Chapter 106: Hamish, Forgive Me

Book:Mr. Burns Is Killing His Wife Published:2024-6-4

Lila’s lips were trembling. “Hamish, are you doubting me?”
Hamish’s gaze was dark, his face so grim that it could drip water. After a while, his Adam’s apple rolled as he said, “Lila, you know I like obedient and honest people, and I despise deception.”
He forcefully grabbed Lila’s chin, applying pressure as if he wanted to crush that piece of bone. Lila was forced to tilt her head back, her face turning as pale as paper. It was unclear whether it was out of fear or pain. She tried to remain calm, but under Hamish’s sharp gaze, she couldn’t help but feel guilty, and her eyes flickered.
Hamish clearly saw the change in Lila’s complexion, and he sneered, clenching his teeth.
That laughter terrified Lila, making her legs tremble uncontrollably, forgetting about appearing pitiful.
Hamish was already starting to suspect her. It wouldn’t be long before he found out that she deliberately pushed Elisa down the stairs to frame her.
Lila didn’t know how to dispel Hamish’s suspicion. The more she said, the more mistakes she made. Hamish detested being deceived by others. Lila’s face lost all its color, and her heart pounded as if it wanted to burst out of her chest.
“Am I not good enough to you, Lila?”
Lila shook her head, tears streaming down her face.
In the past, Hamish would feel heartache when Lila cried, but now he only felt disgust. That’s how it is with people. Once they are betrayed by someone they trust, many things from the past are dug up. The neglected matters become more chilling the more one thinks about them, like weeds running rampant.
It felt as if Hamish’s hands had touched something dirty as he forcefully pushed Lila away.
Lila had just had her blood drawn today, and her body was weak. Combined with Hamish’s strength, she couldn’t withstand the push and fell backward onto the bed, hitting the edge of the bed heavily with her waist. Her face contorted in pain.
Lila held the painful area, her breathing erratic. She hadn’t expected Hamish to turn violent towards her. Just before this, he had been gentle, coaxing her and saying he would marry her in a year. He even mentioned letting her raise Elisa’s child.
“Lila, I can indulge your capriciousness, but you should never, ever hurt Elisa through me. Just thinking about Elisa collapsing and crying out in despair on the bed, Hamish’s heart felt a sharp pain.
Lila’s throat tightened, her face going cold, and her body slumped as she slid off the bed.
Seeing that Hamish was about to leave, Lila crawled over and grabbed his calf, pleading, “Hamish, don’t leave me. I was wrong. I shouldn’t have framed Elisa. I really love you too much. I’m afraid of you leaving me, afraid of you breaking your promise to marry me. Hamish, I truly made a mistake. I won’t do it again, I really…” Her voice choked up in the end, and all that remained were frantic sobs.
Her slender hand gripped Hamish’s pant leg tightly, and she looked up with tear-filled, bloodshot eyes. In her hands, she held what seemed like a lifeline.
“Hamish, we’ve been through so many years together. I even saved your life back then when you almost drowned. With our childhood friendship and the debt of gratitude, you wouldn’t abandon me, would you? It was because of you that I lacked a sense of security, and if it weren’t for your broken promises, your numerous dismissals, and your refusal to divorce Elisa, how could I have taken action against her?”
To put it bluntly, she did all of this for him!
Hamish lowered his gaze, looking at the pale hand gripping his calf. His eyes flickered with momentary confusion.
Lila’s words stirred up too many memories. Undoubtedly, Lila was the person he liked. Thinking back to six years ago, when he almost died drowning, it was Lila who risked her life to save him.
He wouldn’t abandon Lila due to their childhood friendship and the debt he owed her for saving his life. However, he really didn’t want to face her right now.
It felt as if the once-clear spring in his heart had been contaminated by mud. That feeling was somewhat nauseating.
Hamish squatted down, looking down at her. “You should move out and go back to where you used to live.”
Lila’s heart skipped a beat, and with red eyes, she looked at him and asked, “And what about you?”
“I haven’t divorced Elisa yet, and that belongs to both of us as joint property.”Hamish met Lila’s incredulous gaze and reached out to wipe away the tears from the corner of her eyes. “Lila, I will fulfill the promises I made to you, including marrying you and entrusting Elisa’s child to you.”
Having been in a position of power for a long time, Hamish had seen all kinds of people. Seeing a glimmer of hope in Lila’s eyes, he stood upright. “But the condition is that you have to behave.”
