Chapter 97: Making Elisa Pregnant

After Elisa finished her blood transfusion and passed the critical period, she was transferred directly to a regular ward.
Once the doctor and nurses left, Hamish moved a chair and sat by Elisa’s bedside, holding her cold hand.
Elisa gave birth flawlessly, even her hands looked delicate and long. As Hamish held her hand, his gaze gradually shifted to her abdomen.
Having slept with Elisa every day, he knew how thin she was, all bones. Her belly was small and narrow. He couldn’t imagine how any flesh could grow under her skin.
Hamish’s heart felt as if it were being strangled, aching and uncomfortable. He tried to console himself: if this child didn’t make it, they could try again for a second pregnancy. He didn’t pay attention to what the doctor had said. Whether Elisa could get pregnant was up to him. They would keep making love day and night until she conceived. If necessary, they could resort to ovulation injections.
As for habitual miscarriages, that was something to worry about later. As long as they took good care and were cautious, it wouldn’t be so easy to miscarry. After all, the baby inside her belly wasn’t just water.
Elisa had an IV needle in her arm, and as she watched the medication drip, Hamish pressed the button on the wall to call the nurse and have the needle removed.
Hamish glanced at the time; it was almost three o’clock. He had gone back to North Bankshire at noon to have lunch, but with all that had happened, he had forgotten to eat and didn’t feel particularly hungry.
Elisa received a lot of medication through the IV, and after the medicine was finished, she would need to receive nutrition. Having so much liquid pumped into her body made her blood feel thin.
The hospital allowed food delivery, so Hamish ordered a few light dishes on his phone, mostly ones that Lila liked to eat.
When the food delivery call came, he went to pick it up and brought it directly to Lila’s ward.
Lila had just taken a short nap and was no longer sleeping. Mrs. Gordon was chatting with her, and they were laughing and talking. When they heard the knocking on the door, Lila looked up and saw Hamish entering with the food container.
“I ordered your favorite. Have some,” he said.
Lila smiled sweetly, “Then come over quickly and eat with us. Mrs. Gordon already ate earlier and can go accompany Elisa.”
Hamish walked over, placing each dish on the table one by one, and replied, “She’s still sleeping.”
“It’s fine. Mrs. Gordon can go. Just in case she wakes up, there will be someone to take care of her,” Lila hinted to Mrs. Gordon, clearly trying to distract her.
“Yes, I’ll leave then.” Mrs. Gordon understood and left the room, making sure to close the door behind her to prevent others from overhearing their conversation.
Hamish sat down. “Which one do you want to eat?”
Lila glanced at the dishes. “I’ll have the soup.”
“Okay, let me feed you.” Hamish treated Lila completely differently, with much more patience. He tested the temperature and blew on the soup before giving it to her.
Lila took a sip and praised, “It’s delicious.”
“Then have more.”
The room felt warmer compared to the previous quietness. Lila felt content, but her appetite wasn’t great, and she couldn’t eat more than a few bites. She shook her head.
“Don’t want any more?” Hamish asked.
“I’m not hungry. You eat.”
“Are you feeling uncomfortable?” Hamish asked with concern.
“I feel a bit weak and dizzy. Resting will make it better,” Lila replied weakly, hoping to evoke Hamish’s protective instincts and make him care for her.
Little did she know that Hamish would remember the past when he forced Elisa to draw blood for Lila. Lila had become so weak after only 500ml of blood, while back then, he had forced Elisa to draw 800ml, a number that even scared the nurses. At that time, he never even spared her a tender look and instead insulted her for being delicate and pretending. But Elisa never complained and always rushed to the hospital whenever she heard he wanted Lila to draw blood.
Thinking about Elisa, who was still in a deep sleep in the hospital room, he felt a mixture of emotions. It seemed like he had made a lot of mistakes. He should have left room for regret.
This sentence suddenly occupied his entire mind and wouldn’t go away.
“Hamish, what are you thinking?” Lila pushed his hand.
Hamish snapped back to reality. “Nothing, what’s wrong?”
“I noticed you were lost in thought, not even blinking. What were you thinking just now?”
Hamish stayed silent, Lila looked at his expression and was certain that he must have been thinking about Elisa.
“Hamish, there’s something I’ve been wanting to tell you, but once you know, it might create a rift between you and Elisa,” Lila hesitated, her face showing a mix of emotions.
“What is it?” Hamish asked.
Lila hesitated for a moment, her expression conflicted. “Actually, I’ve known for a while that Elisa is pregnant.”
