Chapter twenty four

Book:Revenge of the Son In Law Published:2024-5-1

Charles POV
I just sat there on my desk doing some paper work when I saw Adams coming out of his office.
He doesn’t ever come out of his office unless he has an important meeting to attend somewhere.
Where could he be going? He doesn’t have any business meetings today.
I decided to just ignore it and continue what I was doing but then Adams cane back. I saw him looking at Dave and he seemed to have something planned against Dave.
I got worried for Dave but decided not to interfere with any of Mr Adams’ plan. The extra work he put on me just to be able to win a bet was enough punishment for me.
“Are you mad!? Couldn’t you see me coming?!” Adams yelled at Dave.
I didn’t see anything that maybe happened but the files that Mr Adams was carrying some minutes ago is now scattered all over the floor.
“I’m really sorry about that sir.” Dave said.
I’m sure that Dave had nothing to do with whatever just happened but he took the blame anyway.
“You are not only a street rat but you also just have to be such a clumsy oaf!” Mr Adams yelled again.
“Puck them up!” Mr Adams ordered.
Dave stood up from his desk and start to pick it up.
“I pick you and your useless mother from the gutters and this is how your poverty ridden ass could repay me?!” Mr Adams said.
Dave didn’t exchange words with Adams but picked everything up and gave them to Mr Adams.
“I’m really sorry sir.” Dave apologized in a weak voice that made it known that he was about to start crying.
Every body in the company just watched the whole thing happen in silence.
Once Mr Adams left then the gossip began.
“Oh my gosh. Dave is so ungrateful. I just can’t believe him.” A voice said.
“Yes. Mr Adams has helped him a lot. Even befriended him but of course he just had to mess things up” Another voice added.
“Just leave the poor boy be. If he didn’t come from a poor family maybe he wouldn’t be in this condition right now.” Another voice said.
“Just because Mr Adams bought him and his mother a house, he thinks he can rule over us.” Someone else said.
Dave bent his head over his desk and I could tell that he was crying silently.
I felt so bad. It was as if I could do something about it, just something that could prevent it from happening but I didn’t. This made me guilty as well because letting this happen even after seeing it coming is almost like I was indirectly supporting Adams.
Anyways I decided to pretend that this never happened and continued with my work.
Anna POV
What’s happening? Something doesn’t feel right. I was happy this morning but why the sudden change of mood?
This is unlike me. It feels like something bad has just begun or is approaching. I just can’t put my finger on it.
My Dave, I hope nothing happens to him. This feeling in me is happening only for this first time. I don’t feel good at all.
Adams POV
After shaming Dave I relaxed on my seat in my office. I have accomplished my goal for today.
I know you must be wondering how a very busy man like me could even find time for all these supposed nonsense.
Well, I don’t have any explanation for it either. I guess it’s just how my life is. I choose to do what I feel like doing. It’s my cup of tea and not anyone else’s.
I laughed and laughed a what I did to Dave before I could finally have the strength to continue what I was doing before I shifted my concentration to Dave. This is only the beginning. No one causes me to just loose a bet like that without getting punished for it.
Dave POV
I cried and cried with my head bent over my desk. I know where I came from. My life wasn’t like this at the beginning.
Why did you have to die and leave I and mother alone dad? How could you just leave? Didn’t you have I and my mother in your heart? Or even your mind? Why did you leave father?
I continued crying on my desk then I felt a light tap on my shoulder. I looked up and it was a girl. She looked around my age but I’m sure that I’m older than her.
“Stop crying.” She said.
“Why should I? What’s left for me in this world? I’m such a mess.” I said.
“You’re not a mess. It’s not your fault that all this happened to you. So stop crying, it’s really not a big deal.” She said.
“That’s easy for you to say. You’re not the one it happened to.” I replied.
“You’re right, it didn’t happen to me. But that doesn’t mean I can’t at least try to cheer you up.” She said.
I didn’t reply.
“What’s your name?” She asked.
“Dave.” I replied.
“Dave. That’s a nice name. I’m Kathryn.” She said and stretched her hand for a handshake.
“Nice to meet you.” I said and took her hand.
She took a hankie from her bag and wiped my face with it. I felt a sudden boost of joy. Just a bit. She had actually made my day. I smiled a bit and she smiled a lot which made us end up laughing at each other.
“I actually come here sometimes. My uncle works here and my mom sometimes, sends me here to give him food. He has ulcer.” Kathryn said.
“That’s too bad.” I said.
“Yeah. So what do you do here?” She asked.
“I’m actually Mr Adams’ errand boy.” I replied.
“For how long?” She asked.
“For some months now.” I replied.
“Wow. You’re the only one that has lasted that long in that position. Most of the others just gets fired in just one or two weeks.” She said.
“Thanks.” I replied.
“I didn’t pay you for the job of an errand boy just to sit around and talk with girls.” Mr Adams’ voice said from behind giving us a big surprise.
