Henson looked over to Wendy and immediately started ruffling her hair in an affectionate manner. “Daww, isn’t my darling kitty cat just the most considerate person in the world?”
Daisy’s expression stiffened in an instant.
Wendy’s face flushed crimson in embarrassment. How could he flirt so shamelessly like that knowing there’s people around?
His words could give anyone second-hand embarrassment.
“I didn’t buy them. How can I even afford such expensive clothes? It’s obvious that Daisy bought them for you,” she retorted.
“You were the one who picked all of them out though, so I suppose I can still say that you bought them for him. What do you say, Henson?” Daisy quickly added.
He then turned to look at her with a loving gaze in his eyes. “Every penny that goes out of this family comes from me, so as long as you were the one who picked them out for me, I’ll take it that you bought them for me,” he gushed.
When she saw how ecstatic he was, she didn’t feel like being a wet blanket. But the thought of him wearing the clothes another woman bought for him in her name was enough to make her super upset again.
“I didn’t pick any of them out for you. I never once thought of buying any clothes for you when we went shopping just now. Daisy bought all of them for you, so I’m not the person you should be thanking,” she replied annoyedly.
Daisy lowered her sad gaze after hearing that. “Are you angry at me, Wendy? I’m so sorry. I just wanted to help you and Henson out, so I didn’t expect that my gesture would upset you so much,” she sulked.
Her reply only made Wendy even more annnoyed at her. She forgot how sensitive this woman could be. “I’m not angry at you, Daisy, it’s just that I feel that I shouldn’t take credit for the things I didn’t do. You were the one who bought them, so how can I take all the credit for that?” she asked.
Daisy nodded in response. “I fully admit that is was my fault, I just thought that anyone’s boyfriend would be really happy if their girlfriend gifted them something, which was why I took the first step to help you,” she explained.
“I understand where you’re coming from, but I feel that the gift should at least come from their own girlfriend, no? Since you were the one who picked the clothes out, you can’t say that it came from me, right?” Wendy sighed.
Daisy could only nod profusely at her and later gazed at Henson with a guilty expression on her face. “Wendy’s right and I’m so sorry that I killed the mood. Please carry on with your conversation. I feel tired, so I’ll retire to my chambers for the rest of the evening now,” she muttered.
She then spun around and walked away by herself with her head lowered.
Wendy frowned. “How strange,” she thought. She only said the truth, so why did Daisy leave with her head down as if she did something wrong?
He merely stared at her and didn’t say anything for a long while.
She swept her gaze on him and snapped, “What is it you wanna tell me, that I pissed Daisy off? That you’re disappointed in me?”
“All I want to know is why you’re in such a bad mood,” he said.
She averted her gaze and said, “I wasn’t the one who picked out the outfits for you and I don’t see any point in lying about it,”
“I feel her heart’s in the right place though. She just wanted us to get closer to one another, no?” he said.
She exhaled and started explaining. “Would you still think that my heart’s in the right place if I told you not to look at me anymore because it’s for your own good? I know full well how she feels about you, you know. How is this considered ‘helping us’ when she was the one who bought you clothes and insisted that you wear them in my name? It’s obvious that she’s out to steal my man and she wants me to be her accomplice in all of this,” she ranted
and shot him a razor-sharp glare. She was definitely pissed off.
He finally understood what she was so angry about and chuckled, “I get it now, you’re jealous, aren’t you? I like to see you being all jealous too, but still, you didn’t have to say it like that. You know she can’t snatch me away so easily,”
“What does this have to do with me being jealous?” she huffed. “Not everything has to do with me being jealous,”
“Then, why don’t you want me wearing clothes other women buy for me?” he asked.
She then pointed to the clothes on the bed. “Your clothes are right there. Wear them however you like, no one’s stopping you,” she scoffed.
He raised an eyebrow and started walking to the bedside.
When she saw him pick up the clothes, she clenched her fists tight and continued glaring at him.
“This b*stard actually had the balls to try on those clothes in front of her,” she thought.
But instead of trying them on, he brought them to the nearest trashcan and dumped all of them inside.
This caused her to be stunned.
He then spun around and walked back to her. “I’ll never wear the clothes other women buy for me. I’ll only wear the clothes YOU buy for me,” he said.
She gulped and looked away. “Who’d want to buy clothes for you anyways,” she snorted.
He then bent down to whisper into her ear, “Oh, I get it now. The reason why you won’t let me wear them is because you like seeing me naked,” he teased.
She immediately lifted her hand to slap his arm hard.
He couldn’t contain his laughter anymore. “Are you trying to kill your husband?” he teased.
“I’d have to take a bullet to my head if I actually killed you. I just want you to shut up so that you stop talking sh*t,” she snapped as she glared at him. She suddenly felt like a huge weight had been lifted off her shoulders because of him.
He inched his face closer to hers and eventually pointed to his lips. “Come, then. I’m sure you know the best way to do it is to seal my mouth shut with yours,” he teased.
She was dumbfounded by his display. “If everyone else can see you right now, Henson, I’m sure their perception of you as an overbearing CEO will be shattered in an instant,” she scoffed.
“Which is why I’ll never let anyone other than you see this side of me so that I can maintain my perfect image. I assure you, this side of me is yours and yours alone, Wendy,” he said.
That put a smile on her face. ‘Her’s and her’s alone’, huh?
Then again, who could possibly verify his words? Who’d know if a second Wendy appeared in his life? Or maybe even a third?
“Was my tone just now… a bit too harsh?” she asked and lifted her head to look at him. “She seemed a bit sad when she left,”
“Huh, how come you’re more worried about her feelings than mine? I’m jelly,” he pouted.
“Why are you being jealous for me now?” she asked with a frown.
“Can’t I be unhappy when you’re allowed to be jealous? What’s with your double standards, Wendy?” he huffed.
“Forget it. Our discussion ends here,” she huffed back. She knew he’d always get his way eventually.
She later got up from the windowsill and instructed, “Let’s head downstairs for dinner. I’ll say sorry to Daisy by then,”
“She’s not having dinner here tonight. I had Donald arrange for her to have her own personal chef, so she and Howell will be dining alone,” he said.
“And why’s that? Didn’t the two of you have a nice time together in the morning?” she sneered, still upset.
Her tone was still seething with jealousy. “Is she implying that I can’t meet up with Daisy whenever she’s around?” he thought
and looked at her all confused. “Who told you I had breakfast with Daisy this morning?” he asked.
“Does it matter who told me? You shouldn’t have let the news get out in the first place,” she huffed.
“Tell me, who told you that?” he repeated.
She said: “Daisy told me herself,” she said with her arms crossed over her chest.
This made him fall silent for a moment.
What was Daisy’s game? Why was she spouting all these lies?
His expression became chilly in an instant. He hated women who were scheming the most. Daisy knew that, so why did she still lie to Wendy?
His expression made her scratch her forehead. Was it wrong of her to bring up the matter in the first place? She felt that she’d blown the matter out of proportions in a way too.
With a pout, she marched towards the door and huffed, “I’m hungry, let’s head downstairs for dinner,”
