Chapter 143: Three Fires upon Assuming Office

A new official sets three fires upon assuming office. Early in the morning, Elisa went to the Burns Group to complete her onboarding procedures and take over the South Water Island project. After a detailed discussion with Tobias in the morning, they held a meeting in the afternoon.
Elisa hadn’t worked for nearly half a year, and Tobias thought she might take some time to adapt. However, he didn’t expect her to grasp their months of planning in just a few hours.
One could only say that she truly lived up to being Mr. Burns’ woman.
Wearing an office lady suit, Elisa adorned her slender figure with a shirt and a fitted half skirt. She tied her long hair up in a high ponytail, displaying both professionalism and femininity.
Once everyone was present, Elisa took her seat at the head of the table, glanced down, and said, “Let’s begin the meeting.”

The meeting lasted for two hours. Elisa hadn’t experienced such high-intensity work in a long time. She had been busy since morning until five in the afternoon, only managing to take a few bites of her lunch hastily. Now, her mouth was dry, and she felt a bit hungry.
Elisa had to end the meeting, overturning a few design concepts that needed to be redone and arranging for a market survey to be conducted.
South Water Island was vast, and besides the main amusement park, they also had to develop other areas, such as a food street. There were many things that could be incorporated into these areas, and once done well, they would only earn profits, not losses.
After Elisa’s meeting concluded, Tobias said, “Ms. Powell, Mr. Burns is waiting for you in his office.”
Leaning against the large desk, Elisa turned her pen while looking at the computer screen without lifting her head. She asked, “What does he want from me?”
Tobias reminded her, “Of course, he’s waiting for you to go home, Ms. Powell. It’s already the end of working hours.”
Elisa showed no emotions on her face. “I’ll work a bit longer. If you have urgent matters, you can leave first.”
“… As his assistant, how dare he leave before the boss? He genuinely felt that Elisa was setting him up.
Moreover, Hamish asked him to “assist” Elisa, but in reality, it meant handling the entire project’s work.
Curiosity got the better of Tobias, and he glanced at Elisa’s computer to see what she was busy with. However, his expression froze when he saw the contents on the screen.
“Ms. Powell, Baker Group isn’t on our list of collaborators.”
“They are now,” she replied. As the decision-maker for this project, it was up to her to decide who they would collaborate with.
She was the one who caused Micah to go abroad and nearly bankrupted Baker Group, resulting in significant losses. She had to make amends.
Elisa’s expression remained stubborn, and Tobias knew he couldn’t say anything further. He stood beside her and watched as she made a phone call to schedule an appointment with Baker Group.
The meeting was set for tomorrow morning at nine, and the location was at Baker Group.
It was unprecedented for Burns Group to take the initiative to discuss cooperation with another company. Elisa acted decisively and decided to expedite the process of signing the legal contract between the two parties as quickly as possible. Only then would she feel at ease.
After hanging up the phone, it was already close to six o’clock. Elisa packed up her computer and took out her phone to check the messages Hamish had sent her, asking when she would finish work so they could go home together, unrelated to the main discussion.
Walking out of the office in high heels, Elisa felt a dizzying sense of relaxation after a period of intense tension. Her body was having a hard time adapting. It alternated between feeling cold and hot, her skin breaking out in goosebumps. She could even sense a slight pain from the fabric rubbing against her flesh.
Elisa furrowed her brows slightly and sent a text message to Hamish: “I’m heading downstairs.”
“I’ll be waiting at the parking lot entrance.”
Hamish parked the car in the most conspicuous spot. Leaning against the car door, he had a cigarette in his hand, emitting a thick stream of smoke. When he saw Elisa, he instinctively extinguished it with his hand, disregarding the stinging pain on his fingertips, and threw the cigarette into the trash bin.
