Dave got better, his mother pays the hospital bill and they leave the hospital together.
They stop at a small shop to buy some food stuff first before the can go home.
They pay the cab driver and go into the small shop to buy what they need. Dave is standing at the side of the entrance while his mother does the buying.
Dave POV
I waited for my mother at the side of the entrance to the shop.
She moved about the shop, choosing what she wants.
“Suddenly my mother turns around and screams my name.
” Dave!” She screams.
I turned around to see what the matter was and I received the greatest shock of my life.
Luckily for me, I dodged it on time. Someone had attacked me from behind with a knife. My mother gasped.
I gave the person a hard punch which knocked him down.
“Dave! Dave! Are you okay!?” My mother asked.
“Of course I am mother.” I replied.
She hugs me in great relieve.
The owner if the shop had already called the cops and they arrived here. A cop took away the mask worn by the killer.
I was quite surprised that you actually remember the face even if we had only met once.
It was Henry, the guy that works for Mr Adams before I replaced him.
“You?” I asked
“Oh. So you still remember my face right?” Henry asked.
“I never did anything wrong to you. Why did you just try to kill me?” I asked.
“Shut up! What made you think you are Innocent of it all? You are just as bad as Mr Adams.” He replied.
“Explain that to me.” I said.
“That was the only job u had to sustain i and my parents and you took it away from me. I now have to blind a life if theft and it’s your fault!” Henry replied.
“I also needed a well paying job and I only have my mother. It was only after getting a job from Mr Adams that I was able to take care of my mother properly. As for you loosing your job, I had nothing to do with it. That was Mr Adams’ choice.” I said.
Henry didn’t say anything else and was taken away by the cops.
I and mother went home and she prepared breakfast.
“Mother.” I said.
“Yes?” She answered.
“Do you think that Mr Adams is really a bad person?” I asked her.
“Mother?” I said again.
“Mother.” I repeated.
She snapped out of it.
“Are you even listening to me?” I asked.
“Huh? Yes. Of course I’m listening. Why would you ask that sort of a question?” She replied.
“It’s just that you seemed distracted that’s all.” I replied.
“Oh okay.” She said.
“So, what do you think?” I asked.
“About what?” She asked.
Okay. My mother was definitely distracted.
“About Mr Adams.” I replied.
“Why would I be thinking about him? Does it look like I’m interested in him?” She asked.
“No mother. Not that. I was asking I you think that Mr Adams is a bad person.” I said.
She paused for a minute before she finally said something.
“We are all humans and we all have our ups and downs. I don’t know if he is a bad person or not but we can’t judge him.” She said.
“Okay mother. Now I know better.” I said.
“I’d like to go you work today mother.” I added.
“What? Why?” She asked.
“I feel better now and I don’t think it’s right for me to miss any day at work. Even though I’m already late for work today.” I said.
“Okay son. You can go. But I still think you should take rest today as well.” She said.
“Thanks for giving me your permission mother.” I said.
“Okay.” She replied.
Authoress POV
Dave takes his bath and leaves for work. A cab drops him at the company and he enters. Dave looks around and sighs.
Another day of pain is what he expected. The image of Mr Adams insulting him still lingered in his mind.
Dave went straight to his desk and coincidentally, Mr Adams comes out of his office at that point. Mr Adams sees Dave and goes straight to him.
Dave POV
“Dave I thought you were sick.” Mr Adams said.
“Yes, I was but I’m better now.” I replied.
“Welcome back. I actually missed your presence here. It wasn’t really the same without you around.” He said.
Mr Adams missed my presence? Somebody pinch me. What could my mother have said that made him have a sudden change towards me?
“Thank you sir.” I replied simply.
“Want to join me for some coffee?” He asked.
How awkward. This is weird. It’s almost as if he has something bad planned for me. I can’t afford to take such a risk.
“No thank you sir. I’m okay.” I replied.
“Come on Dave, it will be just fun. Just you and I Dave.” He pleaded.
“It’s okay sir. But I already had a lot of coffee before coming here.” I replied.
“Well that’s too bad.” He said and left.
Maybe I’ve just gone crazy. I just pretend this conversation didn’t happen at all.
I continued to seat at my desk while waiting to hear Mr Adams’ next commands.
A lot of time passed by since Mr Adams came back into his office but still no errands for me to run.
I continued to wait and wait but still nothing.
This is unlike him today. Why hasn’t he called for me?
I looked at the clock and it was almost six. That means I’ve just been sitting here all day doing nothing.
I fell asleep on my desk unknowingly and then I felt a light tap on my shoulder. I lifted my head and I saw Mr Adams right in front of me.
“I’m so sorry sir. I fell asleep on duty. What do you need?” I asked.
“I don’t need any thing Dave. Everyone is going home already.” He replied.
“But why sir? What happened that made them leave?” I asked.
“Dave look at the clock.” He said and I turned to the clock.
“Oh… I’m so sorry sir. I just woke up from sleep and I got confused about what time it was.” I said.
“No problem Dave. It’s okay. Now hurry up so I can drop you home. Mr Charles won’t be available for you today.” Mr Adams said.
