Chapter 282 Ending 5

Book:The Revenge of My Alluring Wife Published:2024-6-4

Christopher’s medical malpractice case resulted in a judgment of nearly tens of millions in compensation, with a three-day execution period. If Christopher failed to provide the money within three days, the court would enforce the judgment by liquidating all his valuable assets.
Christopher wasn’t going to give the court that chance. As soon as he left the courthouse, he converted all his valuable assets into cash. He then began contacting Scarlett, preparing to leave at any moment.
When Evelyn received the news, Scarlett had just bought sleeping pills, suggesting she might act that very night.
Evelyn briefed Henry on her whereabouts and made a quick trip to James’s mansion.
Upon seeing her, “What are you here for?” he asked.
Evelyn glanced at him casually. “I came to see when you’re going to be sold off.”
With a meaningful look at her, Scarlett doubted that she had found out something. But Scarlett couldn’t discern anything from Evelyn’s expression.
“Honey, Evelyn rarely comes back. Don’t be like that,” Scarlett intervened. Though she detested Evelyn now, it was almost time, and she couldn’t afford any mistakes to disrupt her plan.
“It’s nearly dinner time. I’ll prepare a nice meal. It’s been a while since you and your daughter ate together,”
James remained seated on the sofa, his gaze shifting to today’s evening paper. The front page displayed Christopher’s compensation ruling, stirring discomfort in James. Hastily, he set the paper aside.
“What’s bothering you? Can’t handle a bit of excitement?” Evelyn retrieved a bottle of water from her bag and twisted the cap open. “Who knows, there might be more thrills in store for you later.”
“You!” James slammed the table. “The biggest mistake of my life was giving birth to you, Evelyn. Why don’t you just die?”
Evelyn’s hand paused as she drank water, her eyes glinting coldly. She had heard this phrase more than once in her lifetime. In the previous life, it was James’s favorite insult, which had caused her considerable pain. But now… Well!
With a cold laugh, Evelyn replied, “Seems like you’re getting senile. In terms of age and health, I’m better off than you. As long as you’re still alive, how could I leave this world?”
“You!” James was furious.
“All right… all right. Dinner’s ready,” Scarlett intervened, timely pulling James away and giving Evelyn a glance before leading him away.
Evelyn followed inside at a leisurely pace. The table was filled with dishes, all of James’s favorites. However, it was impossible to prepare so much food in such a short time. Scarlett must have bought and prepared everything in advance, and spiked it with the medicines.
Evelyn sat down without a word.
“Quick, taste it. Your dad loves this dish the most,” Scarlett said, worried that Evelyn might still hold a grudge from their last encounter at the hospital. “I was wrong last time. Evelyn, can you forgive me, please?”
“Sure,” Evelyn replied calmly, not wanting to waste time.
James was coaxed by Scarlett and ate even more joyfully. But after just ten minutes, he started dozing off and fell asleep on the table.
Scarlett breathed a sigh of relief. Then she stared at Evelyn, who still seemed clear-headed, and hurriedly served her more food.
Unfortunately, Evelyn had already consumed the water spiked with antidotes just now, developing immunity to anything mixed into the dishes.
“Scarlett, do you really want me to fall asleep too?” Evelyn asked, cutting to the chase.
Scarlett’s heart skipped a beat, and she quickly explained, “No, that’s not what I meant.”
“Evelyn, why do you always misunderstand me? Besides, we’re just having dinner. It’s impossible to fall asleep just like that. Your dad is just too tired,” Scarlett replied.
“Is that so?” Evelyn smiled faintly, leaning on the table with her eyes closed. “Then how… come I’m feeling sleepy too?”
Scarlett waved her hand in front of Evelyn’s eyes. When she didn’t react, Scarlett patted her chest in relief.
“You little bitch, you almost ruined everything for me. If it weren’t for the time constraints, I would’ve taught you a lesson,” Scarlett muttered. After suppressing her anger, she swiftly went upstairs and took everything from the safe.
On her way down, she noticed the diamond necklace around Evelyn’s neck and didn’t hesitate to take it too.
Suddenly, the sound of a car horn outside caught Scarlett’s attention, and she hurriedly left.
