Amon was startled the moment he heard Nelly’s voice. He panicked so much that he didn’t even know when he ended the call.
“Who were you speaking to over the phone?” Nelly asked, trying to get the answer from his facial expression.
What will he answer? Did Nelly already suspect anything?
No. Nelly was just trying to ascertain if Amon was in trouble or not. She didn’t suspect anything. What was there to suspect after all?
“I – I – I was just…um” Amon struggle to voice out whatever was trying to come through his larynx. The way and manner he rotated his eyes only suggested he was just looking for the perfect excuse to give to Nelly.
Was Amon hiding something from Nelly?
“Speak up, Amon. Who was it that you were speaking to over the phone and why did you sound so serious?” Nelly was pressing hard, she was so eager to know.
“I was just speaking to a co- worker. He asked me to stand in for him tomorrow so I was just reassuring him that he has nothing to worry about. He was so worried about our boss so I had to relax him.”
If Amon was asked by Nelly to repeat what he had said, he definitely would not be able to. He spoke whatever came into his mind. He wasn’t even sure that Nelly would believe whatever crap he said, but he hoped she did.
Amon’s hope was not in vain. Nelly believed him.
“Oh, that’s it? I thought there was something serious going on.”
Amon laughed and told Nelly that it was nothing. She didn’t have to worry about anything, according to him.
“I made dinner, thought you might be hungry.”
Amon was starving. He mimicked a hungry child by rubbing his stomach and smacking his lips. It was a move to get Nelly to smile and she did.
Amanda was a talkative, one of the only reasons Nelly didn’t like letting her in on anything. She was so quick to tell Amon about Neuer.
Amanda told Amon about Neuer as they are their dinner. She told him how he met Nelly, his initial bad attitude and how he had began warming up to Nelly.
“Warming up to me?” Nelly had a chunk of food in her mouth when she asked.
“Of course, Nelly. Isn’t Neuer warming up to you?”
“He just apologized, and he did so to the both of us. Why did you have to say he is warming up to me?”
Amanda knew just how to piss Nelly off. She enjoyed teasing Nelly and she did so with the slightest opportunity she had.
“Are you here with us?” Nelly asked Amon. He seemed to be so lost in his thoughts.
“Amon?” Nelly called his name repeatedly, a triple times to be precise.
“Yes, yes.”
“What is it you were thinking of?” Nelly asked.
“Me? I wasn’t thinking of anything. I was listening to you two the whole time.” Amon made a very funny claim.
“You weren’t. I called you three times but you gave no answer. Is anything wrong?”
Amon went on to insist that all was fine. No matter what Nelly said and how she said it, he still insisted that nothing was wrong.
“Oh! I think the problem with me is that I’m just sleepy. I need to go home and have some rest.”
Nelly excused him.
“Weird,” Amanda said as Amon was leaving the house. She didn’t know being lost in thought with your eyes wide open was the same as being sleepy.
Vivian and Ash were having another episode of their argument.
“It’s going to be our anniversary tomorrow and all you’re saying is that we’ll go out and eat? Really?!”
“What else do you think we should do! I don’t understand you anymore!”
Vivian had been throwing tantrums since the moment Ash stepped into her house. The funniest thing about the situation was that she refused to speak up. Ash had requested from her to know what she would rather prefer but she kept saying he should know. He was so confused, he could not remember when he told her he now reads minds because that was exactly what she was trying to make him do.
“Our anniversary can’t just be only meals, Ash. We have to do something extra to make it memorable.”
They something extra was what Ash was trying to get out of her but she kept dodging the question. Whenever he asked, she would get pretty upset and say he should know. Ash was almost losing his mind. He couldn’t believe she was just making them go round in circles.
“Fine, I’ll tell you! I’m going to tell you since you don’t want to figure it out yourself.”
Was Vivian ready to tell Ash about the little extra she wanted?
“We need something to show people that we’re doing good.”
“You mean you need something for the media?” Ash interpreted.
“Not me, we!”
Ash didn’t want anymore arguments or drama so he let her have anything she wanted.
Vivian wanted to purchase a gown, a new brand launched by the Italian company in there first outing in the city. It was a huge request, especially since Ash would be the one paying with his credit card.
“Fine, you can have whatever you want.”
Vivian immediately went shopping they evening. She was however disappointed to see that she under – budgeted for the gown. It was a hundred dollar more than the money Ash gave to her and the very last one was about to be bought. She should make it up with her money. After all, it was her who wanted something high, beyond her social echelon. But Vivian would not dare touch her money, she was the entitled type, she felt every lady was entitled to her man’s money. She wasn’t considerate, she was going to call Ash and she did. Unfortunately, Ash’s phone was switched off. There was no more time left to get the cloth.
A man was watching from the other end as Vivian struggled to make up the money at the cashier’s desk.
“Excuse me,” the man said as he approached Vivian from behind.
“Let me be, I don’t want to talk to you.”
“And what if I tell you I’ll be getting you that gown?” He grinned.
