“Grandpa did faint, but who can prove that he fainted after taking the medicine I brought? Maybe it’s you…”
Evelyn’s words abruptly stopped, her gaze staring at Shirley…
Shirley’s heartbeat accelerated, and she stammered back, “You… you… How could we do such a heinous thing?”
Evelyn sneered, “Your reaction seems a bit too intense.”
Shirley’s face turned pale instantly.
At this moment, rapid footsteps echoed from the end of the corridor. Zebulon’s private doctor, Fabian, quickly approached under the butler’s lead.
Seeing Evelyn, Fabian snorted coldly, “I’ve long advised Mr. Taylor not to consume any unknown medicine, but Mr. Taylor wouldn’t listen. There are so many people in this world who can imitate handwriting…”
For over a decade, Fabian had been treating Zebulon for gout and had developed many new medicines. However, the final results were only temporary relief without a permanent cure. In the past, Fabian had used this excuse to swindle research fees from Zebulon. This time, Evelyn’s intervention had clearly blocked his path.
“Doctor Fabian, let’s go in and check on Mr. Taylor first,” the butler urged.
Fabian drove everyone who was staying inside out.
James and Ethan glared in Evelyn’s direction with hostile expressions. After a while, James couldn’t hold back any longer and spoke with a cold tone, “Evelyn, if this has anything to do with you, I will not let you off.”
“Oh!” Evelyn’s gaze showed disdain, “If it has anything to do with me, what can you do to me?”
Thinking about Henry’s earlier warning, James endured for a while, his face turning red before he managed to squeeze out a sentence, “Those who serve with their bodies will eventually be discarded. Don’t come crying to me when that happens.”
Evelyn chuckled.
Be discarded? Cry?
When she refused to marry Henry, how long did she cry and beg him? He only cared about counting money and never spared her a glance.
She thought of the injuries on her back and laughed indifferently. In the eyes of her so-called father, no matter how severe her injuries, it meant nothing compared to Mia being pricked by a needle.
James exploded in anger, “One day, you will regret what you said today.”
Evelyn coldly glanced at him, “When you turn into a pile of bones, I’ll consider this matter.”
“You… you dare curse me to die?” James immediately widened his eyes, pointing at Evelyn angrily. “I’m telling you, if anything happens to your Grandpa today, you won’t walk out of here alive.”
Suddenly, Fabian walked out, looking at everyone with a serious expression. Ethan asked eagerly, “Doctor Fabian, how is it? Is my father okay?”
James also approached, looking tense. The Taylor family’s current business situation relied on Zebulon’s connections to maintain some small projects. If Zebulon really died, The Taylor family would lose another way out.
Fabian had a basic understanding of Zebulon’s condition, but since Evelyn dared to ruin his intentions, he wouldn’t let this opportunity to deal with her slip away.
“The medication Mr. Taylor took has a problem,” he said, looking at Evelyn with cold eyes, putting away his medical tools, “Since The Taylor family has found an expert, I won’t interfere anymore.”
With that, he just left with his assistant.
The neighborhood where Zebulon lived was quite prosperous. Fabian took his assistant directly to an upscale restaurant, ordering a table full of delicacies.
The assistant was bewildered, “Doctor Fabian, aren’t we supposed to go back to the hospital?” And this table of dishes costs almost thirty thousand, equivalent to half a year’s salary for him. He has been with Doctor Fabian for three years, and never seen him so generous.
Just as he began to suspect if there was some conspiracy, Fabian had already started eating heartily, “What are you standing there for?”
“It is too expensive,” the assistant swallowed nervously.
Fabian sneered, “Look at you, acting like you’ve never seen the world. Just eat, someone else is paying the bill.”
The assistant, observing Fabian’s confident demeanor, “Doctor Fabian, are you saying that The Taylor family will come and pay for this?”
Fabian raised an eyebrow and called a waiter to order a bottle of red wine. “Rest assured, not only will they come and pay, but they’ll also beg us to go back.”
The Taylor family
After Fabian left…
Mia: “What should we do now? Grandpa’s illness can’t be delayed.”
Ethan and James exchanged glances, “What else can we do? Find another doctor or directly take him to the hospital.”
