Lila was taken aback in her heart; she didn’t expect Hugo to guess all her plans. A sinister glint flashed in Hugo’s eyes as he reached out and pinched Lila’s chin, exerting a force that seemed like he wanted to crush her bones. Lila’s face turned pale, and a painful groan escaped her tightly pursed lips.
“Lila, after four years, can’t you see who Hamish really is? His heart doesn’t belong to you; it’s only Elisa. Even if Elisa dies, he will never marry you.”
“You’re talking nonsense!” Lila suddenly fell into madness. “He said he would marry me, so he definitely will!”
“A man’s words are as unreliable as a ghost’s. Do you believe what he says?” Hugo loosened his grip and lightly patted Lila’s face. The action seemed gentle, but his eyes were full of mockery, making it appear as if he was patting a dog.
Lila pushed his hand away with disgust and picked up her clothes from the ground.
“Why can’t you just be with me, Lila? I can treat you well too.”
“What are you compared to Hugo? His goodness is worthless in my eyes.”
“Hugo, if you truly want to be good to me, help me get rid of Elisa. I hate her. If she dies, Hamish will definitely marry me. Right now, you and I are like two fleas tied together by a rope. Only when I’m doing well can you do well.”
Hugo thought to himself that Lila was quite good at manipulating people, but he also found an entry point.
“What makes you think Hamish will marry you after Elisa’s death?”
To gain Hugo’s trust, Lila could only tell the truth and reveal the secret that had been hidden for six years.
“Six years ago, Hamish almost lost his life drowning. He thought I saved him.”
This woman had extraordinary courage; she dared to impersonate a life-saving favor. It was no wonder Hamish kept her by his side for six years. Originally, Lila seemed like an innocent person, but little did he know that this innocent person was filled with sharp needles. One careless move, and she could stab someone to death.
Hugo didn’t know whether to say Hamish was foolish or that he had poor judgment, as he couldn’t see that the white lotus flower by his side was actually a man-eating flower.
“Who was the one who really saved Hamish?”
“I don’t know. Hamish fell into the water at night, and it was pitch black all around. By the time he was rescued, he was already unconscious. Lila rushed to the hospital and stayed by his bedside all night. She didn’t intend to impersonate anyone, but when Hamish opened his eyes, he believed it was her who saved him. It was also after that incident that Hamish treated her well and said he would marry her.
“But don’t worry, it’s been six years, and he won’t find out.”
For a person like Hamish, who had risen to such a high position, he couldn’t be a good person. Lila could do whatever she wanted, as long as she took care of herself. But when Hugo heard her words, he couldn’t help but be tempted.
Both had their own thoughts. Lila became anxious when she saw that Hugo remained unmoved. She picked up her bag from the ground and took out a card from it.
“This is ten million. Hamish won’t be able to trace it. Hugo, I know you have connections in Bankshire, and you’re the only one who can help me.”
Hugo looked at the card in her hand, his Adam’s apple moved slightly. He did have connections, but dealing with Elisa posed too much risk.
He reached out and took Lila’s card. “Let me think about it.”
Seeing him accept the card, Lila knew he had agreed. She smiled coquettishly and took the initiative to hook her arm around Hugo’s neck, planting a kiss on his chin.
“Hugo, there will be benefits for you once it’s done.”
Hugo squeezed her waist and turned his body, pressing her onto the bed. “Then I want to see what kind of benefits they will be.”
