“Unchain me from my feet,” she said.
Hamish sneered, “Elisa, did you think I was bluffing with the warning I gave you before?”
Elisa tightly gripped her phone, her knuckles turning white. Her entire body trembled as she took a deep breath and hoarsely replied, “Hamish, you brought me to Shallow Bay. Can I still escape?”
“You won’t be able to escape, but I want to fulfill what I said. When you do something wrong, you must face punishment. Even children understand this principle,” Hamish said maliciously. “Since you treat my words as nonsense, be prepared to be treated as less than human, locked in a cage and chained with iron. How does that feel?”
Elisa’s face turned pale, her lips a faint bluish color. The butler standing outside the door witnessed Elisa’s body go from slight trembling to violent shaking, making her almost unable to stand.
Elisa turned her head slightly and looked at the sky outside the window. She was now trapped like this, unable to leave and unable to die.
In an instant, she accepted this fact and sighed with resignation. “Hamish, you’re just a lunatic.”
“That’s because you’ve driven me crazy,” Hamish said before hanging up the phone.
Elisa’s expression became numb. She lowered her gaze, and her right hand, holding the phone, suddenly lost strength, causing the phone to fall to the ground.
Elisa was experiencing low blood sugar, and now she felt extremely dizzy. She staggered backward, taking a few steps, and accidentally tripped over the chain around her ankle.
Fortunately, there was a carpet on the floor, so even if she fell, it wouldn’t be too painful. The butler’s eyelid twitched, and he approached to help her up, but before he could touch her, Elisa suddenly roared like an angry beast.
“Get out!”
The butler’s hand recoiled, and he picked up his phone and exited the bedroom, closing the door behind him.
The maid brought food, but Elisa didn’t take a bite. She sat dazedly by the bed, her hands clasped around her knees, staring at the window.
…
After Hamish hung up the phone, Tobias knocked on the door and entered the CEO’s office.
“Mr. Burns, we have found out who cut off Ivan’s hand.”
“Who?”
“Autumn.” Tobias had never seen Autumn before. He was surprised when he received this information because not long ago, Hamish had asked him to investigate Autumn’s background.
Tobias held the documents and said, “Autumn, 27 years old, male, an orphan. He grew up in Goodlife Orphanage. Fourteen years ago, he suffered a head injury that left his intellect at the level of an eight-year-old. He was sent to the orphanage with amnesia and still doesn’t remember who he is.”
Autumn was the one who cut off Ivan’s hand?
“Why did he cut off Ivan’s hand?” Hamish asked, and Tobias paused for a moment with the documents in his hand. He glanced at Hamish, seeing that his expression was normal, before continuing, “According to the investigation, Autumn had been working part-time at Bankshire Hospital to see Mrs. Burns, and that’s where he encountered Lukas.”
The investigation’s results couldn’t be as detailed as witnessing it firsthand, but one could imagine that Lukas must have said something, and upon hearing that Ivan conspired with outsiders to harm Elisa, Autumn must have sought revenge and ended up cutting off Ivan’s hand.
Ivan deserved to have his hand severed. Even if Autumn hadn’t done it, Hamish would have found a time to kill him.
“Is there anything else?” Hamish asked.
Tobias shook his head. “This person is just a fool. He has been like a blank piece of paper during his fourteen years at the orphanage. But it’s strange too. How could a simpleton like him be so skilled at fighting? Ivan’s left meridian was severed, and his right hand had to be amputated. He’s probably disabled for life. Ivan reported the incident to the police, but given the abilities of those detectives, they probably won’t find anything.”
Tobias paused and asked, “Mr. Burns, should we hand over this evidence?”
Although this evidence couldn’t prove Autumn’s guilt, suspicions couldn’t be easily washed away. With some manipulation, they could ensure that he spends his life in prison.
Hamish fell into contemplation. His dark pupils were deep and unfathomable. For some reason, when he thought of Autumn, he also thought of Deacon Burns, the foster child of the Burns family fifteen years ago.
Deacon was originally the son of a bodyguard. When the bodyguard died protecting Old Burns, Old Burns, outof gratitude, took him under his wing.
Because of his talent in martial arts, Old Burns sent him to train, hoping that he would protect Hamish.
Fifteen years ago, when Hamish was kidnapped, Deacon took his place to save him, wearing his clothes to attract the kidnappers’ attention. In the end, Hamish was saved, but Deacon disappeared.
The news of his disappearance came when his clothes were found near a cliff, stained with blood…
