The atmosphere in the car was odd.
Olivia bit her lips as she glanced warily at the man next to her.
His eyes were closed as if he was in a meditative state, but a menacing aura was exuded from his body. Olivia recalled her medical report inside her bag, and suddenly a strange feeling assaulted her nose, making her almost blurting out that truth she so wanted to hide.
She opened her mouth, but the words “I’m dying.” Didn’t appear from her mouth.
If she revealed that, it would probably mean her departure from this man’s life.
She looked at the man with a bitter smile. His brows, his breaths and every nook and cranny aroused something in her.
“Olivia.”
Unexpectedly, the man broke the silence first.
He opened his eyes, and there was a glint in his otherwise pitch black eyes.
“You are still my wife in name. Even if you want to find the next man, you must wait until we are properly divorced before you begin another relationship. Don’t be so impatient, it will make you look ugly.”
The tone of his voice was clam but the meaning of his words hit Olivia hard like a sledgehammer.
How laughable and deplorable was she in his heart?
Olivia just looked at him with her mouth half-open. The only words that came out of it were her disagreement with his previous statement.
Lucas never set his gaze on her, not even once. He only believed in himself.
“It is unacceptable for adultery to happen in the Foster family, especially between brother and sister-in-laws. You like Lance, I get it, but you can do whatever you want after we separate.”
Olivia finally registered in her mind what he was saying. Ignoring the pain in her heart, she hurriedly explained, “You have misunderstood me. I don’t have that kind of relationship going on with Lance, he was just being polite…”
Lucas laughed coldly, “I never saw Lance being so polite towards other girls, though. Olivia, I am not in the least bit interested in your affair, but please don’t pull the Foster family name through the mud.”
In the end, he never showed any genuine concern for her.
Lucas glanced at her pale face and said impatiently, “Next time, please make sure you are presentable enough before going to any occasion. You look so forlorn and down, are you making that face to tell on grandpa?”
“That’s not it…”
“That’s all you are capable of!” Lucas snorted and closed his eyes dismissively. He didn’t seem to want to continue this conversation.
Olivia suddenly felt exhausted.
She had made sure she was obedient in front of grandpa, and she had showed some face to their relatives for his sake, but in his eyes, he had interpreted everything she did as having her own motives.
When they reached home, Olivia stepped out of the car, but she saw that Lucas was still sitting inside. With anxiety gripping her, she grabbed the car window while asking, “Aren’t you coming home today?”
Lucas laughed mockingly, “Why, is Ms. Cooper feeling lonely tonight and needing my service?”
Olivia had so much to say but nothing came out from her mouth. She just gaped at Lucas, but Lucas was irritated and irked by her staring like that, so he then rolled up the window.
Olivia grabbed hard at the car window while Lucas’ face gradually disappeared from her sight. She gnashed her teeth and said gravely, “Lucas, I am going to die!”
The car window stopped ascending, and Lucas was looking at her with an incomprehensible expression, “Olivia, are you crazy?”
“I am not!” Olivia shook her head violently while she retold what the doctor had told her, “I have contracted lymphoma, and the doctor said that it is highly improbably that I will survive this. I have one more year at most!”
Therefore, even if all of this was an act, she wished that he would continue this farce for at least another year!
Olivia stared attentively at Lucas in order not to miss any transformation on his face. However, Lucas maintained her aloof and emotionless expression as he turned away from her, “Olivia, if you are going to die, then just go to die.”
If she was going to die, then she should just die.
Olivia watched the car with a frozen expression until it disappeared in the distance. She couldn’t move away from the spot on the ground, and only when her face was tingling with something cold that she realized she was crying.
It was utter despair to hear from someone you love so much to curse you to death.
