes later, Victor stood outside of Credence’s office. He slowly took in some deep breaths to calm himself down. After that, he extended his hand and politely knocked on the door.
“Come in!”
Victor’s face froze upon hearing the deep and charming voice coming from within. He pushed open the door and calmly walked in.
Credence was sitting calmly behind his desk with his legs crossed. The first two buttons of his black shirt had been unbuttoned, revealing his refined collar bones. He was reading some documents.
He raised his head slightly and saw that his visitor was Victor. He asked casually in a low voice, “So, what’s the progress?”
