Evelyn walked out of the shooting range. Before getting into the car, Jonathan couldn’t help but speak, “Mistress, it’s just five hundred million. It’s not worth enduring such humiliation.”
“Jonathan, dealing with The Taylor family requires a broader perspective. This little grievance is nothing compared to those five hundred million.” Moreover, she came here not just for the money but to understand why those five hundred million ended up in Zebulon’s hands.
“Take me to the company first,” she added.
…
YR company.
As Evelyn walked towards her office, she noticed that the employees were looking at her with increasingly strange expressions. What was so unusual about her today?
Before she could push open the office door, Yancy and Zane emerged. The expressions on their faces were so grim.
Evelyn frowned, “What happened?”
“Evelyn, you finally came back,” Zane exclaimed angrily, “The headquarters sent a general manager here, and he’s dictating the operation plan for ‘Glory.'”
“What dictating? He’s just talking nonsense. Damn it, disgusting. I’m going to the headquarters to settle the score. It must be Parker’s doing,” Yancy ranted, ready to storm out.
As they were about to leave, a sarcastic voice came from behind, “Openly insulting Minister Donovan, if there’s another time…”
The newly appointed general manager, Winter Wallace, was standing at the doorway. He glanced at Evelyn and then directed his anger towards Yancy.
Yancy, who had never faced such a threat before, was about to explode with anger. He approached Winter, grabbed his collar, and shouted, “Who the hell do you think you are?” With that, he raised his fist high and landed a punch on Winter’s face.
…
Yancy threw a punch with unrestrained force, causing Winter to spit out blood.
“You, ahh…” Winter screamed in pain, taking quite a while to cough up a mouthful of blood. He cast a malevolent glance at Evelyn.
“Are you the director here?”
“Let me tell you, I was personally assigned to this company by Mr. Gavin. You dare to hit me, it’s an affront to Mr. Gavin. If he decides to hold you accountable, you’ll have to face the consequences.”
Gavin? What is this guy up to again?
Evelyn lowered her head and quickly sent a message to Gavin.
Winter, thinking that Evelyn was intimidated, became even more confiden, “When Mr. Gavin sent me, he made it clear that he’s in charge, and anyone who disobeys can be reported to headquarters at any time.”
“Director Taylor, if you don’t want Mr. Gavin to personally handle your case, you better make him apologize to me right now!” Winter roared.
Zane looked at him with a hint of anxiety.
Yancy clenched his fist. If it weren’t for Evelyn’s presence, he would have taught this guy a lesson.
Evelyn only gave Winter a glance before checking Gavin’s response.
Gavin: ‘Miss, your focus is on the research institute, not that run-down company. But considering your current situation, it might take a few months to transfer you to headquarters. Time waits for no one, so I can only send someone down to help you achieve some results.’
Evelyn: ‘So, you’re sending an idiot?’
Gavin: ‘You don’t understand, huh? If I send someone smart, they might steal your credit. I’ve checked, in less than three days, this idiot will definitely mess things up for you. Just smoothly handle this matter, and I’ll be able to pull some strings to get you transferred to headquarters.’
Evelyn: “…”
Only someone with Gavin’s stupid logic could come up with something like this.
She pondered for a moment, unable to resist a sarcastic comment: ‘Grandma shouldn’t have entrusted the position of the institute’s agent to you, idiot.’
Gavin replied: ‘My role as an agent has long been in name only. Those old guys are the backbone of the same era as your grandmother, and their prestige is too high. To help you keep the institute, I’ve been doing my best.’
Evelyn turned off her phone, listening to Winter demanding an apology from Yancy. She casually nodded, “Fine.”
Then she turned to Yancy, “Apologize to him.”
“Why should I?” Yancy protested. “I’ve never apologized to anyone in my life. You can’t expect me to-”
Evelyn spoke expressionlessly, “I happen to have two tickets to the finals of the ‘Kyushu Continent’ mobile game…”
“Apologizing is easy for someone as smart as me,” Yancy exclaimed excitedly, then turned towards Winter and muttered, “Sorry.”
Winter’s mouth twitched. Just as he was about to continue harassing Yancy, Evelyn’s icy gaze swept over him, “Is Manager Wallace satisfied?”
Winter’s discontent was evident, but he quickly stifled it and replied, “Satisfied.”
