Chapter 95: Difficulty in Conceiving

Elisa’s eyelashes trembled slightly, a subtle movement that Hattie noticed. She knew Elisa had heard her.
“Elisa, think about Micah. How devastated he would be if something happened to you. He’s already abroad doing cancer research, all to save you. So many researchers haven’t given up, and you shouldn’t give up on yourself either.”
Hattie applied both soft and firm pressure, and her heart twinged when she saw the tear stains in the corners of Elisa’s eyes.
Fortunately, she caught the excessive bleeding in time and sent someone to find a blood type match. If they had waited a little longer, the situation would have become much more dangerous.
Hattie closed her eyes and took a deep breath. The scent in her nostrils was either disinfectant or the smell of blood. Now, they had to wait for the person to draw the blood.
Hamish was also waiting. He alternated between looking at the operating room door and checking the time. Unable to bear it any longer, he sent a text message to Lila, asking where she was.
His anxiety was overwhelming. When he received Lila’s reply, his mood would relax for a moment, but soon it would tighten again.
Lila looked at the text message on her phone. Just by reading the words, she knew how nervous Hamish was about Elisa.
Why did Hamish fall in love with Elisa?
Perhaps even Hamish himself didn’t know the answer to that question.
Could it be that time had fostered their feelings? Time could decide many things, and it was time that allowed her to stay by Hamish’s side for so long.
Lila tightened her grip on her phone, and her expression suddenly became serious. She thought it was too easy for Elisa to get a divorce. She should suffer a painful price for occupying Lila’s place for four years!
Lila called Hamish as she neared the hospital. When she got out of the car, she saw Hamish. She put on a pretentiously concerned expression, hiding her true feelings.
“How is Elisa now?” she asked.
Hamish shook his head. “Sorry for troubling you.”
“It’s not a trouble. Elisa saved me too, so consider it my way of repaying her.” Lila’s words reminded Hamish that Elisa had saved her this time by donating blood, so she no longer owed her anything.
Hamish looked at the wounds on Lila’s legs and felt even more guilty. Elisa had pushed her down the stairs and caused her harm, yet Lila put aside their past and came to the hospital to save Elisa.
Hamish walked up behind Lila and carried her horizontally. With so many people at the hospital, Lila was both startled and delighted by his sudden action, her heart pounding like a startled deer.
She nestled in Hamish’s arms and shyly said, “Hamish, please put me down. There are too many people here.”
“It’ll be faster this way.” Hamish almost ran forward while holding Lila, as if he were carrying someone on the verge of death.
Lila’s previously boiling heart suddenly cooled at this moment. She looked at Hamish’s clenched jaw and knew that all his worries were for Elisa.
Hamish went straight to the blood drawing room and said to the nurse from earlier, “The person has arrived, no need to verify the blood type.”
“Please have a seat here, I’ll draw the blood soon.”
Although Hamish said there was no need to verify the blood type, the nurse still carefully checked it. Once it was confirmed that the blood type matched and there were no diseases, she began drawing the blood. A total of 500ml was taken.
Lila felt a bit dizzy and leaned back in the chair, feeling uncomfortable and furrowing her brows.
The blood was drawn quickly. As soon as the nurse collected the full 500ml, she hurriedly took it to the emergency room. The blood arrived just in time; if it had been five minutes later, Elisa would have completely fainted.
“Hamish, I feel a bit dizzy and uncomfortable.” It was a side effect after the blood draw.
Hamish worried about Elisa’s condition, but he couldn’t leave Lila here either. After hesitating for a moment, he ultimately decided to stay by Lila’s side.
Hamish arranged for two hospital rooms so that they could take care of both Lila and Elisa conveniently. The two rooms were adjacent to each other. After Mrs. Gordon paid the fees, he carried Lila to the room.
“Are you still feeling uncomfortable?” Hamish asked.
“I’m fine.” Lila weakly shook her head and added, “I’m fine here. You should go check on Elisa. Mrs. Gordon is with me.”
Since Lila said so, Hamish no longer hesitated. He took out a bank cardfrom his wallet and handed it to Mrs. Gordon. “Take good care of Lila here. If there’s anything you need, just let the nurses know. You can use the card as you please.”
Mrs. Gordon took the card, and after Hamish left, she couldn’t help but ask, “Miss Morris, why did you let Mr. Burns go? Don’t you want him to stay by your side?” She believed that as long as Lila said a word, Hamish would never leave.
“I do want him to stay, but the more understanding I show, the more guilty Hamish feels. It also makes Elisa appear narrow-minded. This way, I achieve two goals at once.”
Lila felt tired. After speaking for a while, she couldn’t muster the energy and fell asleep on the bed, drowsy and lethargic.
When Hamish rushed back to the emergency room, Elisa had just been wheeled out, covered with a thin blanket, only revealing her pale face and a pair of beautiful eyes tightly shut.
“How is she?”
The female doctor in front of him glanced at him coldly, her gaze filled with various complex emotions. Hamish was somewhat stunned by her intense scrutiny.
“Are you her husband?” The question was not meant as an inquiry, and her tone carried a hint of mockery.
Did she know him? Hamish didn’t have time to think much and simply nodded, “Yes.”
“Your wife’s health is not good. After this miscarriage, her body is severely damaged, and she may not be able to conceive in the future.” Elisa had taken too many contraceptives in the early stages, combined with stomach cancer. This time, she had finally become pregnant, but the unexpected miscarriage had weakened the uterine wall.
Even if she were to get pregnant again, it would be prone to miscarriages. Moreover, her advanced stage of stomach cancer left no time for pregnancy.
