Olivia sat along the corridor of the hospital in her white knitted coat. Lucas was listening to her diagnosis in the doctor’s office. Even though she had known her own condition, Lucas still refused to inform her about that. The patient might lose confidence in getting treatment if she knew her real health condition. That was what Dr. Turner said, and he remembered it.
Olivia swung her legs in boredom and spotted a shadow on the floor. She looked up and saw Lance smiling at her, “What a coincidence!” That was true since they actually encountered each other at the hospital. Olivia got up and greeted him, “Why are you here? Are you feeling unwell?”
Lance glimpsed around and without seeing Lucas, he said, “My friend is doing a body checkup here, and I’m here to keep him company.” It was the best body checkup centre in town and it was quite normal to see him there. Olivia nodded and did not feel suspicious at all.
“Where’s Lucas?” Lance asked. Olivia pointed at the office door and said, “He’s right inside.”
…
Lucas’s mind went blank for a moment as he looked at the doctor before him. He immediately reacted and asked calmly, “How much hope do we have if we start the treatment now?” The doctor sighed, “There would still be some if she undertakes vigorous treatment.”
Lucas rubbed his forehead and his head ached very much. He never thought Olivia would die. Yet he was facing that now. What should he do? The doctor glanced at him and said softly, “We’ve suggested Miss Cooper to undertake treatment before, but she declined.”
If the patient herself refused to accept treatment, it was pointless no matter how skilled he was. Thinking back what Olivia had said before, Lucas’s heart leapt and he nodded, “I get it.” No matter what thought he had in mind, the most important thing was to stop Olivia from dying.
…
Olivia was not close to Lance and she did not know what to say. Yet Lance seemed to be intrigued by her and he kept on talking to her. As Olivia was starting to become impatient, Lucas finally got out. Olivia subconsciously heaved a sigh of relief. She walked towards him and said, “I met Lance here by accident.” Lucas frowned, “What did you call him?”
“Huh?” Olivia never expected that to be the first question he asked. She pondered and did not find anything unusual in her words. After all he was a relative; it would be weird to address him as Mr. Foster. Lance chuckled, “It’s just a way of addressing, why do you even want to feel jealous of that?” Olivia looked towards Lucas. He was feeling jealous?
Lucas snorted, “She’s your sister-in-law, mind your words.” He extended his hand and held Olivia’s wrist. Without mentioning what the doctor had said, he was ready to leave while taking her along. Lance shoved his hands into his pockets. His eyes gleamed as he watched them leave, and he still followed after them, “Lucas, sister-in-law, what are you doing here at the hospital? Are you feeling unwell, Lucas?” If Lucas was the one feeling unwell, could he possibly take the opportunity to seize part of the company’s right?
Yet as soon as the thought popped up in his mind, Lucas seemed to be able to read his mind and sneered, “Then what are you doing here?” Lance repeated what he had told Olivia before yet Lucas was not that easy-going as Olivia. He snorted, “Keep those little thoughts of yours in your mind, or else don’t blame me for not being nice to you.”
After finished, he left while pulling Olivia. Lance did not chase after them this time. Olivia looked at his hand which was holding hers and asked softly, “Don’t you like him?” Although she was not quite clear of what they said just now, she could still tell that both of them did not get along well. Although they were family, there was hostility in their words.
Lucas pushed her into the car and there was a serious look on his face, “Stay away from him.” Those were the only words he wanted to say to her. Olivia was enjoying her moment with him, and she was unwilling to provoke him. She lowered her head and did not say a word. The inner space of the car was so quiet that there was only the sound of Lucas driving.
Lucas had been keeping a somber look since just now. He was wrinkling his eyebrows with a brooding look, which made Olivia who had been peeking at him became more anxious. Had he gotten angry? Just because she had talked to Lance? But she only did that because he was his relative! Olivia felt aggrieved. She pursed her lips and did not say a word.
Seeing her pale face and apprehensive look, Lucas thought she was feeling unwell and he rumbled, “Are you feeling unwell? Let’s go back to the hospital!” After finished, he turned the steering wheel and was ready to head back. Olivia quickly explained, “No, I’m fine!”
“Fine?” Lucas glanced at her and could not hide the anger on his face, “You think it’s fine to have terminal-stage lymphoma? The possibility of getting cured is that low. Olivia, have you ever thought what would happen to those alive after you die?”
