Olivia had been wondering how Lucas would treat her if he knew she was ill back then. Would he sympathize with her and treat her nicely? Yet when Lucas said he wanted her to die back then, her hope was completely crushed. Therefore when he asked her what happened after she died, she actually had no idea what to say.
If she was dead, he would be free. Won’t it be great? Yet she felt aggrieved. She had loved him for so long, yet the one who stayed with him until the end was not her. Olivia turned her head sideways, pretending she was looking at the scenery outside the window, yet the rim of her eyes started to become red. Lucas did not see her cry, he only thought she was just reluctant to continue the topic of conversation, and he could not help but feel angry.
“Why did you refuse to get treatment?” Thinking that she had a poor health, that was the only question he asked. Olivia spoke softly, “I can’t get cured anyway…”
“Who said you can’t be cured?” Lucas could not bear to see her despondent look. He gritted his teeth and said, “I’ve asked the doctor, he said you can!” Olivia shook her head and looked at him. Her eyes were limpid from tears, “But the chances are too low, plus, I don’t want to spend the rest of my time at the hospital.”
“Lucas, stop worrying of me. I’m fine, really. I’m already grateful to be able to talk to you like this.” She smiled. Yes, to her, she was already content to be able to talk to him calmly. Lucas’s heart ached, “Then have you thought of your parents? What would happen to them if they knew about this?”
Mom and dad…Olivia spoke while enduring the agony she felt, “They’ll be fine, they will…” Time would gradually relieve their sadness. They still had other children, and everything would slowly be alright. Lucas slapped the steering wheel. He puffed and was enraged, “Olivia, stop lying to yourself!”
“I don’t care for what are you giving up on getting treatment, as long as I’m by your side, you can’t give up!” he said while keeping a straight face. Olivia was startled for a while, and she buried her face in her palms, “Lucas…it’s too late. I’m dying!”
There was exhaustion and fear in her voice. All those things that had happened recently almost drove her crazy. How would she not want to live? Yet in her heart, she knew the chances of her living were too low, and she was never a lucky person. Lucas closed his eyes and said assertively, “No, it’s not. I’ll get you the best doctor…”
“Lucas, why do you care about me living or dying anyway? Didn’t you want me to die?” Olivia glanced at him with a strange look. Lucas seemed to have changed a little. He seemed to care about her feelings more and more and he did not lose his temper easily. He even wanted her to live. She frowned and asked with hesitance, “Are you…pitying me?” That’s sympathy, right?
Lucas could see the cautiousness in her eyes without looking up, and he felt his chest tight, “No matter who that is, I’ll definitely save her!” Even he could not believe his own words. How could he be such a busybody? Yet he did not dare to dive into his real thought. He always had a feeling that the answer he got would turn his future life upside down.
Yet Olivia believed his words. A disappointed look flashed across her face and she did not utter a word. Both of them did not say anything until reaching home. Lucas wanted to head towards the study room and Olivia stood behind him, watching him. He frowned and turned around, “Anything wrong?” Olivia spoke softly, “Could you sleep with me in the bedroom from today onwards?”
