Thinking he was upset, the owner continued, “If you two don’t believe it, you can take a look at Miss Evelyn’s results.”
Yulianna scoffed, “Just one hole…”
At that moment, several more staff members walked in, each holding a target with perfect scores. No matter which one was taken out, it could easily outshine Mia.
Yulianna sneered, “Even if you cheat, at least cheat better. Are you trying to say these results belong to Evelyn?”
As she spoke, a staff member handed over a phone showing the surveillance footage of Room 2. It was taken from a side angle. Evelyn, dressed in black, stood confidently on the shooting platform. She adjusted herself for just two seconds before swiftly firing. Although it was a simple action, it was bold, elegant, and full of vigor.
In an instant, Evelyn’s image attracted everyone’s attention.
“Wow… This shooting stance is simply blowing up my heart.”
“Who said Evelyn can’t shoot? Just based on this demeanor, she’s already outclassing Mia. No, it’s enough to outshine those professionals.”
“Ugh, I want to slap myself. I take back what I said earlier.”
Listening to these discussions, Mia felt an overwhelming sense of resentment.
Yulianna shrugged, whispering in a low voice, “Even if she shot those, so what? It doesn’t change the fact that in the competition against Mia, she only hit one shot.”
The owner smiled and presented another video clip. This footage was from the surveillance cameras placed between the shooter and the target. When played in slow motion, the trajectory of the bullets could be observed.
The first clip showcased Mia’s entire shooting process. Although conventional, hitting all bullseyes garnered nods of approval from the surrounding crowd.
Turning to Evelyn’s side, the owner instructed to slow down the video even further. The first bullet took a considerable amount of time to traverse the screen, piercing through the bullseye and disappearing into the darkness.
As the second bullet penetrated the sole existing bullet hole on the target, everyone’s expressions turned from admiration to shock.
Subsequently, the third… fourth… sixth bullet followed suit until all ten bullets effortlessly passed through the exact same spot on the target. The onlookers’ faces were now filled with awe.
What kind of divine skill was this?
Ten bullets, one hole-how much practice did it take to achieve such precision?
“What kind of sorcery is this?”
“I’m almost jealous. When will I have one-fifth, no, one-tenth… one-hundredth of this skill?”
“No wonder Evelyn confidently took the Oakridge Haven key. It’s not arrogance; it’s just some people misunderstood.”
The discussions grew louder, and Mia slowly emerged from her initial shock.
How was this possible?
Evelyn, the one who used to be terrified at the sight of guns just a few months ago, now…
As Mia gathered her thoughts, she noticed Jasper had been staring at Evelyn the entire time. His complex gaze contained amazement, joy, and conflict, yet lacked the trace of disgust he showed earlier.
tugged at Jasper’s sleeve.
Jasper frowned, seemingly displeased at being interrupted. When he lowered his head and saw Mia, he finally snapped out of it. Softly, he asked, “What’s wrong?”
Mia bit her lip, “I misunderstood her. I’ll go apologize.”
Approaching Evelyn, she said, “Evelyn, I didn’t mean to misunderstand you. I just really like that house, and I acted impulsively…”
Glancing at Zebulon, Mia continued, “Originally, I intended to give it to Grandpa. But it’s okay now, you can present it, and it’ll be the same. Grandpa will be very happy.”
With Mia’s last words, her eyes were filled with a sense of satisfaction. Whatever she couldn’t have, that wretched Evelyn wouldn’t be allowed to take away.
Upon hearing this, Zebulon, who had initially wanted to criticize Mia’s impulsiveness, found himself unable to utter reproachful words. Instead, he turned his hopeful gaze towards Evelyn.
Evelyn sneered, “Mia, what nonsense are you talking about?”
“Evelyn!” Mia exclaimed, “Did I say something wrong? I’m sorry. I know the house isn’t mine, and I shouldn’t have made decisions. If you don’t want to give it to Grandpa, you don’t have to. Next time, I’ll definitely give Grandpa an even better one when I have the chance.”
As Mia spoke, Zebulon’s expression darkened, and those who had praised Evelyn’s skills just moments ago now wore disdainful looks.
Mia, seeing the reactions, felt a surge of excitement. If only Evelyn could explicitly refuse…
That five hundred million had to be hers. Evelyn couldn’t take a single cent.