Evelyn nodded, instructing Zane, “Take Manager Wallace to his office.”
She then pointed to her own desk, “The tickets are in the second drawer.”
Yancy let out a cry and dashed over.
…
In the blink of an eye, seven days passed. Evelyn had Gavin arrange an appointment with doctor Zion. After learning that the doctor had time two hours later, she went ahead to The Taylor family’s mansion.
Upon hearing the news that Grandpa’s gout could be cured, almost everyone, except Mia’s mother, who had been traveling abroad, all rushed back to the mansion.
The family was initially chatting and laughing. When Evelyn entered, all voices suddenly ceased.
Her father, James, cast a disdainful glance at her, “What are you doing here?”
“None of your bussiness.” Evelyn raised an eyebrow, responding coldly.
“You! I am your father. How dare you speak to me like that?” James was about to explode.
Evelyn cast a disdainful glance at him, “I’ve told you, you don’t deserve to be my father.”
At her words, James’s face darkened even more.
Mia hurriedly stepped forward to comfort him.
Uncle Ethan and Aunt Shirley approached Evelyn.
“Evelyn. Don’t bother arguing with him,” Ethan said in an elder’s tone.
Shirley affectionately put her arm around Evelyn’s shoulder, “I know you’re not a heartless person. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have been working so hard for your Grandpa’s medicine.”
Evelyn pursed her lips, remaining silent.
Thinking Evelyn had taken heed of her advice, Shirley couldn’t help but show joy and winked at Mia.
“Evelyn, Mia is your sister. Despite any misunderstandings in the past, you’re still sisters…”
“You see, you managed to find your Grandpa’s doctor, even though it was difficult. Mia is just having trouble with the company funds, and you… you have so many funds. How about…”
“Are you suggesting that I take out the funds left by my grandmother to help Mia with her companyr?”
Seeing Evelyn catch on, Shirley immediately nodded, “It’s not about asking you to take it out. It’s just a temporary loan. She will pay you back later. You can trust her…”
Before she could finish her sentence, Evelyn’s icy gaze silenced her.
“Aunt, I remember that when you got married, your family also provided some funds for you.
Since you’re so compassionate, why not use those funds to help Mia?”
Shirley’s face instantly froze, “Your uncle and I…”
“Uncle has always been fond of Mia, he should be willing to help out,” Evelyn turned to Ethan, “right, Uncle?”
Ethan, pressured by Evelyn’s question, could only reluctantly nod.
“Ethan, what nonsense are you spouting?”
Thinking he was about to agree, Shirley exploded in anger. Just as she was about to vent her anger, they heard movement from upstairs.
Zebulon descended the stairs with the butler at a leisurely pace. Seeing Shirley’s uncouth demeanor, his face darkened immediately.
“What’s going on? Why so much noise?”
Shirley, knowing Zebulon never liked Evelyn, quickly spoke up to complain, “Dad, it’s all because of Evelyn.”
“I just asked her to help Mia get through this difficult time in the company. But she spoke to me in a sarcastic tone, saying things that were really unpleasant.”
Shirley was about to continue her tirade when Zebulon’s expression turned completely black.
“The company belongs to Mia, and if it’s mismanaged, it’s her competence issue. Evelyn is not obligated to help her.”
“Dad…” Shirley objected.
She was about to speak when she saw Zebulon sway and suddenly fall backward, a trace of blood appearing at the corner of his mouth.
“Ah!” The whole family panicked instantly. James and Ethan rushed forward, kneeling beside Zebulon and weeping. The butler immediately went to fetch the family doctor, and the servants carried Zebulon back to his room. The rest of the family quickly followed.
As Evelyn approached the room, Shirley and Mia immediately blocked her way. Shirley, with a tone full of resentment, accused Evelyn, “What are you coming up for? Your Grandpa turned like this after taking your medicine.”
Mia also accused, “Evelyn, why did you harm Grandpa?”
“What are you saying?”
Before Mia could speak, Shirley directly stepped forward and shielded her, “What? You harmed your grandpa, and now you won’t allow others to talk about it?”
“How could our family, The Taylor family, produce such a ungrateful person like you? Your Grandpa has been missing you all this time, and you actually…”
“Actually what?” Evelyn remained expressionless, “Words shouldn’t be thrown around.”
