“So it’s finally come to this,” Larry said, still chuckling amusedly.
Lenard knew the evil deeds of his son, but to see with his own eyes, the twisted expression his son was making… He couldn’t believe his eyes.
“When did you get this far? Oh, Larry…” Lenard muttered, tears appearing in his eyes.
“Oh, spare me the tears, old man.” Larry said, shrugging off the sad look he received from his father.
“Do you not realize what you did?! The disaster you’re bringing upon our Pack? Why, Larry?! This Pack has been your home for so long. Do you really want to see it all disappear?” Lenard asked with an angry tone.
“Of course! You have no idea how long I’ve wished for that!” Larry responded, raising his voice to suppress Lenard’s.
The fiery look in Larry’s eyes quieted the old man as he watched in horror.
“You know it quite well, father. The powerless feeling we have as Omegas. How we watch the powerful and talented run everything while we’re left with nothing but menial jobs. Did it not frustrate you even once?” Larry said, narrowing to his eyes.
“Of course not! Everyone has a role! Do you not understand! Someone has to do it. There is no lesser role in the pack! Larry, you-”
“Shut up!” Larry said in rage, glaring at his father.
“Who decided that? Why does it have to be us, Omegas? Is there no way to rotate it? Do we have to maintain the ‘status quo’? Have you ever asked yourself these questions?” Larry rushed.
“Of course, I have. But Larry-” Lenard tried to defend.
“Oh, I’m sure you have. After all, you’re a smart one. To be able to decipher many of my actions. But, this is what I’ve always hated about you, old man! Even though you have such intellect and wits… You waste them all the time being a mere lumberman!” Larry said, still seething with rage, staring at his father with disgust.
“You didn’t always feel this way, Larry. You were content at one point… You were happy. What changed?” Lenard asked, now rising from the couch as he stood face to face with his son.
“I got sick of it! I got so sick of everything… Until I finally awakened. The moon goddess and original progenitor must have heard the inner wailing within me as I endured the torment of being subjected into a role I never desired, being too weak to choose otherwise.”
“But it’s not compulsory to possess a Role… If you were not satisfied, you could always leave-”
“I don’t want to! Why do I have to leave for refusing to accept a role? I’m not the one who’s wrong, the whole pack is. But, I intend to fix that very soon” Larry smiled.
“Larry, when will you snap out of your childish delusions, Larry? Grow up! You don’t control everything, you never have!” Lenard warned, drawing closer to his son.
“Oh, but I do… Using the ‘gift’ I received from the moon goddess, I can literally see it all. The variables, the constants. As long as I know the thoughts of everyone, I will always manipulate them to do my bidding! You’re no exception, old man.” Larry smiled.
“D-Don’t tell me… You awakened an Art?!” Lenard said in shock.
Larry’s grin grew wider as he nodded.
“But that’s impossible. That is an exclusive blessing only granted to the Alphas and Lunas of the Pack, passed down to their descendants.” Lenard yelled, finding it hard to believe Larry’s words.
“That’s exactly right. That can only mean one thing…”
“I am destined to be Alpha! I have been chosen by fate, by the moon goddess herself! I am the right ruler of the Pack!” Larry declared, laughing maniacally.
Lenard trembled at the maddening sight of his son, so drunk on his power and philosophy that he failed to see the other possibility.
“No, Larry. You have it all wrong. Larry, you-”
“I don’t want to hear any of it. Your thoughts are so repulsive that I instinctively block myself from hearing it. That’s why this came as a slight surprise. But, it wasn’t entirely unprecedented.” Larry said, moving closer to his father.
Lenard took steps backward as Larry approached him. He knew better than to try struggling against a wielder of a Werewolf Art.
“You see, I already planned for situations like this too. It’s a shame though, I had hoped it wouldn’t happen this early. I truly wanted you to see the kind of kingdom I would build…” Larry grinned.
“Larry, please stop. Don’t… You can’t do this. Is this really how you intend to change everything? Through violence and malevolence?” Lenard protested, frightened by his son’s advance.
“Why not? Violence has always been the way of our kind. Haven’t you been curious as to how the original Werewolves were able to procreate, especially after the humans killed their mother and scattered their family? Do you think it was anything magical like finding true love or coming into an understanding with humans? Pathetic!” Larry smiled evilly.
“Rape. Pillaging. Destruction… Our founding fathers conquered the human women and used them to procreate. That is the true history of our kind!”
Lenard croaked upon hearing those words from Larry, crashing to the ground in his attempt to further retreat.
As his buttocks hit the hard wooden floor, Lenard winced, quickly gazing upon his son who stood above him with a dominant stare.
“You know too much, making you a loose end. So it’s only natural you’re eliminated” Larry said.
“You… You’re too far gone! But you’re too late, Larry. I already healed up Perry, and told him everything I told you just now. He knows everything!” Lenard revealed.
“You mean…” Larry muttered.
“Yes. He’s currently on his way to Lord Dax, and once everything has been revealed, it’ll all be over. Your grand conquest ends here, Larry!” Lenard gritted his teeth as he spoke.
Even if Larry killed him here, as long as Perry delivered the message, Larry would no longer be safe. Even if they couldn’t prove most of his atrocities, Lenard’s death would be enough to pin it all on Larry.
“It’s over… You lost!” Lenard said in a struggling tone.
Larry’s body shook, trembling upon hearing what his father said.
“Old man, you… You did that…?” He mumbled.
“You really are… Such a fool!” Larry burst out laughing.
His loud voice filled the room, driving Lenard into a state of confusion.
“I’m surprised you didn’t figure that out too, since you’re so smart, father. But… Perry is also one of US!” Larry revealed, drawing his grinning face toward Lenard.
“N-No… He… You poisoned him. He didn’t…” Lenard stuttered in disbelief.
“Oh, that I did. But he was aware of everything. Unlike you, old fool… We Omegas are sick of our place in the status quo. That’s why, it’s time for a takeover.”
“N-No…” Lenard squeaked, tears pouring out of his eyes.
“Unnecessary baggage like you are irrelevant in the new pack I will create” Larry grinned.
It was finally time to say goodbye to his father. He knew of his deep seated hatred for his father, but somehow he felt a tinge of pain within him.
He would miss Lenard.
“I’ve come too far to turn back now!”
With that final thought, he concluded the act.
As Lenard’s son murdered him, he couldn’t help but cry in regret and pain as his blood stopped circulating and his sense of self drifted away.
“Larry… Do you not understand…? The moon goddess didn’t give you this power for that reason… It was for… For…”
Unable to complete his thoughts, Lenard passed away, strangled to death by his only child.
“Huu… That was harder than I thought, taking my first life” Larry mumbled as he stared at his father’s lifeless body.
The pangs of pain and guilt ate at him, but he brushed them aside, as though swatting a pesky fly. He did not regret his actions, they were necessary.
All to achieve his goal.
“I don’t care what you think, old man. I will be Alpha… I will be KING!”
