Flynn ignored him and found a chair to sit on. Soon, Uriah walked in with three tired-looking family members and a dozen or so other people from their tribe. They had heard that some important guests had arrived at the house, and they were interested in testing their medical skills.
“Can you really diagnose someone’s illness just by looking at their face? I don’t think that’s reliable. Modern medicine requires blood tests, CT scans, and other examinations to determine an illness. How can traditional medicine be so powerful?” one person asked skeptically.
“Traditional medicine is indeed stronger than Modern medicine in certain areas, but I’ve never heard of anyone being able to diagnose an illness just by looking at someone’s face. Even the most famous traditional doctors still need to check the pulse thoroughly,” another person replied.
“Well, let’s treat it as a game for fun then! Some illnesses like hyperthyroidism or acromegaly can be diagnosed through facial features alone, but others are not so easy to identify, like these three people Uriah brought,” someone else chimed in.
As they chatted among themselves, Uriah led the three family members into the main hall and introduced them one by one to Roman, “Mr. Price, this is my uncle; this is my younger brother’s wife; this is my nephew.”
Roman nodded politely but could only make out generalities about each person based on their appearance. Perhaps the old man had heart or lung problems; maybe the woman had liver or kidney issues; and he suspected that the young man might have heart or bone problems, nothing specific enough for him to pinpoint any particular organ or disease.
Nathan observed them closely for less than ten minutes before feeling confident about his diagnosis. Flynn glanced briefly at them before returning his attention back to his phone without giving it much thought.
“Master, shall we begin?” Roman smiled at Flynn.
“What did Mr. Price say earlier? Master? This young man is Mr. Price’s master? That can’t be possible! He looks no more than twenty years old!” some of the Wong family exclaimed incredulously.
“I heard it too! Yes indeed he called him master! Oh my god! That young man must have incredible abilities!” others joined in with amazement written all over their faces as they looked towards Flynn not understanding how he could possibly become Roman’s master!
Nathan was annoyed when he heard what everyone was saying about Flynn being a master healer, “You’re all mistaken! This guy has only taught my madter some traditional remedies passed down from his ancestors, nothing special!”
“My master is not bound by formalities, he allows him to call him ‘master’ out of courtesy, but he’s not the kind of master you think he is.”
“His abilities are far inferior to my master’s, even I am better than him!”
“I’ll prove it to you today. After the competition, you will know that he is just a country doctor!”
As soon as these words were spoken, the Wong family members suddenly realized what was going on. The shock on their faces disappeared and was replaced with disdain.
“I knew it! How could someone so young compare to Mr. Price who has been studying medicine for his whole life? He’s just a quack doctor who knows a few remedies.”
“Mr. Price has reached such high levels and still maintains an attitude of seeking knowledge from others and being humble enough to ask questions. The fact that he calls this guy his master proves that Mr. Price’s character is pure without any flaws!”
“Yes, I agree! Mr. Price adheres to Confucianism in order to restrain himself; this shows his saintly mentality! As for that young man over there sitting like an emperor and ignoring everyone else… he clearly lacks manners! So what if he knows a few remedies? He thinks too highly of himself.”
Nathan’s introduction made Roman appear humble while Flynn seemed arrogant in comparison; the Wong family members instantly felt that Flynn lacked manners.
“Nathan! If you keep talking nonsense, I’ll sew your mouth shut!” After hearing everyone’s comments about him calling Clark “master”, Roman turned pale with anger before shouting at Nathan loudly then turning back towards the Wong family members, “You’ve all got it wrong. When I call Mr. Clark ‘master’, it comes from my heart! It’s definitely not just out of politeness or courtesy alone! And Mr. Clark isn’t as bad as you guys say. He has great skills!”
The Wong family members were stunned after hearing this revelation and suddenly began praising Roman with reverence.
“What is dignity? What is magnanimity? This is exactly how Mr. Price behaves now, lowering himself down in order learn from a country doctor.”
“We attacked this young man earlier but yet here we have Mr. Price defending him, truly too modest!”
“Mr. Price only cares about medical ethics and seeks famous doctors around the world in order help those suffering from illness across society. Even calling someone else ‘Master’ despite knowing only some remedies shows no arrogance whatsoever; this makes him our true saint!”
“Look at him! He hasn’t even lifted his eyebrows yet, so annoying! You only know a few remedies, in terms of medical knowledge, you’re not even one percent of Mr. Price. What’s with the arrogance? Mr. Price calls you master and you dare to answer back, shameless!”
The crowd’s anger was ignited and they thought Flynn was too ignorant.
The Wong family always welcomed Roman with open arms, but Flynn had been showing a cold and arrogant attitude all along which made them feel very uncomfortable and their impression of Flynn worsened.
Nathan saw everyone getting emotional and couldn’t help but boast, “Don’t worry everyone, I’ll make him feel ashamed and leave here embarrassed!”
“No one can be my master’s master!”
“Yes! Mr. Fletcher, we support you! You must make him realize his own worthlessness, then he’ll leave humiliated. How can a country doctor take advantage of Mr. Price?”
“This person is too arrogant and indeed should be taught a lesson; how could he bear the title ‘Mr. Price’s Master’ when he doesn’t have any skills?”
“Mr. Price is being polite to him but that guy actually believes it! He really has no shame!”
The Wong family were indignant on behalf of Roman.
Roman wanted to explain but Flynn waved his hand then picked up pen and paper writing, “Let’s begin.”
“If you don’t know how to do it, just submit an empty paper instead; nobody will laugh at you,” Nathan said confidently while looking at the three patients with a smirk on his face as he quickly wrote down answers on paper.
Soon enough, Nathan finished writing everything down confidently while everyone watched in awe thinking that he had everything under control, “Mr. Fletcher writes so fast like victory is already in sight; looks like he has great confidence.”
“Yes indeed, Mr. Fletcher does have some skills while that guy over there isn’t anything special; from start till end all he did was glance at the patients once before burying himself into writing something on paper again… I guess maybe it’s an apology letter admitting defeat.”
“Hmm.. it could also be cheating. Though cheating isn’t scary if done right, however if done wrong, then it would be embarrassing!”
Flynn didn’t even look up or give Nathan any attention as he buried himself into writing…
