Henson then got up and left his study
to return to his room. He noticed Wendy reading a book on the covers with her legs crossed, one leg swaying casually on the other.
She was really the cutest woman he’d ever met.
Compared to all the other women who spent a truckload of money to make themselves look presentable in front of him, he much preferred Wendy’s casual outlook and attitude instead.
Even after hearing sounds shuffling behind her, this wasn’t enough to make her look back.
He eventually walked over to her and announced, “I have something to tell you, Wendy,”
Her eyes were still fixed on a page in her book as she said, “I can’t hear you,”
He sat down on the bed and suddenly got serious. “Stop being mad and get up already. I assure you you’ll be very interested in what I’m about to tell you,” he said.
“If you want me to listen, you’ll have to reimburse me for the drink I spent on your sister-in-law first. If not, the only thing swirling in my mind would be the $400 I wasted on her today,” she lamented.
She finally regretted it now. A poor peasant like her shouldn’t spend that kind of money willy-nilly in the heat of the moment like that.
“You-” he stopped as he glared at her. He then got up, rummaged in his wallet and handed her a card. “This card has no credit limit to it. You’re free to spend as much as you want with it,” he huffed.
“I don’t want it. I want my $400,” she insisted.
“Why are you being so stubborn right now? This is the first time someone’s refused the money I gave them,” he ranted.
“I just don’t want it. I shouldn’t be receiving this in the first place,” she huffed.
He gave in and finally handed her $400.
She sat up immediately after taking the bills. After crossing her legs together, she pursed her lips and gave him a big grin. “You may speak now. What was it you wanted to tell me?” she asked.
“Hurry up and get out of bed to pack your things. We’re heading back to Big City,” he declared.
She could only stare at him in response. “Huh, so he finally found me to be an eyesore,” she thought to herself as
she heeded his wishes. She had no qualms with that at all as she didn’t plan on staying there anyways.
While packing her things, she felt as if she was about to explode into rage.
After she finished, she pulled up her suitcase and said as-a-matter-of-factly, “I’m already done packing, so please leave the room first. I’ll leave after I finish changing,”
He frowned in response. “Why’d you only pack your own stuff? What about me? Do you really wish to see me naked everyday?” he teased.
“Why should I pack your stuff too?” she gasped, confused.
“Who told you you’ll be the only one who’ll return to Big City? I’m going with you,” he chuckled.
“How come you’re tagging along?” she finally asked after a long pause, her feet frozen to the ground.
“If I don’t, what would be the point of you going there?” he asked back.
“How would I know? Didn’t you plan to shoo me away after finding me an eyesore around here?” she huffed.
He tried his best not to burst out laughing after hearing this. “Wait, so the reason why you got angry just now was because you thought I was going to kick you out?”
“Who says I’m angry? I’m beyond ecstatic because I can finally return to my little nest,” she replied sarcastically.
“You know that place belongs to me, right?” he asked.
“But I was the one who signed the contract and paid the rent,” she huffed as she glared at him unapologetically.
He raised his eyebrows at that. “Fine, then I’ll let you pay the rent once I’m there. Come on, help me pack up some of my stuff,” he chuckled.
She pouted as she stared at him. “What are you scheming anyways? Why do you suddenly want to pay Big City a visit? If Howell’s staying in his dorm on campus while you’re in Big City, won’t that make Daisy the only one staying here? Are you trying to make her think that you’re deliberately avoiding her?” she asked.
“That’s the plan, you see. She’s a married woman and yet she’s living apart from her husband, so how is it appropriate that she’s staying here? Besides, someone got jealous from that, so that indirectly pained me too. This is why I made the decision to live separately, so that we can all live more comfortably. I feel it’d be better if I singled out the jealous person so that we can both have some quality time living together,” he explained.
“Would it kill you not to tease me every day?” she spat and glared at him menacingly.
He then pinched the tip of her nose as he flashed her a mischievous grin. “I told you, I’m as happy as a clam whenever you get jealous like this,” he teased.
