The butler nodded, his face dark, glaring at the medicine wine in James’s hand. “You’d better keep this kind of thing for yourself.”
Both men stood up angrily, glowering at Evelyn. “Dad, you’ll regret trusting this girl,” James said with contempt.
“Get out!” Zebulon almost shouted with all his might.
After they left, the room finally quieted down, and the butler also left. Zebulon rested for a while before regaining his strength. Trembling, he sat up and reached for a file folder from beside the pillow, handing it to Evelyn. “Take it.”
Evelyn was stunned. Zebulon smiled faintly. “Haven’t you always wanted this?”
Inside the file folder were the inheritance documents worth five hundred million.
Evelyn took it and glanced at it calmly. “Grandpa, I just want to take back what’s mine. Is that wrong?”
“No.” Zebulon paused. “Evelyn, don’t blame me. Everyone has something they want to protect.”
Evelyn understood his explanation. He had turned a blind eye to her suffering over the years just to protect this already shattered family? Now his two most beloved sons had turned against him.
Evelyn took out all the medicine from her bag and placed it in front of Zebulon. “Take two of these pills each day, morning and night, for ten days, and you should feel better.”
“Your body is very weak right now. Let the kitchen make some ginseng soup for you. Take a small amount for nourishment and focus on recuperating.”
Regardless, Zebulon had never harmed her, and after this encounter, his favor towards her gave her some warmth. Moreover, with the clear terms in the contract, she couldn’t obtain it by any means unless he willingly gave it to her.
She walked slowly to the door, Zebulon’s eyes red with tears watching her slender figure. Just as she opened the door, he couldn’t help but call out, “Evelyn.”
“You… will you come back?”
Evelyn turned back, smiled, and replied firmly, “I will. Definitely.”
James was still unresolved, and there were countless enemies like Scarlett. How could she not come back? She had patience; she could wait. But for now, she needed to go deal with Mia…
…
“Would you like to know whose child is in Mia’s belly?” Evelyn dialed Jasper’s number…
Mia sat on the couch watching TV. Evelyn and Jasper walked in together.
“What are you here for?” Mia asked.
“I’m in a good mood and wanted to give you both a special gift,” Evelyn replied.
“What good thing could you possibly have for us?” Mia squeezed Jasper’s hand excitedly. “Don’t listen to her nonsense. Every time I see her, my stomach hurts. Can you just kick her out?”
“Stomach hurting?” Evelyn sneered. “Maybe he remembers me beating up his father while he was still in the womb.”
“What are you talking about, Evelyn? When did you ever have the guts to beat up Jasper?” Mia retorted.
Evelyn raised an eyebrow. “Who his father is, you’re pretty clear, aren’t you?”
“I was actually planning to give you a few more good days, but you didn’t cherish them,” Evelyn said regretfully. She glanced at a message on her phone and gestured for Jasper to open the mansion’s door.
A moment later, Frank wheeled in a box, sighing heavily. “Evelyn, that was exhausting. Next time, please find someone else for these tasks.”
The box in front of him was simple, but the words “DNA Testing” were clearly printed on it. Mia panicked as soon as she saw it.
“What is this? Evelyn, why are you so vicious?” Mia hid behind Jasper. “She’s gone crazy. She wants to harm our child.”
Evelyn gave her a disdainful look. Jasper suddenly moved away with disgust. “Mia, when will your act end?”
“Our child? Ha!” Jasper sneered. “Let’s wait for the results to know for sure.”
Jasper said, finally turning to Frank.
Frank sighed. “It’s pointless. Don’t come to me for this kind of thing again.” It was ridiculous to test for paternity when they already knew the truth.
As Frank approached with a syringe, Mia immediately recoiled. “No, no one can harm my child…”
Before she could finish her sentence, Mia’s mouth and nose were covered, and she was forcibly injected with an inhalation anesthetic, keeping her fully awake but unable to move or speak.
