Beatrice immediately rushed Quiver to the nearest hospital. Her heart is pounding and beating so fast like she will have a heart attack. Beatrice is very nervous and starts thinking negative thoughts. She waited outside the emergency room for almost 3 hours when the doctor left the room.
“Doc, how is he?” Beatrice immediately asked the doctor. The doctor looks at her and smiles bitterly.
“What is your relationship to the patient?” The doctor asked. Beatrice swallowed first before she answered his question.
“I am his wife.” She said the doctor didn’t know if he would tell the truth to her or not, as Quiver told him not to tell his wife about his condition. The doctor is concerned about the patient, so he chooses to talk to her even though Quiver told him not to.
“Ma’am, I think your husband is hiding something from you.” He said so Beatrice frowned because of what he said.
“What do you mean?” She asked and looked at the doctor severely. The doctor took a deep breath and signaled her to follow him. Beatrice followed the doctor until they went to it’s office. Beatrice watched the doctor get some papers on his table before she sat on the chair.
“What do you mean he is hiding something from me?” Beatrice asked, so the doctor looked at her and went to sit in front of her.
“Your husband told me not to tell you about his condition, but I’m a little skeptical since I know you have the right to know what is happening to him, especially since he is your husband.” The doctor said and waved the file in the air.
“This is his papers, his records from his previous check-up here in our hospital. He’s been my patient since last year.” He added and put down the file in the mini table.
Beatrice frowned because of what the doctor said. She had no idea what he was trying to say, but her heart had been beating fast.
“What do you mean ‘patient since last year?’ “She asked the doctor so the doctor took a deep breath and opened the file before her.
“Quiver, the first consultation was last November. He is with Rayver.” The doctor said, so Beatrice suddenly stopped as the doctor said Rayver’s name.
“They went here because Mr. Quiver had the same scenario, just like what happened today. The Rayver guy rushed him here because Quiver has been bleeding during that time.” The doctor said and turned to the next page.
“This is what we diagnosed to him upon checking his condition. All of the symptoms are visible to him, and as we test his blood, we confirm that he has stage 3 blood cancer, and during that time, the cancer cells are treatable.” The doctor said, so Beatrice’s mind went blank because of what she heard.
She couldn’t think straight because of what she learned at this moment. She couldn’t believe that Quiver had this disease, and he even hid it from her. Beatrice’s tears formed in her eyes until they fell.
“I advised him to take medication and undergo chemotherapy, but he did not attend any session during the past 5 months.” The doctor said and turned to the next page.
“Until he went here last May for a check-up again. That time, he decided to undergo medication, but Quiver told me that his time was limited only because he said to you that he would go for a one-month business trip.” The doctor said so, and Beatrice couldn’t help but cry, knowing that Quiver wanted to hide his situation from her.
“After that, he didn’t attend any therapy again until he went her last two months for another session. I asked him why he didn’t attend another session, and Quiver told me that you and he are getting married that time, and he can’t mess around and create some alibi to cancel the wedding.” The doctor said again, so Beatrice held her mouth and stopped any sound coming to her mouth while crying.
“I will be straightforward with you now, Ma’am: your husband’s medication didn’t affect him at all because his cancer cell is slowly spreading in his body, and if we tried to treat him again, this time, his body might surrender.” The doctor said so. Beatrice shook her head as she couldn’t believe this was happening.
This is what exactly happened to her dream last night.
“The best solution to at least ease the pain he’s suffering is to give him some medications and pain reliever.” The doctor said.
“Can you still treat him? I-I know that you can treat him… please save him.” Beatrice said, so the doctor took a deep breath and looked into her eyes.
“I can’t promise anything to you, ma’am, but we will do our best to treat your husband.” The doctor said, so Beatrice nodded. She cried in front of the doctor as she couldn’t stop herself anymore.
She is hurt by the fact that Quiver hid it from her, and she couldn’t do anything to save him and help him ease the pain when she didn’t know his situation.
After a few minutes, Beatrice left the doctor’s office. Her brain couldn’t function as she couldn’t accept that Quiver was facing a tough fight. She wanted to be mad at him but couldn’t do it this time because what matters most is to treat him.
“Beatrice.” Beatrice slowly turns to look at the one who called her name, Rayver, who is standing behind him. Beatrice remembered what the doctor told her earlier.
“Rayver knew about his condition yet didn’t do anything to tell this to me,” Beatrice said in her mind and slapped Rayver.
“You know what is his situation, yet you still choose to hide it from me?! What kind of person are you?!” Beatrice asked and burst into tears.
“You should just have told me about this from the very first place, Rayver. We could treat him soon if you just tell this to me!” Beatrice shouted, and some other people turned their heads in their direction.
Rayver chooses to be silent and listen to her rants. He knew that she was hurting right now.
“Why didn’t you tell this to me, Rayver?” Beatrice asked and cried in front of him.
“Because Quiver told me not to,” Rayver answered.
“Then you shouldn’t listen to him and tell everything to me, Rayver.” She said and wiped her tears.
“I… I don’t know what to do if I lost him.” Beatrice said. Quiver became her only listener and the only one who always believed in her. Quiver made her realize so many things and made her value every moment she was with him. Now that Quiver’s life is in danger because of his illness, she fears losing him anytime.
Beatrice suddenly stops as she realizes something. She looks at Rayver and steps back.
“What are you doing here?” She asked the moment she realized that Rayver shouldn’t be here. Rayver didn’t answer her; instead, he went beside and from his back, Beatrice saw Nate, who was listening to them and looking at her right now.
“Nate…”
