Chapter 7: Was It Pleasant to Ears?

Olivia woke up to an immense pain.
Her whole body was throbbing with some numbing sensation. She stroked her forehead and found that it was scorching hot.
Olivia continued to lie there with her eyes shut. The pain was really great, and because of the old man’s party, the maids were off on holiday. She was all alone in the huge house.
With no other choice left, she called Lucas. Olivia still held on to her last ray of hope, hoping that
Lucas would show her some sympathy perhaps.
“Lucas, it’s me. My head is so painful…”
“Why are you looking for me for that?”
From the other end of the phone, a woman’s voice sounded. It was a familiar one which made Olivia remember the woman in Lucas’ office. She instantly felt her heart harden as she mustered every last bit of her strength, “Who are you? Where is Lucas?”
It was very late now. Why was some woman picking up a call meant for Lucas?
“Who am I? Ms. Cooper, we have just met yesterday. As to why his phone is in my hands, shouldn’t that be obvious to you?”
“The time is getting late now, of course it means that Lucas is sleeping with me now!”
Olivia listened to that woman giggling at the other end, but her heart was dipped in a world of pain.
She tightened her grip on the phone and used up all of her strength to say the next words, “Give this to Lucas! I want to speak to him!”
She wanted Lucas to affirm that he was now together with Isabella.
She wanted Lucas to smash her last bits of expectations in her heart.
There was a brief silence at the other end of the phone, and in the next second, there was an ambiguous sound made by a man and a woman. Their moans were mixed together, but Olivia was feeling that her heart was getting numb.
She listened to that woman’s smug voice, “Didn’t you want to her it? How was it, was it nice to hear?”
Olivia let go of her phone while in a daze, and she was suddenly at a total loss.
Why… was she still alive? She should… just drop dead.
After all, nobody was sympathetic and feeling sorry for her.
She widened her eyes in the direction of the ceiling, and her tears couldn’t stop dropping.
The phone call was cut unbeknownst to her, and the screen was glowing indeterminately. It was the only source of light in the otherwise jet black room.

Lucas watched Isabella ending the phone call and he rubbed his eyes looking obviously exhausted, “Don’t do that again.”
Isabella was wearing a bright red one-piece dress. She shoved the phone to Lucas and sat a little distance away from him. Lucas was never a fan of someone getting too close to him for comfort.
She was a very understanding woman in front of Lucas.
“What are you referring to? Are you talking about us being together or us moaning on the bed and making her misunderstand?”
She propped up her face as she stared intently at Lucas. Her lips were a glistening red, “Mr. Foster, you are the one who used to tell me to do whatever it takes to make sure Ms. Cooper believe that we are dating for real. Everything possible, just to let her bring up the divorce by herself!”
Lucas’ expression hardened and his gaze directed at her was a little chilly, “I don’t like people who think they are too smart.”
Isabella stopped smiling and muttered a response under her breath.
Lucas then averted his gaze and asked faintly,, “How are things with Lance?”
“Still the same, not moving much. Although he looks gentle, but he is not easy to approach.”
Lucas’ gaze wandered to his phone subconsciously, “I see. You can go now.”
Isabella looked like she still had something else to say, but judging from Lucas’ expression, she ended up saying nothing. She exited the office just like that.
By the time there was only the sound of Lucas’ breathing in the office, he dialled a number.
“Check for me at home. If there is a woman who is really sick, send her to the hospital.”
“However, don’t let her know that I am the one ordering this. That’s all.”
