“Lila, I need your blood to save Elisa,” Hamish said over the phone.
Lila received a call from Hamish, and when she heard that he needed her blood, she almost thought she was dreaming or hallucinating.
She clenched her fist tightly, digging her nails into the palm of her hand, causing it to bleed, but she didn’t feel any pain.
“Has something happened to Elisa?”
Hamish’s voice trembled, “Yes, she had a miscarriage with my child, and now she’s bleeding heavily. You know, her blood type is rare, and the hospital doesn’t have any in stock. Only you can save her.”
Lila gritted her teeth. Only now did she feel the stinging pain in her hand, but it was quickly overshadowed by heartache.
“Hamish, I am also injured!” How could Hamish ask her to give blood to that wretched woman, knowing well that she had a unique condition? Drawing blood once would cost her a significant portion of her life.
Everyone has some degree of selfishness, but Lila’s level of selflessness was rare. At this moment, she had completely forgotten that if it weren’t for Elisa donating blood to her in the past four years, she would have died long ago.
Hamish replied, “Lila, I know this is unfair to you. As long as you agree to save Elisa, I promise to fulfill all your conditions.”
Lila’s dim eyes suddenly lit up. This might be an opportunity. Hamish had always avoided marrying her, but since he said he would agree to all her demands, she would ask him to divorce Elisa!
“Do you really agree to all my conditions?”
“Yes.”
Lila calmed down. If she didn’t save Elisa and she died, it would create an insurmountable barrier between her and Hamish forever.
“Fine, I’ll come right away.”
After hanging up the phone, Lila moved her legs. Falling from such a high place had left her with bruises on her legs, which hurt a lot.
She shouted upstairs, “Mrs. Gordon, bring me a coat.”
Mrs. Gordon, holding the coat, asked, “Miss Morris, are you going out?”
“Yes, Elisa had a miscarriage and lost a lot of blood. Hamish just called me to go and donate blood.”
Mrs. Gordon looked at Lila’s calm face with surprise. It was so unlike Lila’s usual attitude towards Elisa. How could she willingly go and donate blood with a kind heart?
Without asking further, Mrs. Gordon handed the coat to Lila and noticed the bruise on her leg. She expressed concern, “But you’re injured. Are you alright?”
“It’s a minor issue.” Lila hailed a taxi and arrived in just five minutes. Upon receiving the call, Lila had asked Mrs. Gordon to support her as she walked out.
In the hospital, Hamish had never felt time passing so agonizingly slow. He was outside the emergency room, and Elisa was inside. Although they were just a few dozen meters apart, it felt like they were worlds apart, as if there was a life-and-death chasm between them.
The nurse, after seeing Hamish hang up the phone, handed him a critical condition notice and said, “Sir, please sign here.”
Hamish quickly signed his name and the nurse looked at his name thoughtfully. She recalled the conversation he had just had on the phone. Although she didn’t hear what the other person had said, judging by his expression, it seemed that he had found someone with the same blood type to donate.
The nurse breathed a sigh of relief, took the critical condition notice, and entered the operating room to show it to Hattie. She also mentioned what she had overheard.
Upon hearing that someone with Rh-negative AB blood was coming to the hospital to donate blood and save Elisa, Hattie felt relieved.
Elisa hadn’t completely lost consciousness yet. If she lost over 1000ml of blood, it would easily lead to irreversible brain damage, resulting in brain death or a vegetative state.
“Elisa, I know you can hear me,” Hattie leaned close to Elisa’s ear. “Don’t give up. Think about that scumbag outside. Are you really going to let him off like this? He has harmed your family, and now he hasn’t even spared your child. If I were you, I would live well and seek revenge!”