The mansion’s door slammed shut, and Evelyn slowly opened her eyes.
She stood up, walked to the bathroom, poured a glass of water, and splashed it on James.
“Wake up, your wife has run away.”
Perhaps Scarlett had given James too much medication. Despite splashing a glass of water on him, James showed no reaction. Evelyn had no choice but to give him a dose of the potent medicine Frank had provided, followed by another glass of ice-cold water.
As the cool sensation washed over him, James’s hand on the table moved slightly, and he slowly opened his eyes. He first glanced at the cup of water in Evelyn’s hand, then noticed his soaked clothes, instantly infuriated.
“You little bitch, what are you doing?” he bellowed.
“Tsk.” Evelyn rolled her eyes in disdain. “So grating. Can’t you keep your voice down?”
As he was about to speak, Evelyn interrupted him, “James, have you figured out the situation yet?”
“If I’m not mistaken, you were just having dinner, right? How come you suddenly passed out?”
“You ate just now too, why didn’t you fall asleep?”
“And Scarlett? What did you do to her, you little bitch?”
Seeing how much James cared about Scarlett, Evelyn felt a sense of pity for him. He was the typical type who helped count the money even after being sold out by someone else.
Evelyn kindly reminded him, “She should have run away with someone else.”
James didn’t believe it at all. “Evelyn, if you’re trying to sow discord between us, at least come up with a convincing reason.”
“Don’t believe me?” Evelyn pointed upstairs. “Go up and see if the safe in the house is empty.”
James stood there in a daze for a long time before finally rushing upstairs to the bedroom. When he came out again, he looked dazed, as if he had suffered a great blow. “Was it you? Did you force her?” he accused Evelyn.
“Evelyn, it must have been you who forced her to reveal the safe’s password. Where did you take the money? Tell me,” he demanded, lunging at Evelyn’s throat. But Evelyn seemed to anticipate his move and dodged immediately.
“If you don’t believe me, then let me play something for you,” she said, pulling out her phone and starting to play an audio recording in real-time.
The diamond necklace that woman took was specially modified by her, with a tracking system and real-time recording device installed by Jonathan.
The sound of the car engine started, and the conversation between Scarlett and Christopher came through the recording.
“Darling, did you get everything?”
“Of course,” Scarlett cooed. “Why don’t you ask if I’ve been discovered? Am I in danger?”
Christopher, now consumed by greed, “Aren’t you safe here with me? Sweetheart, tell me, how much did you get?”
Scarlett replied, “I got everything valuable. I secretly mortgaged that mansion for tens of millions. With these jewels, we’ve got nearly a billion altogether.”
Surprised by James’s considerable wealth, Scarlett figured it was probably what he had swindled from his old man. With so much wealth, yet he was unwilling to buy her a healthy kidney on the black market. Leaving him was definitely the right choice.
Christopher, also taken aback, stared at the small black package in Scarlett’s hand, eyes gleaming with greed. “Quick, let me see.”
“What’s the rush? Let’s get out of here first. Everything is ours, and you can look at it as long as you want later. Evelyn, that little bitch, suddenly came back today. I suspect she knows something. Let’s hurry.”
Christopher, upon hearing this, focused on driving.
After listening to the entire conversation, James’s mind was filled with Scarlett’s voice.
No wonder… No wonder Christopher had risked losing his medical license to help Scarlett get a new kidney.
Enraged, James erupted, “Bitch, that Scarlett, dare to plot against me.”
“I’m going to kill her!”
James paced the kitchen, grabbed a kitchen knife, and was about to rush out. As he passed by Evelyn, he paused, then abruptly turned around.
“She said you knew something. Evelyn, did you already know she was planning to betray me?”
He demanded an explanation, expecting Evelyn to defend herself. However, to his surprise, she calmly nodded. “Yes.”
“Not only did I know her plan, but I also witnessed her taking away all the property,” Evelyn mocked. “Including the method she used to escape. Do you want to know? I can tell you.”
James was so enraged that his body swayed, and he passed out again.
Evelyn chuckled mockingly, pulling out her phone. “You can come pick me up now.”
Soon, the urgent sound of an engine could be heard outside the villa…
