Lucas never thought he would be so panic and apprehensive one day. Olivia was still in a coma. He sat next to her and searched for information about lymphoma with his phone while looking at her. —Under normal treatment, lifespan could be extended from five to ten years, or maybe longer. Part of the highly malicious tumor is susceptible to radio- and chemotherapy. After reasonable treatment, there would be significant prolongation of lifespan.
His heart sank as he looked through the information. The possibility of completely curing the disease was too low; most of the treatments could only prolong lifespan, which was at most for only ten years. How old would Olivia only be ten years later?
Lucas turned his head sideways and gazed at Olivia who was deeply asleep with mixed feelings. He used to hate that girl, although he still did not like her now…No, maybe he did have some good impressions of her. After all, that girl had loved him with all her heart.
He extended his fingers and touched her face. Her face was warm and she did not look like someone who was about to die at all. It was rare for Lucas to regret his actions. If he had known that she would die, should he treat her better?
As his mind was jumbled up with thoughts, Olivia suddenly opened her eyes. She looked at him in a daze and murmured, “Am I…dreaming?” If not, why would she see him the moment she opened her eyes? Lucas frowned, “You’re not.” He retrieved his hand and stared at her with a meaningful look until she became nervous from his stare.
Olivia looked down, pondered and explained, “I wasn’t going to kill myself, I was only falling asleep.” The last thing she remembered was she had fallen asleep in the bathtub. She thought she had scared him and made him thought she was going to commit suicide. The corner of her lips twitched and she let out a wry smile, “Lucas, do you hate me?”
Lucas did not know how to answer. His face froze and he did not utter a word. His feelings towards her were extremely complicated. He used to hate the fact that her existence would make him feel like he was useless. He used to feel that she was extremely annoying and everything she did had a purpose. But now, he slightly realized it was not true. The feeling was too complicated that he did not know where to start. Therefore he chose to keep quiet.
Yet Olivia took his silence as a yes and her face became paler and paler, “I…really do like you.” She bit her lip and her voice was utmost soft, just like how abased she was in confessing her feelings to him. Lucas inexplicably felt a little poignant, but also delighted.
He was going to say something, but he saw her looking up with tears. She looked at him and said clearly, “So, if my existence has upset you, let’s divorce then.” Olivia never thought she would say those words herself. Yet she did not feel as sad as she imagined when she said that. It could be she had already been used to such heartbreaking moments after going through it so many times.
Lucas looked at her. The tears on her face were conspicuous. Her eyes were limpid and were brimmed with sadness and despair, and also assertion. He turned his head sideways in a hurry to avoid looking at her, “Olivia, what do you think a marriage is? You’re the one who asked to get married and divorced, what kind of person do you think I am?”
He gritted his teeth and retorted. He then shot a fierce glare towards the woman who looked weak, but was actually tough inside, “I won’t agree to that.” Although he was never a good guy, he would never abandon his wife at this moment. He covered her nicely with the blanket and said calmly, “I’ll accompany you to the hospital for a checkup tomorrow, as for the divorce, you can forget about it!”