“No way, Dad hates hospitals the most,” Shirley objected first. Then, looking at Evelyn, she continued with a sarcastic tone, “Didn’t someone say she knows some medical experts? Now, why not invite someone over to take a look?”
As everyone’s gaze turned towards Evelyn, Mia pretended to defuse the situation with a smile, “Aunt, don’t make it difficult for Evelyn. Besides, someone like Doctor Zion can’t be invited casually…”
Before Mia could finish her sentence, the sound of running footsteps echoed in the corridor.
A servant, appearing flustered, stood before them, panting, “He… he just arrived.”
Ethan’s expression turned serious, “Who has arrived? Can’t they see my father is seriously ill? If they’re not important, send them away,” James said dismissively.
The servant thought for a moment and said, “He said he is Doctor Zion, here to see Miss Evelyn.”
“Who did you say?”
The servant repeated, “Zion… Doctor Zion.”
As they spoke, someone had already ascended the stairs.
The servant, looked down the corridor at the man who was in a white coat, “It’s him.”
Upon hearing this, everyone turned their gaze.
James and Ethan were momentarily stunned.
Mia had never seen Doctor Zion, but the man’s demeanor gave her a bad feeling.
The most significant reaction came from the butler, who had been searching for Doctor Zion with Zebulon for three years. Although he had only seen a vague image of him in a previous interview, meeting him in person allowed the butler to recognize him immediately.
“Miss Evelyn, is it really…” The butler was so excited that he choked on his words.
Seeing his reaction, Shirley, thinking that Evelyn had brought in a fake Doctor Zion, eagerly approached.
“To what extent can you go, Evelyn? What are you plotting?” Shirley accused.
“Security, get this person out of here.”
The security guards waiting below rushed up, ready to apprehend Doctor Zion. However, the butler suddenly spoke, “All of you, get out.”
Seeing the usually silent butler explode like this, everyone stepped back in fear.
Shirley pointed her finger arrogantly at the butler, “What’s going on? What has Evelyn offered you? Butler, my father has trusted you the most over the years. What are you doing now? Are you turning a blind eye to wrongdoing? Just because you want to curry favor? Doctor Fabian just said it was my father’s medicine that had a problem. Butler, think carefully about what you should do.”
Her sharp words instantly darkened the butler’s face.
The butler whispered to Evelyn, “Miss Evelyn, please take Doctor Zion to see Mr. Taylor.” Then, he took out his phone and found the previous interview.
“Whether it’s real or fake, see for yourself.”
Shirley took the phone, “I’ll see for myself. I don’t believe a fake can turn into… something real!”
In the interview, Doctor Zion turned around, and although the face was somewhat blurry, the facial features were identical to the person from earlier.
“How… how is this possible?” Shirley’s eyes were filled with disbelief.
Mia, witnessing the scene, also clenched her fists tightly. After returning home that day, she had specifically investigated Doctor Zion’s identity. Renowned globally as a medical master with extraordinary skills, he was considered a life-saving expert. However, he had retired several years ago and was known to be reclusive, even scheduling meetings with his own children days in advance. So, she never thought Evelyn could actually find Doctor Zion. But now… she gritted her teeth fiercely, her mind racing.
At this moment, the door to Zebulon’s room suddenly opened. Evelyn and Doctor Zion walked out.
“He person has woken up. As long as he takes good care of himself afterward, there shouldn’t be any issues with his health,” Doctor Zion said, while jotting down a prescription on the spot and noting the contraindications.
Seeing him about to leave, Shirley stepped forward to inquire.
“Another doctor just mentioned it. My father vomited blood and fainted, all related to the previous prescription. Doctor Zion, may I ask if your previous prescription had any problems? Or perhaps, has someone tampered with this prescription?” she asked, casting a meaningful glance at Evelyn.
Doctor Zion didn’t say much in response to Shirley’s words. He only nodded at Evelyn and said, “If there’s nothing else, see you.”
Evelyn signaled to the butler to see Doctor Zion off. Shirley, unsatisfied, was about to speak, but was silenced by Evelyn’s icy gaze.
Evelyn glanced at her expressionlessly and said, “If you have something to say, come in and talk to Grandfather yourself.”
Shirley was left dumbfounded. “What… He has already awakened?”
