Mia’s pov
I refused to call him at first, too scared to actually hear his voice over the phone, but a quick cock of a gun made me scramble to accept the phone from one of the guy to call Lorenzo at once, putting it to loud speaker as ordered.
“H- hello?” I whispered tentatively minutes after the call got answered on the second ring and neither of us had breathed out a word.
“Mia.” Was all Lorenzo said. It wasn’t a question, it was a statement and it made my stomach tighten even more.
Feeling unsure of how to continue, I glanced up at the guys who shook the gun in a silent reminder, which prompted me into spilling out that I had been abducted some time ago and that I’m being threatened to be killed if he doesn’t show up.
Even as I said those words, I knew Lorenzo wasn’t going to show up. Lorenzo doesn’t care enough about his plan to use me in his revenge plot to actually show up, and I was proven right when Lorenzo only snorted.
Probably feeling fed up, one of the guy whisked the phone from my grip. “This isn’t a joke, be here in thirty minutes or say goodbye to your girl.”
I almost laughed at the realization that I was currently being referred to as Lorenzo’s girl. Did these people think Lorenzo and I actually have some sort of thing to begin with?
How dumb of them.
“Your girl is dead meat if you don’t show up, so think twice before making a decision.” The man growled into the phone and I felt myself flinching as I tried to crawl into myself in that moment.
Lorenzo still didn’t respond, which made all the guys exchange glances through themselves, meanwhile, it felt like I was about to puke once again. I know nothing’s going to come forth because I haven’t had a thing to eat since yesterday’s afternoon.
“We’ll be sending you the address right now, do make sure to be here on time.” The man continued after a few seconds and for a moment, I allowed myself to entertain the thought that Lorenzo would actually decide to show up to come rescue me. A part of my mind was quick to remind me that there’s no point in that happening since he planned on killing me today anyway.
But then when Lorenzo finally spoke, his words were so cold, it shattered whatever was remaining of my already broken heart.
“Don’t bother, cause I won’t be showing up.”
I had been standing before, but as soon as those words poured through the speakers of the phone, I felt my legs wobble dangerously and in order not to hurt myself, I slid down the unpainted wall behind me while it felt like the last parts of my world had just collapsed around my feet at this very moment.
“Did the fucker just hang up on us right now?” The man growled out, forcing me to glance up at them, watching as they exchanged looks once again.
“Are you certain it’s her?” One of the guys asked and then they were all staring at me for a few moments before staring at themselves once again.
“Yeah, I am. It’s definitely her.” One of the guys muttered and then they mumbled quietly between themselves for a few moments.
“Send the text to him regardless of what he said, I believe he’d still show up.” One of them suggested and there was a little back and forth before the one who was still with the phone began to speak.
“I’m not sure he’s actually going to show up,” He muttered as he tossed the phone to one of the guys. “But, still send the text to him.” He continued, and then he pinned me with a narrowed look.
“Do you think he’s going to show up?” He demanded and I bit on my bottom lip before slowly shaking my head in response, because I didn’t want to tell a lie only for it to not end up being the truth.
“Why the hell not? Isn’t he your boyfriend?” He demanded and I flinched before shaking my head in response, a dreaded feeling engulfing me once again.
They all exchanged looks once again, and then one of them spoke. “She’s definitely his woman, I’ve seen her hanging off his arms on multiple occasions, and she has even appeared in the press because of that, so she’s probably lying right now to protect him.”
A disbelieved huff slipped past my mouth as the words sank into my head, I couldn’t believe my ears right now, couldn’t believe how this man had ended up on this theory of me trying to protect Lorenzo right now.
“He’s definitely going to come, we just have to wait.” One of them declared, and that was the end. They all gave me one last look before leaning on the other side of the wall and talking amongst themselves while watching me at the same time.
I hugged my knees to my chest, knowing that I might die tonight since Lorenzo is definitely not coming. These guys seem like they’re planning on doing something dangerous to Lorenzo, and I had no idea why that thought left an extremely bitter feeling in my throat. I knew I shouldn’t care since Lorenzo had literally planned on killing me today, but I just couldn’t help those worried thoughts from filling my head at this very moment.
I knew Lorenzo was a menace and that no sane person should actually go up against him, but these people were five and if Lorenzo were to show up alone – with his left arm still healing, he’d most likely not stand a chance against these guys, and that felt a worried peng in my throat that I didn’t even realize when I began to hope he doesn’t show up.
“There he is!”
The break of the silence was so abrupt, it made me flinch as my heart literally flew into my throat on realizing that the guys were currently referring to someone who had just pulled up in a motorcycle.
A motorcycle.
“I told you he was going to show up, didn’t I?” One of them called out and if I didn’t know better, I’d say it was from excitement. Meanwhile, my stomach was so knotted up, I couldn’t breathe properly.
With my mouth hanging open, I watched as the guy on the motorcycle took off his helmet and shook his head a little, revealing that it was indeed Lorenzo.
Lorenzo actually came for me.
