“Hello. I would like to speak to Hilton if you don’t mind.” I said.
“Sorry but that’s not possible. You see, Hilton won’t be able to speak to you from now on.” The voice said.
It was then I recognized the voice to be that of Hilton’s father.
“How can this be sir? I asked you for Hilton’s number but you gave me yours instead.” I said.
“You will never be able to reach my son again. Now he can finally be successful without you disturbing his life. He has traveled abroad and you will never see him again.” Hilton’s dad said.
“But… What have I done to deserve this?” I asked.
He didn’t answer. He just cut the call.
I felt so shattered. Hilton is my best friend. How could his parents be against our friendship?
Hilton’s mom POV
“Do you have it with you?” I asked.
“Yes madam. I have it right here.” He replied.
“Where? Let me see.” I said and he gave it to me.
“Good job.” I added and handed him some money.
“Thank you madam.” He said and left.
It’s a good thing I prepared ahead. I knew my son would come up with another means to see Dave but I won’t let him.
I sent the driver to take him to the airport and also inform me if my son make a a move to get in touch with Dave.
My hunch was right because my driver just gave me my son’s number which was sent through him to give Dave.
I paid him well, he left and I tore the paper to shreds. I’m only looking out for my son’s future and I refuse to let anyone destroy it.
Adams POV
All these paper work to do today is really giving me a headache.
“Dave!” I called.
He walked in looking so sad.
“What’s wrong with you?” I asked him.
“Nothing sir.” He replied.
“Come here.” I said and he came closer.
“Sir down.” I added, gesturing to the seat at the other side of my table in front of me.
He moves the seat a bit so he could have enough space to seat.
Dave kept his stare on the floor this whole time.
“So, talk to me. What’s going on?” I asked.
“Nothing sir. I don’t want to talk about it.” He replied.
“Dave. Look at me. Just think of me as your friend. You know friends tell each other everything right?” I said.
“I… I won’t be able to see my best friend again. I have no way of contacting him and he is already gone.” He said.
“That doesn’t matter Dave. Cheer up. Best friends always meet at the end.” I said.
“It’s not that easy sir. We are childhood friends.” He replied.
“It is. Don’t worry. Your paths will cross one day. And everything will be alright?” I said.
“Alright sir.” He replied.
“Meanwhile, I have a surprise for you.” I said.
“What’s that?” He asked.
“I can’t tell you. It’s a surprise.” I replied.
“Okay sir.’ He said and smiled a bit.
” Get me the files from table GT6.” I said.
“Yes sir.” He replied and left.
I have such busy schedules. It’s a good thing I have someone like Charles to replace me sometimes.
I really don’t know what I was thinking accepting that bet from Johnson.
One thing’s for certain. I never loose a bet.
Dave brought the files I asked for and left.
I took out my phone and dialed the number of the woman I got it from this morning. Oh damn! I forgot to ask her name.
The number didn’t go. It just kept cutting immediately. What?! She must have blocked me. That woman is just so damn smart isn’t she. No worries, I’ll get her without stress.
Dave POV
I wonder what surprise is lying in wait for me. I really hope it puts me in a better mood because I’m feeling so bad right now. I gave Mr Adams the files and went back to my desk.
It’s now four ‘o’ clock and Mr Adams has been sending me about like crazy.
Mr Adams comes out of his office and turns to me.
“Get up let’s go.” He said.
I stood up from my seat and followed him where he wanted me to go.
He went outside the company and into his car. I just stood there looking. It wasn’t closing time yet after all.
“Well? Hop in.” He said.
“But sir, it’s not closing time yet.” I replied.
“Forget that. Charles will handle everything. Just come in let’s go. The surprise won’t move itself here.” He said.
I decided to just follow him into the car to wherever he wanted to go.
Mr Adams kept driving on and on till he finally stopped at a huge compound.
What’s going on? I don’t know this place so why am I here? Why did Mr Adams bring me to a place I don’t know? What sort of surprise is this?
Those were the only questions running through my mind. He came down from the car and I did the same.
Mr Adams brought out a pair of keys and opened the padlock which held the gate closed.
I watched him as he went inside after opening the gate. He suddenly stopped in his tracks.
“Aren’t you coming in?” He asked.
I hesitated at first but I went in anyway.
“Ha ha ha. Don’t worry I’m not kidnapping you.” He said and laughed again.
When I went in there was only one building inside but it was a house big enough for a family.
“Surprise!” He yelled.
“What? Where?” I asked.
“This is your new home.” He said.
I could swear my jaw just dropped open. I stood there staring at him. Not knowing what to say. I ran to him and hugged him tightly crying as I did.
“Thank you sir. You are such a blessing to I and my mother. Thank you.” I said.
“Don’t mention it Dave, it was worth it.” He replied.
“I’ll have to drop you off at your old house now. I’m pretty busy. Right now I have a meeting in five minutes. I’m giving you time off from your job.” He added.
“Okay sir. Thank you.” I replied and he dropped me home.
“I’ll be here tomorrow morning to pick up you and your mom be ready.” He said.
“Okay sir.” I replied and he drove off.
That’s when my mom finally came out.