Frank placed Mia on a makeshift operating table, he extracted enough amniotic fluid and then turned to Jasper.
Throughout the process, Mia glared at Evelyn with hatred, as if cursing her for her despicable actions.
Jasper finished giving blood and silently glanced at Evelyn, not seeing her actions as despicable at all. He was impressed by her clever tactics.
“How long until we get the results?” Evelyn asked.
Normally, it would take at least 24 hours.
Frank seemed excited by the topic. “You can thank my latest equipment for this. It speeds up every step of the process. Give me two hours.”
“Alright,” Evelyn nodded, closing her eyes to rest.
…
Finally, there was movement from Frank’s side. He produced the report, printed it out, and handed it to Jasper. “Take a look for yourself.”
Jasper glanced at it, and his expression darkened instantly.
“Jasper.” Mia’s anesthesia wore off, and she sat up. “Is the child ours? I really haven’t done anything wrong to you. You…”
Jasper sneered and threw the report at her. “See for yourself.”
Sample A and sample B did not match genetic patterns. The probability of paternity was 0. 00234…
There was no need to continue reading. Mia was stunned. The child was indeed Adrian’s!
She looked at her swollen belly, tears streaming down uncontrollably. “It’s impossible, they must have made a mistake in the test.”
“Jasper, they’re plotting against me, deliberately trying to frame me. I was completely faithful to you. How could I stoop to serve that disgusting man?”
At this, Evelyn couldn’t help but chuckle softly, exchanging a glance with Frank before standing up. “Some things I won’t bother explaining. Mr. Reid’s family affairs should be dealt with by Mr. Reid yourself.”
With that, they ignored Mia’s curses and left.
Mia still tried to salvage the situation, but Jasper uttered a name.
“You slept with that man in a hotel for three days and nights when you just started college. Do you want to hear the details? Mia, I feel sick thinking about how you pretended to be innocent with me.”
Mia’s face turned pale instantly, her mouth trembling for a while, but she couldn’t utter a word.
“I’ll have the divorce papers sent to you. You don’t need to enter this house again.”
Jasper didn’t want to look at that face that made him sick anymore and left in a huff.
Soon, security guards came in and threw Mia and all her belongings out.
Suddenly, heavy rain poured from the sky. Mia stood in the cold autumn rain, looking utterly disheveled.
She kicked over the nearby trash can in frustration.
“You bitch, Evelyn, you damned bitch.”
She cursed angrily, stepping on the garbage that spilled out of the trash can, and then collapsed to the ground with a loud thud, feeling a sharp pain in her abdomen.
Mia smelled blood, and soon after, she lost consciousness…
…
Scarlett rushed to the hospital and scolded Mia, “How could you be so careless?”
Mia, with red eyes, looked at her accusingly. “Why did you do it?”
“If you hadn’t instigated me to do such things back then, how could I have been victimized by that pervert Adrian? And now I’m pregnant with his child, what am I supposed to do?!”
Scarlett was shocked. “But didn’t you say there was a fifty-fifty chance it could be Jasper’s?”
“No chance anymore. It’s all that bitch Evelyn’s fault,” Mia yelled hysterically. “Mom, they forcefully took my amniotic fluid for a paternity test. The child isn’t Jasper’s.”
“This…” Scarlett was taken aback by the news. “Well, if that’s the case, maybe it’s better not to have the child at all. It’s better than bringing a fatherless child into the world.”
“What are you going to do now?” Scarlett asked, realizing the gravity of the situation. The Reid family…
“The Reid family doesn’t want me anymore,” Mia sobbed. “Jasper had his guards personally kick me out. Otherwise, how could I have ended up falling to the ground like that?”
Scarlett knew that the prestigious Reid family would never accept a daughter-in-law with such a tarnished reputation. Besides, Mia and Jasper’s relationship was built on a lie.
“Mom, I’m finished… I have nothing now, only you…”
