It is afternoon but it seems more like evening as birds chirp and fly above our packs, alighting and taking off every now and then as though they have been sent to inspect us. I luckily grab hold of one of the birds as I squeeze it in my hands.
“Release that bird.” Cate tells me. “She will hurt us.”
“Why are you talking to me? I think you’re snubbing me earlier.” I reply her. “She’s just a bird. Nothing else. And if there is anything more, I’ll resort to shifting to my witch self.”
“I’ll make sure I take control without order if you don’t drop the bird now. Damn.” She grudges and hits me inside but I control her with the witch self in me. The bird looks so pretty but it seems there’s a thick and slimy red rope in its beak, I try to drag it out but it hits my palm with its beak and shuts his eyes. She suddenly opens her eyes again and now, it’s another colour.
“What kind of bird is this?” I ask myself as Dad approaches me.
“It’s eerie, right?” He chuckles. “Last time I checked, you love eerie things.”
“I wasn’t talking to you.” I reply and walk out on him, making sure the bird is still intact in my hand.
“Go into a room and let’s see.” My wolf tells me. “I hope you won’t reject that as well.” Obediently, I move into a close room and shut the door as I drop the bird on the ground since there’s no escape route in the room. The bird releases its wings and lets its beak get in to become flat lips.
“It’s a bat, not a bird.” A wolf lying down in a bed in the room I am, suddenly says. “Take it out of here. That represents a Vampire.”
“A Vampire?” I ask myself.
“I answered already.”
“I wasn’t asking you, please.”
“Just get it out of my room now before it destroys all of us.
“Lisa, I have an idea.” My wolf suddenly tells me. “Since you’ll need to contact Alex in the ghost world through your vampire self, why not plead with this or ask her if she knows how to actiavte vampires within oneself.”
“That’s quite true but this doesn’t look like a human. At all.” I reply. “She’s squatting and moving uncontrollably. Seems the spirit is coming upon her.”
“Just get in front of her and say it. She might turn to a human luckily for you.” Cate yells at me from inside.
“Stop yelling. I’ll try that now.” I reply and squat in front of the bed whose system has started changing.
“Take her out now. I’m not dressed yet.” The wolf in bed tells me. “She is a vampire and we don’t want that in this pack. Or do you want blue wolves from the moon goddess?”
“No, I don’t.” I reply in haste, scrutinizing the movement of the bird; a bat now.
“As though she knows anything called blue wolves.” The wolf mutters but I gotta give him a wide berth as he’s completely ignorant that I’m even a mate to a blue wolf not to talk of not knowing who blue wolves are.
“If she breathes on you, then you’ve been infected. You’ll become a vampire in few hours. Sometimes even minutes.” He warns me.
“Okay, thank you.” I look back at him and nod my head. “You can get into the restroom and have a good dress so you’ll excuse us.”
“I won’t do that.” He replies.
“Then we will both be bitten.” I reply him and my wolf chuckles within me.
Just like the sound of thunder coupled with the streaks lightning give when striking through the clouds down to the earth and commanding a downpour, the bat shrieks making me completely shudder and shiver. I unintentionally move backwards and jam myself in bed, making me to go into the wolf (man)’s arms. He hugs me from behind before I know he’s the one. The bat rises up with a loud and harsh tone as its eyes turn blue black with red colour below. Its head grows into a big skull while his mouth sharpens and becomes as tiny as ants. Then, with his claws moving around the tiles from top to bottom, it gets hurt but grows bigger and bigger, infecting its body as well. Its body enlarges in nanoseconds and then she jumps high and gets down again.
“Eerie action.” The man chuckles.
“She can hear you.” I warn him. “Don’t repeat that. Eerie objects don’t like them to be called as such.”
“You can as well seal my lips.” The man says after I jerk his hands off of my shoulders.
“You bastard, you’re the one touching me.” I yell at him and luckily, my palms get to his chin but in a tough way. “Come on bird, grab him and tear him into pieces.”
The bird, now a bat, and now what can be called a monster, as though it’s heeding my words, darts towards the man as she keeps calling his name.
“Simon, Simon.” Her voice looks more like a shrill. “You’re number two.”
Then, my eyes widen in shock. First, I think I’ll be number three but my wolf pops up within me and I have a rethink immediately.
“Smith was the first person to be killed in this pack.” I analyze within me. “And this bat more like a vampire or monster is telling Simon that he’s the second.”
“Please, who is the third?” I tap the monster from behind not long ago after she pounced on Simon. I will never protect anyone from dying in this pack, not even when they did legitimately. The monster looks back with bloodstained teeth and claws soaked in red and thick liquor. And that is Simon’s wolf blood. One of the reasons why moon goddess or a very high paranormal being sends blue wolves or vampires. In this pack house, vampires and blue wolves are capable of killing a wolf and restricting such wolf from healing. Even Wizards, ordinary monsters like Dad, and or witches can’t completely kill a wolf. We can only injure them severely. If they claim to die, then it’s a blatant lie.
“Prepare yourself.” The bat tells me but still turns her back to me while chopping off the wolf’s important organs. “… for war.. moon goddess has been irked.”
“Cate, did you hear that?” I message her from within me as she bubbles up and signifies she heard.
“Your Mate…” Someone says and opens the door to the room while he closes his back eerily. “… is such an active one. He’ll kill all warriors and honourable in this pack house and then he’ll come back.”
“He’s been trying to kill Thompson but he hasn’t gotten to. I wonder why.” I ask him, shedding any form of pretence.
“That’s because one of the reasons he would want to do that is to get you and you’re the Alpha’s daughter. That’s what is saving the Alpha.” He replies. “But all the best, we will ensure he dies through thin or thick.”
“Who are you by the way?” I rub my eyes as he approaches me.
“I’m Jim. I was the big wolf that killed Smith.” He replies. “And here is my mate. She can change to any form since she’s a witch.”
“Wow.” I tell him as I stare at the witch still feeding on the wolf. “But as far as I know, only vampires and blue wolves can do this.”
“She’s also a vampire.” He replies. “And she can offer you to become one too if you’re interested.”
“I’ll think about it, Jim. Thank God, I now have whom I can physically talk to.” I smile as my chin gets a widened visitation.
“She’s Mirabel while I’m Jim and you’re…?” He asks as he sits beside me.
“I’m Clarissa. Lisa for short.” I reply and he curls my hair.
“Lisa, you’ll follow us tonight to the back of the pack house. We need to burn some wolves to gain more power. That is one of the reasons we are excited to do this job for the moon goddess and for Alex since we can also get power once we burn the wolves.”
“And thank God Alex didn’t ask for their bodies.” Mirabel replies and sighs as she lets herself on the bed. “Ouch, I’m tired.”
“Have you sucked enough blood?” Jim asks her and she nods her head.
“His blood has been drained. I’ll dump him in the trash can soon.” She says, conveniently as I shake my head to see the person we just bickered about something recently, to be lying lifelessly beside the bed.
Simon. Gone. Alex’s making these processes gorier for each person he pounces on.
“I hope you know you’ll support your mate as well?” Jim asks me.
“Sure. Why wouldn’t I?” I reply. “Why did you say that all of a sudden?”
“Because you’re to kill the next person ordained to die.” He tells me but faces Mirabel.
