Chapter 200 Deeply Ingrained Habits

Book:Mr. Charles's Hidden Wife Published:2024-5-1

When Henson descended the stairs in the morning,
Donald asked him when he would like to have his breakfast, to which
he replied, “Wendy had a late night yesterday, so no need to wake her up so early. I’ll wait until she wakes up before having breakfast together with her,”
Then, he went to the living room to watch the stock market channel on the TV.
Soon after, Daisy came and requested for Master Henson to have breakfast with her.
Fully knowing that his master hadn’t received any calls, he got up and told Daisy that he did and had to rush over to his company to settle a few matters. He promptly left home afterwards.
The two of them didn’t even see each other for long…
Wendy merely pursed her lips and smiled at that. “It’s not like I’m looking for him or anything,” she said.
“Wendy, we’re both women, so I understand how much you want to gaze into the eyes of the man you love the moment you wake up. That’s just a normal feeling to have, so no need to feel shy over it,” Daisy giggled.
Wendy’s face flushed pink and she said nothing to that.
“That’s right, I feel like going shopping today, so can you accompany me there? I don’t think I can manage shopping by myself, so I’ll need to ask for your assistance,” Daisy said again.
“Sure,” Wendy obliged.
After finishing her breakfast, she went upstairs to her room to get changed,
while Daisy stood up from her seat to face Donald when the servants were clearing the table.
After noticing that she was staring at him, he asked if she had any orders for him.
“Donald, are Wendy and Henson… actually a couple right now?” she asked in hesitation.
Not understanding her intentions, he merely answered her question frankly. “Yes, madam,”
“Don’t you find it strange though? I assumed Wendy would be jealous after I told her that Henson had breakfast with me, but I didn’t expect her to be fine with it,” she lamented.
Donald finally understood her true intentions now. It appeared that the reason she lied was because she wanted to get a rise out of Miss Evans.
“I don’t suppose she has any reason to feel angry over her boyfriend having breakfast with the sister-in-law of the family?” he suggested.
“However… it does seem that she knows about my past with Henson,” she said.
He fell silent at that. He knew that he was in no position to express his opinions in these kinds of situations.
Daisy eventually gestured to him to leave with her hands. “Ugh, just forget it. I shouldn’t have butted my head into Henson’s affairs in the first place. Promise me, Donald, that whatever I told you today would be kept a secret from Henson. I’m just afraid that he’ll feel upset if he found out about how Wendy doesn’t seem to care too deeply about his conduct today,” she instructed.
“Understood, Madam.” he said.
Having worked in the Charles family for so long, the most important rule of conduct was to swear to keep his boss’s private affairs a secret.
Daisy eventually returned to her own apartment to get changed.
The both of them had agreed to set off by 9:30 am,
and by 9:20 am, the ever punctual Wendy was already waiting for her in the car.
It was only until ten minutes later than their scheduled time of departure that Daisy had finally arrived.
Upon noticing that Wendy was already seated inside the car when she opened the car door, Daisy gasped. “I didn’t think you were already here, Wendy. I was under the assumption that you weren’t ready yet,” she said.
“I’m never late when it comes to meeting people. For meetings that require me to travel some distance, I’d always leave an hour earlier in fear of getting caught in any traffic jams. Thus, it’d be physically impossible for me to not be punctual for our meeting today,” Wendy replied flatly.
Whenever she agreed to meet Judy back then, Judy would always show up late and yet she wouldn’t get angry at her,
but for some unknown reason today, she got pissed off at Daisy for doing the same.
It was her who scheduled the meeting, and yet she still had the audacity to arrive late, even when the point of meeting was in front of her own building. She would’ve shrugged it off if she’d actually left a minute earlier, but ten minutes was too much.
This gave her the impression that Daisy didn’t respect her, and
since that was the case, she had no reason not to scold her for her actions.
After hearing what she’d said, Daisy suddenly put on a guilty face. “Why is it that I sense that you’re… mad at me, Wendy? I really didn’t mean to be late. I actually planned to leave early but I got stopped at the entrance by a call from… you-know-who. So, that was the reason I was late, because I’d gotten into another squabble with him over the phone. Please believe me when I say that I didn’t do it on purpose,” she pleaded.
Wendy looked at her and finally realised that she was the one who was mistaken all along.
“I only said that in response to what you said though, Daisy, since you said that you assumed I hadn’t arrived on time as well,” she reasoned.
Daisy pursed her lips and gave a giggle at that. “Then, I take it that you’re not mad at me? Great! I was the one who arranged to meet you at this time, and yet you’re the one who had to wait for me in the end, to which I sincerely apologise for. I’ll admit that I made a grave mistake if I angered you in any way because of this, I daren’t do anything to hurt Henson’s pride and joy,” she said.
“No need to put it like that,” Wendy muttered sheepishly.
Daisy then turned around to instruct Baron to start their journey.
He naturally obliged.
On the way there, Wendy had turned her head to look at the view outside the window.
It felt really strange to be sharing the same car as Daisy right now.
It wasn’t like Daisy had offended her or anything too, so why was it that she was in a bad mood now?
Could it be… that she was jealous?
She shook her head and kept telling herself that she shouldn’t be jealous. Plus, Henson had already reassured her that he only saw her as his sister-in-law.
But… that was the thing. If he truly treated her as his sister-in-law, then why would he leave her this morning for her to have breakfast with her by herself when he’d usually stay by her side to have breakfast with her?
The mere thought of it made her pout in displeasure.
When they reached the mall, Daisy led Wendy to a high-end boutique store to scour the latest styles and arrivals.
The sales praised Daisy non-stop for every outfit she changed into.
After trying on a few outfits, she said to Wendy giddily, “You try some on too, Wendy! My treat,”
Wendy motioned with her hands to decline her offer. “You go ahead, Daisy. I won’t be buying anything today,” she replied.
“It’s all on Henson’s card, by the way, so you don’t have to hold back,” Daisy insisted.
“There’s really no need for that.” Wendy declined once more while squinting her eyes.
Daisy stopped urging her after that. After trying on everything she liked, she finally pointed to an overcoat which had a tag attached to it that was hanging by the shop window. “Can I try this on?” she asked one of the employees to which
one of them replied apologetically, “I’m afraid you can’t, Miss Hunt. There’s only one of this in the entire country and it’s already been sold off,”
Daisy raised her eyebrows at that. “I can pay you a higher price for it,” she said.
“If it were a different piece, I’d help you brainstorm ideas to obtain it too, but unfortunately this piece in particular had been specifically sold off to Mr. Charles yesterday, so I’m afraid there’s not much I can do for you now,” they apologised.
“Mr. Charles bought it himself? Henson Charles?” she gasped.
“Yes, ma’am,” they replied.
She fell silent for a moment before turning to Wendy with a smile on her face. “It appears that he’s prepared a surprise for you, Wendy. I should forget about it then. It’d be rude of me to snatch away his token of love for you, after all,” she giggled.
But before Wendy could get a word in, Daisy had already gotten up from her seat and had instructed the employees in the store, “Wrap all of these up for me,”
It hadn’t even been half an hour later that she’d already spent 800 grand on less than ten sets of outfits.
The world of the uber rich still felt so surreal to Wendy.
She then tilted her head to stare at the long, olive-coloured overcoat hanging by the window which had seven figures attached to its price tag. This caused her to shake her head
and wonder if it was time to have a chat with Henson again.
She firmly believed that there wasn’t any need for him to spend money on things that he shouldn’t have
as she never once cared much for such material things in the first place.
When Daisy turned her head to see the expression Wendy had on her face while staring at the outfit, a smile crept up on her face and she giggled.
