Rose looked at the jade bracelet that had been crushed into powder, her face darkening.
Flynn narrowed his eyes slightly.
Braiden spoke up, his voice low, “Mr. Cox, this is the Pearce family’s banquet. Don’t cause trouble here! You’ll have plenty of opportunities in the future.”
“Ms. Sharp, I’ve seen this bracelet before. It’s worth over 30 thousand dollars. How about I give you 50 thousand and call it even?”
Afraid that Ismael would lose his temper and cause a scene, Braiden quickly wrote a check for 50 thousand dollars and threw it in front of Rose.
“I didn’t mean to break it! It just crumbled in my hand!” Ismael shrugged innocently.
“Sorry Ms. Sharp, looks like you won’t be able to give any gifts today.”
“Why don’t we meet somewhere else and talk about this?” Ismael continued to taunt Flynn but received no response from him.
“He’s all bark and no bite,” Ismael sneered at Flynn.
“When push comes to shove he’ll back down! If your people are all like him then I can take on ten of them!”
“But let’s not forget who the real star is tonight – Mr. Swanson.”
“He has prepared a gift for Callie that will surely win her heart.”
“And yet she still won’t look twice at your gifts,” Ismael sneered, “Hurry up and get this dog out of here, don’t embarrass yourself any further!”
Rose ignored Ismael and turned to Braiden, saying, “Mr. Swanson, you don’t like Virginia anymore? Scum deserves scum, don’t harm Miss Pearce!”
“Virginia is nothing,” Ismael sneered.
“All your women are cheap trash only fit for one night stands with Swanson – hardly suitable for marriage material.”
Rose laughed coldly before turning to Flynn, “You’re right – there really is a stench coming from here! We have too many company matters to attend to. Let’s go.”
Flynn stopped her with a calm voice, “Wait awhile longer. The Pearce family could be useful connections for you in the future.”
After helping the Sharp family regain their business, he knew he couldn’t stay by Rose’s side forever especially since there were other things he needed to do.
Especially considering how much power was hidden behind his mother – Flynn had an inkling more clues would surface soon enough.
The future was uncertain so they couldn’t afford not having connections.
Braiden and Ismael almost burst out laughing when they heard what Flynn said.
“Rose doesn’t even have a gift, how can she meet them empty-handed?” Braiden sneered.
Ismael also laughed coldly, “The Pearce family is indeed a big mountain, but Ms. Sharp cannot climb it.”
“With or without a gift, it’s still the same!”
“Well… in that case, I just broke the jade bracelet and saved Ms. Sharp some money!”
Flynn nodded and said, “You guys did save Ms. Sharp some money.”
“That’s also why you crushed Rose’s bracelet, Braiden compensated, and I didn’t break your arm!”
“Because even if Rose gave Callie a piece of paper, she would like it. There’s no need to spend money unnecessarily,” Flynn explained.
The guests around them were stunned by his words.
“Who is this guy? Miss Pearce just recovered from her illness and he actually wants Rose to give her a blank piece of paper as a gift? And he wants to break Mr. Cox’s arm?”
“The Pearce family holds real power in Niarak and the city government has to give them face. How dare this idiot make fun of Miss Pearce? And argue with Mr. Swanson?”
“This guy is an idiot! It’s one thing for him to come here dressed casually but making fun of Miss Pearce here too? He must be suicidal!”
Everyone was shocked by Flynn’s outrageous words and they all thought he was not very bright.
Braiden chuckled at Rose and said, “Do you see that even your own people are making fun of you? Telling you to give someone a blank piece of paper as a gift! What are you struggling for?”
“If giving Callie a blank piece of paper will make her happy, then why don’t you try giving it yourself, Flynn?”
“If the Pearce family doesn’t beat you out with sticks, then I’ll write my name backwards!”
Ismael mocked him too, “Mr. Swanson, he relies on favoritism because he thinks helping Rose fight several times makes him an important minister who can speak recklessly but really, he’s just another dog!”
“You’re just protecting your master like any other dog does, so there are plenty more where you came from!”
After hearing Flynn’s words, Rose couldn’t help but frown.
She had no foundation now since everyone had turned against her; she had lost all the prestige that the Sharp Group once held during its peak days. Now she was nothing more than common folk again!
Even if she gave away 30 thousand dollars worth jade bracelets as gifts the Pearce family wouldn’t care much about it anyway!
Flynn saying that Callie would be happy with only receiving one sheet of white paper made this joke go too far!
However, in all the time she had known Flynn, he had never made a joke like this before.
At that moment, Scarlet and Madeline heard the laughter coming from their direction and walked over to see what was going on.
After listening to everyone’s discussion and figuring out what was happening, Madeline’s face changed.
Ignoring Braiden’s question for a moment, Flynn thought for a bit before saying while folding paper, “It might be too much to just give her a piece of paper. How about I fold something and give it to her instead?”
Braiden looked confused as he coldly asked, “Are you really going to do that?”
Ismael laughed loudly as he announced to everyone, “Listen up! This guy is one of Rose’s men.”
“You all heard him say he’ll fold something and give it as a gift. Let this be proof!”
“If he doesn’t follow through with his promise later on, then we’ll know that he was just messing with us. After the party is over, we’ll break his legs!” Ismael said jokingly while enjoying the spectacle.
If Flynn gave Callie something folded from paper instead of an expensive gift, then wouldn’t that be slapping the Pearce family in the face? He didn’t even need to do anything himself because they would definitely break his legs!
“Holy crap! This guy isn’t joking around – he means business! Everyone else is giving gifts worth hundreds of thousands but this guy picks up some random piece of paper off the ground and folds it into something? Does he want the Pearce family after him or what?”
“Callie is Elis’ beloved granddaughter who has been sick these past few years. He loves her very much so today they spent big money renting Fish Dragon Villa for celebration purposes. And now this guy comes along causing trouble…”
“You little punk – now isn’t the time for you show off your attitude. I advise you stop right here otherwise you’re going embarrass yourself in front of Mr. Swanson. If you actually go through with giving Callie your folded gift, then not only will you leave Fish Dragon Villa crawling on your hands and knees but Rose will also suffer because of your actions!”
The nearby guests, seeing Flynn still acting independently and confidently, couldn’t help but become serious in their expressions.
Callie was loved by many people, so the Pearce family wouldn’t allow anything bad happen her way.
Flynn playing pranks during such an important day would definitely have consequences!
Scarlet couldn’t help but smile at everything she saw unfold before shaking her head.
This guy always found ways make things interesting – if she gave him good attention, maybe then perhaps there could’ve been some explanation given?
But if someone confronted him directly, then whatever came out from his mouth or actions taken would make anyone angry!
Madeline couldn’t take anymore watching everything unfold so she walked forward quickly grabbing onto Flynn’s arm while speaking sternly, “What are you doing? Can’t you see Mr. Swanson and Ms. Sharp are here too? Do you really need attention drawn towards yourself like this? Hurry up let’s go!”
“Other people find gifts worth tens of thousands of dollars too cheap, and you’re giving her a paper crane?”
“The Pearce family holds real power in Niarak. If you cause any trouble here, I can’t guarantee your safety!”
“I’m just delivering a gift for Ms. Sharp. How is that causing trouble?” Flynn didn’t pay attention to Madeline’s words and placed the folded paper crane on the table, satisfied.
“Hmm, not bad at all. We’ll deliver it later!”
