Olivia pushed him away with her face flushed, “No.” Lucas touched her forehead with his, “Why?” They were inhaling each other’s odor and under such subtle atmosphere, he did not think Olivia would reject him at all. Yet Olivia did. She looked into his eyes and said with a sorrowful look, “I…I don’t want to take contraceptive pills.”
She did not want to take the pills and vanquish their relationship after doing the business. She felt that she was not strong enough to withstand such heartbreaking feeling. She stared at Lucas, there was an aggrieved and also stubborn look on her face, “I want to give birth to your child.”
Lucas frowned, “I can’t have kids now, not to mention you.” Olivia’s health condition was very obvious. Her possibility to live would be even lower if she was pregnant. He would not let her die for a child who had not yet existed.
Olivia grabbed his hand tightly with an assertive look, “Lucas, I know my own condition. I can’t live long, please let me give birth to your child, then even if I die, you’ll still remember me.” If a child who shared their genes had existed in this world, Lucas might still think of her whenever he saw the child.
Olivia smiled and looked at him with hope. Yet Lucas rejected without hesitance, “What do you think a child is?” He tossed her hands away with an icy look, “You have to raise the child after you deliver it, or else don’t deliver it in the first place! A mother who doesn’t care about the child’s future life like you doesn’t deserve to have a child!”
Olivia did not expect him to become that angry. She opened her mouth and wanted to explain but Lucas refused to listen to her. He got up and walked away. He then stopped beside the door for a while and said unnaturally, “I’ll sleep in the study room!”
Olivia was once again left in the huge room alone. She sat silently at the edge of the bed and only lowered her head in a daze after her limbs went cold. She was truly an idiot. Although they had become that close, she was still pushed away by him in the end.

Olivia still lingered in Lucas’s mind when he returned to the study room. He had had certain understanding of the woman in just one day. She was having a pessimistic attitude towards her own health and life. She did not take the initiative to seek treatment and her desire to live was not high. Although she was still living, she looked like she had already made plans after she died. Yet she had some kind of morbid stubbornness towards him.
Lucas was never a soft-hearted person yet he was always anxious when he faced her. He was angry of her pessimism yet he had nothing to do about it. He pondered while holding his forehead for a long while until the ringing of his phone alerted him, “Hello?”
“Lucas, take Olivia and come home tomorrow, your father-in-law is going to have a meal here tomorrow and we plan to have a gathering.” The person making the call was indeed Manfred Foster, Lucas’s father. Lucas pulled down his face and spoke coldly to his own father, “Why, what else do you want the Cooper family do for you now?”
Manfred snapped, “What do you mean? Didn’t I do those all for you? Lance is smarter than you, that’s why he has more job and less time. Do you know how many connections he has made? If you still don’t work harder, do you want someone else to replace you as the heir of the Foster family?”
“I’m not happy of your performance in the banquet last time! Olivia is the daughter of the Cooper family, and her father is the mayor, as long as you manage to please her, how would Lance dare to compete with you?”
“Enough!” Lucas interrupted his father’s words with rage, “I’m not you! I don’t have to use women to get to that position!”
“How could you talk to me like that?”
Lucas sneered, “Father, I’ll say it one more time, don’t you have any thoughts on Olivia.” Without waiting for Manfred to reply, he hung up and stared at the paper before him with a profound look. That was indeed somewhat unusual. He had actually talked back to his father for Olivia. Although his relationship with his father was not good, he had never defended for Olivia in such a way in front of Manfred before.
Could it be, he had fallen in love with Olivia? He rebutted that thought as soon as it appeared. How would he fall in love with such a foolish woman like her? He pulled his hair and his eyes became somber. He was just pitying her, because she was a dying person, and that was it!