“Henson. Charles,” she called out his name sternly.
“Alright, alright, I’ll shut up now. Run along and help me pack my things now,” he urged and
patted her on the shoulder. “I’ll be fine with whatever you decide to pack for me, by the way. Then again, if you don’t pack anything, you have no right to blame me if I start walking around your house in my birthday suit,” he joked.
She really didn’t know how to reply to that. “And you’re fine with that?” she said incredulously.
“What’s not to be fine about it? I don’t mind YOU seeing me naked, so what is it that YOU’RE worried about?” he asked.
“What I meant to ask was if it’s okay, leaving Daisy all alone here,” she scoffed.
“Do you want to go back or not?” he asked back.
“I’ve always wanted to. I’ve longed for it for a long time now,” she said.
“Then stop wasting time and get packing,” he snickered.
She rolled her eyes at him. He was blatantly biting the hand of his master right now. The man just wouldn’t see how nice she was to him.
So what if she packs his things? She wasn’t about to be the one who would be sad to see him leave. She herself couldn’t care less if he left.
When noontime came, the two of them strode downstairs.
“Have someone carry the suitcases Wendy prepared upstairs down to the car and inform Baron to drive us to Big City later,” he instructed Donald the butler.
Donald looked concerned as he replied, “Are you planning to live with Miss Evans in Big City, sir?”
“What? Anything else that needs my attention?” he snapped.
“What about Madam Daisy…” Donald started.
“Just tell her the truth,” Henson ordered.
Only then did Donald go back to his normal way of speaking. “Understood, sir,” he said.
After they arrived at Big City in Baron’s car,
Henson then took the car keys over from him and ordered him to go back to the villa by himself.
She felt thrilled to finally be able to return to the place she hadn’t been back to in ages.
Since she was in a good mood, she instructed him to carry her mattress out to the balcony to air in the sun.
“You must be the only person in this world who’s shameless enough to order me around to do crude labour,” he grumbled.
“What ‘crude labour’? What right do you have to complain about doing something as menial as this as a grown *ss man?” she scolded
then lifted the mop in her hands. “Now, THIS is crude labour,” she huffed.
“Surely you haven’t forgotten who I am,” he said incredulously.
She narrowed her eyes and shrugged at that. “Didn’t you tell me that you’re totally different in front of me compared to other people? Why can’t I order you around since that’s the case?” she giggled
and pointed in the direction of the kitchen. “Go fetch me a cup of water while you’re at it. I want it warm,” she ordered.
He glanced at her sideways afterwards, but still obliged in the end.
While he looked at him disappearing into the distance, she couldn’t help but snicker.
She still preferred living like this.
The weekend ended uneventfully to his surprise, as he received no calls from Daisy ‘denouncing him of his crimes’.
When Monday morning came, Wendy and Linda were called into the President’s office.
Apparently, the university board had a discussion regarding the incident where the two of them braved their lives to rescue the girl last Friday, and had decided to reward the both of them $1000 each for their valiant efforts.
Howell had also been chosen to receive the reward, but since he was at a basketball game, the university handed the money over to Wendy for him instead, as she was the assistant professor of the faculty.
When noon came, Linda asked Wendy if she wanted to go out for a meal with her so that she could ‘alleviate her shock from the events that transpired on Friday’.
Wendy naturally agreed to go.
The two of them eventually decided to go for hotpot. After lunch, Wendy spotted a women’s clothing store not far away when she stepped out of the restaurant.
This caused her mind to wander to the four sets of clothes Daisy bought that day and that made her pout. With pursed lips, she hollered to Linda who’d already started walking ahead of her, “You can head back first, Linda. I have a few things I need to buy,”
“You need me to go with you?” Lina offered.
“No, thanks. I’ll be back in a bit,” Wendy declined.
She later hailed a cab to the city and brought herself to a men’s clothing store.
