Ash shook his head, indicating a negative answer. There was nothing else in the phones and they had also completed the task they laid down to help Nelly track down her enemies.
They weren’t much but they were powerful men involved too. Easton Landers, Ivan Landers, Ethan Stratford and Aria Dean.
“Including Amon,” her inner voice said.
All these people deserved no ounce of pity. Easton was very meticulous in his dealings that he always escaped being caught even when his men were caught red handed. Somehow, there was always an escape route where he sneaks out of, unscathed. Aria was dead, she would take care of Amon when she travelled back to Germany.
“And that’s if he’ll still be my neighbour. With his job done, he’ll flee.” The next person was Ivan. Some years ago, she had saved that life, but today, the reverse was the case. She was going to end it. She took out her pistol and hid it inside her cloth. She was too bitter to think about the consequences of her actions! To hell with consequences.
Next, she sat down and analysed the report from her father’s company. It was as if no one was pulling strings now or that she didn’t notice any little movement. Ivan lived up to his words, he left the company after that day. Looking at the details of the company, she now knew why her father couldn’t do anything when he was blackmailed by his good for nothing son. Something had to be done because she couldn’t grow that company again on the same foundation. She knew a lot of people were waiting for her to start rebuilding the company and they would all bring their fangs and bury it into her, to milk her dry with their different blackmails and dirty story. She was convinced at this point that her father did no good job in building the company.
“He should have at least thought about this. Some people are very good at betrayal. Now, this company is as good as nothing. What do I do?”
Well, her best friend Ash, with his bank and sea of knowledge should have an answer.
“It’s best you overhaul the company. If we leave things as they are, some people will hide some dirt and wait for the right time to blow it up, ruining everything you’ve worked so hard for. How about we come clean to the public, your father orchestrated all these but he’s dead now and he has no consequences to face. Just promise the public that your company is a new one now and it’s ever ready to be of service to them. Will it be difficult to begin anew? The answer is yes but I’m here for you. We will do it together and we’ll be winners soon!”
One problem solved. The next was Ivan. She was prepared to send him to hell that night.
Two cars were moving slowly, and there was only one occupant in each of the cars. After several turns, Ivan was very sure that the other driver was following him. But who was it that dared to come after him? Has he or she a death wish? He made a phone call and informed his security to get set and be on alert. He took a left turn and the car followed suit. He accelerated and drove at a high speed and soon, he cut through another road and double crossed the other car. He pulled his car to a halt, right in front of the other car making it impossible for the other driver to move forward or backwards. He sat in his car while the other driver opened the door and came down.
It was a female? And why does she look damn familiar?
He opened his car and came down too. It was a quiet road and it was late and dark. When they were some distance apart, the lady pulled out a gun and pointed it at him.
“Nelly?”
“Yes. It’s me. You’ve caused me so much pain and I think it’s high time I sent you to the land of no return. My father was my joy, my peace and my all. You have a hand in his death! If you hadn’t made things difficult for me, I would never have left the country for anything, leaving my father behind. As if that wasn’t enough damage, you didn’t give my old man a break in my absence. You don’t deserve to live!”
“Nelly, I’m sorry. I’m more scared of your unforgiveness than I am of your gun. I’m sorry. I messed up and I regret every single day of it. I didn’t know it was you but I swear, the moment I knew, I looked for you everywhere but you were nowhere. You can attest to how loyal I was to this unknown person even in her absence. How much more will I be to you in your presence and when we are together. Nelly, I’m sorry. Please, give me another chance to set right all my wrongs. Please, give me just one chance and I swear you will not regret it. I promise you this one thing. Our daughter needs us please, I also need to see my daughter, carry her in my arms and treat her like my own. Please. I know you are angry, but take a deep breath. We can fix this together.”
“To hell with you!” Nelly snapped.
“I do not want to fix anything with you. When I loved you, you only made me miserable. You even had to deny your own daughter, and now you have the nerves to talk about giving her a good life. Jokes on you. I don’t love you anymore and I will never do! And get your mind off my daughter cos she will never have anything to do with you as long as she lives. I only want your life because you don’t deserve to live after ruining someone else’s life.”
“Alright. If killing me would make you feel better, go ahead. But always know that I love you, and my daughter too. Killing me right now will not give you the opportunity to experience the best of life that I’m promising to you. How about you give me a chance, if there’s anything I’m not doing well, you are free to kill me. That time, I will not beg for my life.”
“Humph!” Nelly sneered and looked around her.
“And the only place you decided to block my car was here, the same place I saved your life many years ago.” It was then that Ivan looked around and observed his surroundings. She wasn’t far from the truth. It was exactly at that spot that she saved his life many years ago when he was just a common man.
“I want to pull this goddamn trigger right now and have you sprawl on the floor but no. I will not end your life the same place I saved it. No. I will be honest with you, the scene of that accident sends shivers down my spine each time it comes to mind. I will not have it in records that I killed you where I saved your life. I’ll go away now. But don’t think you deserve to live. Move your car out of my way.”
Like someone in a trance, he got into his car and did as she said. Soon, she drove off leaving him all alone in the silent road. It seemed like it was just his imagination but no, it was real!