Everyone seemed to be anticipating Evelyn’s response.
Evelyn, with a hint of coquetry in her tone, said, “Grandpa, I really don’t intend to give you this house.”
Upon hearing this, Zebulon’s face grew even darker.
People on the sidelines couldn’t help but comment.
“Her shooting skills are indeed impressive, but her character…”
“She can’t bear to part with even one house, but Mr. Taylor has been considering her feelings all along.”
“I thought Mia was being too petty, fighting for a house so desperately. Turns out she’s doing it out of filial piety.”
Amidst the rising and falling discussions, Zebulon’s complexion became increasingly grim. Evelyn’s recent behavior undoubtedly left him feeling somewhat embarrassed.
Mia approached with a look of self-blame, “It’s all because Mia isn’t as skilled. Grandpa, although Oakridge Haven’s house is rare, you still have Jasper. Once the company’s difficulties pass, I’ll find a way to get you the best scenic house.”
Zebulon looked pleased, turning to the butler. “Since Mia is facing difficulties, help her out later.”
Hearing this, Mia instantly thought of the five hundred million, her eyes gleaming with anticipation. Just when she thought her dreams were about to come true, Evelyn walked over, casting a cold glance at her, “Mia, what kind of schemes are you plotting?”
“Evelyn, what are you talking about?”
“You know that Grandpa suffers from severe gout. Every time the weather changes or it rains, his legs are uncomfortable. And yet, you want to give him a house by the seaside. Are you trying to murder him or something?” Evelyn sneered, then continued, “In the past, you only used to ask Grandpa for things, and now suddenly you want to give him a house, Mia, what are you after?”
Evelyn’s words instantly awakened Zebulon. He remembered Mia constantly mentioning the company’s losses recently…
Mia hurriedly explained, “No, I didn’t mean that. I just… I just forgot for a moment.”
“Forgot?” Evelyn’s tone grew stern. “Seems like you never really cared.”
Mia squinted, her face full of resentment, and questioned, “If you care about Grandpa so much, why haven’t you come home for so long?”
Jasper stepped forward and embraced Mia, the anger in his eyes reigniting, “At least Mia still has Grandpa in her heart. What about you?”
In the presence of all, Evelyn’s figure suddenly stiffened. Slowly turning around, she looked at Zebulon with guilty eyes. “Grandpa, during this time, I’ve been too busy.”
“But I think it’s worth it.” Evelyn took out a folded piece of paper from her pocket, “This is a prescription prepared by Doctor Zion for you, to improve rheumatism and gout symptoms.”
“You said… who?” Zebulon’s eyes were filled with astonishment. He took the paper, recognizing Doctor Zion’s handwriting which he had seen on a research paper before.
The familiar strokes met his eyes, and Zebulon’s trembling hands revealed his excitement. Doctor Zion was a giant in the medical field, and the prescription he gave could be considered a life-saving remedy. Zebulon had been searching through various channels for three years but failed to get in touch with Doctor Zion. How did Evelyn manage to obtain the prescription?
Without answering Zebulon’s question, Evelyn spoke softly, “Take this prescription for seven days first. Doctor Zion promised me that after these seven days, he will personally treat you.”
“Doctor Zion has been looking for a seaside house as a place to relax at any time. So, Grandpa, I’m really sorry, but I can’t give you this house.”
Her face was full of apology. After speaking, she glanced at Zebulon with a hint of grievance and walked away directly.
Zebulon watched her lonely and slender figure, feeling a deep ache in his heart. The child had been running around for him to find medical help, and he… he actually harbored doubts about her…
“Everyone, let’s call it a day,” Zebulon spoke with a low voice.
The butler immediately dispersed the crowd.
Mia was reluctant to leave and approached Zebulon. “Grandpa, I really didn’t…”
“Leave me alone,” He interrupted, not even sparing Mia a glance this time.
Mia was furious, but staying would only make matters worse. Her intentions were too obvious, and Zebulon might grow even more displeased.
In the empty shooting range, Zebulon looked at the shooting stand where Evelyn had been. He sighed, “Butler, did I make a mistake earlier?”
“Miss Mia did act a bit hastily today.”
This also showed his affirmation of Evelyn.
“Let’s put the matter of the will on hold for now.”
The butler nodded, “Yes, I’ll clarify things with the lawyer.”
