Nelly was in her father’s room with Emma the following morning. She was looking for any document related to work that could help her in what she wanted to do. Emma was there as a form of distraction and at the same time, company.
“Mummy look at this,” Emma announced excitedly, raising a colorful book.
“Yes, it’s nice.”
“Mummy, this is beautiful,” Emma called out again, pointing at the aquarium on the television screen.
She called her mother’s attention twice more until Nelly nearly lost it.
“Mummy? Come and take a look at this.”
“Emma, I’m busy and I don’t like that distraction. If you will keep disturbing me, I’ll have to walk you out. This isn’t time to play. I’ll play when I’m done with what I have here.”
“But mummy, it’s not something to play with. Just come and see,” she pressed further.
“If it’s anything insignificant, I’ll throw you out!” she threatened.
“What is it?”
“Look!”
Emma raised the table clock on her grandfather’s table and showed her mum a button that was glittering.
“A tape recorder.”
This fuelled Nelly’s interest. A tape recorder? In her father’s room? Who could have put it there?
She was super proud of her baby girl for being so observant.
“Can you help mummy find where the chip can be?”
Emma nodded and set to work. In no time, she spotted it. It was inside the cutlery set, on the table. Nelly was taken aback. Why would her father have camera hidden in his room? And in those places where no one could fathom?
She suspended what she was doing at the moment and decided to figure out what was in the camera chip. Another problem was the password!
Her birthday!
This was her father’s most popular password. She input her birthday and it opened. She watched the video carefully.
It happened that when Nathan fell ill, he decided to take necessary security measures. He would monitor everything and everyone’s move in case of any thing.
“Nelly, I hope you see this even after I’m no more,” he muttered at some point in the video. This brought tears to Nelly’s eyes.
“Yes dad. I’m currently watching it.”
She skipped some parts of the video because she was merely glancing but something made her stop towards the end of the video. It was Ethan who was speaking.
“One thing that can kill a man easily is stubbornness. And that’s going to be the case here. Your stubborn heart will kill you.”
Nelly took the video about twenty seconds behind to see what happened before Ethan made that comment.
He offered Nathan a glass of water before he started speaking. The camera spotted him adding something to the glass of water!
“I’ll advise you call your daughter wherever she is and tell her to remain there. The company belongs to me now. Easton was right. The best advice he ever gave me was to poison you. In fact, he gave me that which I put in your water now. You will die a peaceful death while we, the youngsters will inherit the wealth. You don’t have to drag that with us. Just rest in peace. You don’t have any reason to stay alive if you would be a stumbling block to our greatness. Just before you pass out, I’ll tell you. The company belongs to Easton and I now. I’m the owner and the CEO while he will receive a certain percentage from me. About what I asked you to sign the last time, you can go to hell with it! Let it constantly remind you that I’m the bigger person now! Bye father,” he laughed with undisguised mockery and left the room.
Nelly found it difficult to comprehend what she had just seen. Was this true or was she in a dream? Ethan and Easton were the ones who killed her father?
Justice for Mr Nathan Stratford!
She called Ash, briefed him and together, they went to the police to lodge a complaint. Ethan was arrested and Easton was detained. His social status didn’t help him this time. This was a murder case.
The proof was substantial. Her father’s body was exhumed and an autopsy carried out. It was confirmed that he had consumed a harmful substance as suspected.
Easton claimed he was innocent.
Why would he be accused without proof just because Ethan said so?
“The boy could be lying to dent my image,” he finished and his lawyer supported him.
“What if I say I have proof?” Ethan suddenly declared.
“Proof of what?” It was Easton’s lawyer.
“Our meeting and conversation. He asked me to poison my father.”
The police man gave him the permission to produce it. He was taken to his house and they returned with it.
“Why didn’t you bring this a long time ago?” the officer asked, eyeing him curiously.
“I forgot about it but I remember now.”
When Ethan was telling his close friend of his appointment with Easton, and bragging that he would soon be the CEO, this friend merely joked and said,
“You better take a recording device. He’s a big shot and can deny you your new position at will. Meanwhile, patronise my little business. I sell tiny camera. I have button hole and a lot more. They all go for just fifty dollars but you can get it for forty dollars cos we are friends!”
And that was it. Ethan took the advice of this friend who was advertising his goods and this happened to be the last straw that broke the carmel’s back. Easton was finally implicated.
The Lander’s family with all their wealth and social status couldn’t find a way around it. It was a difficult case since it involved a life.
Both were tried in court and sentenced to life imprisonment.
However, it was only Easton who had fallen in the family. Ivan was still the biggest CEO. The only thing he could do was that he got his grandfather a good lawyer but the law prevailed. He also helped to curb the flow of the news on social media.
Nelly was glad that everyone has had a taste of their own medicine. Ivan was the only one left. She waited for the next time he would be delivered into her hands by fate.
Nelly spent the next few days and weeks rebranding the company. She was getting rid of all the dirt and trying to set up the company from the scratch with no dent.
One day, there was a news that caused a stir. This happened exactly two weeks after Easton’s imprisonment.
Ivan was involved in a ghastly motor accident!
