Chapter 5: I Am Doing Good

Book:Tell me you love me Published:2024-5-28

The next time Olivia saw Lucas, it was during the family birthday party.
He was wearing a pleasing piece of suit, and his face was filled with gentle smiles as he socialized with people all around. Nobody could resist him, but this fact made Olivia feel more anguished. His gentleness and kindness were never shown towards her ever since they got married.
“Lance.” She suppressed the bitterness in her heart as she moved forward. No matter what, they couldn’t leave anything to chance in this kind of public occasion, or else there would be no meaning to her marriage with him.
As expected, Lucas didn’t publicly show his displeasure, and although there was an unnoticeable shift in his expression which was a notch colder, he still let her wrap her arms around his.
Old Master Foster saw them coming to him together, and it put a smile on his face, “Olivia, you are here? Come, come to grandpa!”
There were a circle of people around him, but they now parted to allow this couple to approach. They were all praising them for looking like a match made in heaven.
Old Master Foster’s gaze shifted from Lucas to Olivia, and he couldn’t help frowning, “Olivia, why do you always look so white? Are you feeling any discomfort?”
Olivia’s fingers trembled a little, “That’s not… I am doing fine, grandpa.”
How could she tell him the truth?
There’s no way she could reveal that she was dying, and make the atmosphere sour in this happy occasion. She couldn’t let her grandpa feel sad for her.
“Maybe… I am having flu lately. I will be fine.” She plastered a smile on her face to hide her true feelings.
Lucas felt something unusual in the way she carried herself, but he didn’t want to care about that. He frowned impatiently, and it was caught by Old Master Foster, which enraged him.
“What is that attitude?” Old Master Foster was as headstrong and rude as usual, and he wouldn’t mind the occasion when he wanted to reprimand his grandson. He slammed the table and roared, “Lucas, look at you now! You don’t even show any care towards your wife. How can I be at ease in passing the helm of the company to you in the future?”
All the others present raised their eyebrows when they heard this.
Lucas, on the other hand, just let out a cold laugh, “If I can get my hands on the Foster Corporation just by taking good care of a woman, then I am afraid that I won’t be able to do that!”
Lucas didn’t care about losing something if it meant he had to rely on woman to get it!
“You still dare to argue?” Old Master Foster looked like he was in pain due to his intense anger, and Olivia immediately stepped forward to console him, “Grandpa, Lucas does not mean what he said. He just wants you to acknowledge him by using his own ability!”
Lance who was next to them came to check out his grandfather worriedly, “Grandpa, don’t be angry. Lucas did not mean to make you furious!”
At the same time, Lucas who did not respond to the scuffle looked strangely out of place here.
Lucas’ father nudged him a few times but that didn’t make Lucas make a move. There was a sarcastic expression on his face, as if what had just unfolded in front of his eyes was nothing but a staged play.
Old Master Foster cursed loudly at Lucas. All the participants of the party exchanged meaningful glances and from the smile on their faces, it was as if they could tell that the heir to the family was still up in the air.

After coming out of the party, Olivia touched her arms. She felt she was touching something cold.
A sweater appeared in front of her, and she turned around in shock only to see that it was Lance who was standing behind her, extending the sweater.
“Sister-in-law, it’s cold out here. You should wear this.” Lance didn’t seem to be bothered by his own gesture. He looked natural and at ease, and after some deliberation, Olivia accepted the sweater and thanked him, “Thank you, but I don’t need it.”
Lance wasn’t the pushy kind as he gentlemanly put some distance between them. He said, “Sister-in-law, you need to take good care of your body. If… Lucas bullies you, you can go look for grandpa.”
He sounded concern about Olivia’s situation as he suggested something to overcome her difficulties.
Olivia nodded, and before she could say anything in return, her arm was grabbed by a sudden force.
Lucas appeared out of the blue net to her, and it was apparent that he didn’t make any effort to conceal the disgust on his face.
“Lucas…”
Olivia feared that he would misunderstand, but Lucas didn’t say anything as he dragged her into the car. Lance watched their shrinking backs with a smile forming on his lips.
