The sun was high up in the sky and the autumn weather was balmy. Olivia put on a white knitted shirt and went downstairs; Lucas was reading newspapers while holding a cup of coffee. Both of them had a slight argument last night. Olivia stood before him with hesitance and greeted him softly, “Good morning…”
Lucas did not glance at her. She gritted her teeth and continued, “It’s my fault last night, I’ve thought of what you said, and you’re right. If I have a child, I should be responsible to him, I shouldn’t let him live just to fulfill my wish…”
Lucas only then looked up, yet his expression did not change, “Come and have your breakfast.” Although he did not sound stern, Olivia still felt something was wrong. She could not remember why, and could only sit opposite to him to eat.
After finishing breakfast, Lucas was going to go to work. He adjusted his necktie while saying to Olivia, “Your father is going to have a gathering with my father at my house today, you can go have a look.” Olivia’s eyes gleamed. She had not seen her father for a long time.
“Would you go too?” she asked cautiously. Lucas was busy with his work and he might not have time. For a family gathering like that, it would be already too much if he could go there three times out of ten. As expected, Lucas shook his head, “No, I have a meeting at night.” Even though she had already known his answer, she still felt a little disappointed. Without caring about that any longer, she nodded docilely and accompanied him to the entrance.
Dr. Turner brought a couple of famous doctors over to examine her in the morning. Olivia was a little scared and she made a phone call to Lucas, but he did not pick it up, “Mrs. Foster, it’s okay, it’s just a regular checkup. We will construct a treatment plan for you according to your condition after we go back, and we’ll contact you and Mr. Foster after that.”
Olivia still had trust in Dr. Turner. She nodded and cooperated with the doctors’ examination, “Mrs. Foster, according to your body checkup report yesterday, although the cancer’s at terminal stage, your body shows good recovery state, and there’s still hope if you’re willing to take treatments!”
“We hope you could have faith on it first.” Dr. Turner adjusted his glasses and said with a serious look. He knew what kind of life was Olivia living with the Foster family, and he knew she was not strong actually, that was why he advised her that.
Olivia nodded. Who wouldn’t want to live? She had finally seen the hope of being together with Lucas, how would she bear to give up and leave? As long as there was chance, she had to at least fight for it. After sending the doctors away, Olivia was tired. She pondered for a while and wanted to convey the doctors’ words to Lucas. She then made another phone call to Lucas, but he still did not pick it up.
Olivia was slightly worried. She felt extremely uneasy deep down, as if something had been keeping on bothering her. She looked at the time and speculated that Lucas had not had lunch. She then cooked some dishes and intended to deliver the food herself. She supposed he would not get angry. She was only missing him a bit, and she wanted to tell him what the doctors had told her.
She drove to the Foster Tower. This time, the front desk did not stop her, yet their eyes still evaded her, and there was even sympathy in their eyes. Olivia took the lunchbox and felt apprehensive. She could not help but remember what she saw from Lucas’s office back then.
It couldn’t be. She kept on repeating those words in her heart. Didn’t Lucas already treat her much more nicely yesterday? He would not do things that betrayed her. As for the past, she already buried them down the bottom of her heart and she refused to mention it again. As long as she could stay by Lucas’s side, she would be able to act as an ostrich, pretending she was ignorant.
As for the feeling of heartache…she had already gone numb to it.
