A few hours later, she opened her eyes again to see that the room was brightly illuminated, and not only that, she realized that she wasn’t alone with King Zed anymore.
There were three other persons in the room with them.
Serena jerked and sat upon the bed. Even King Zed was no longer on the bed. He was sitting shirtless behind his big desk.
The three persons present in the room were; the King’s Beta, granny Felicia and an older man with a strong wolf’s aura Serena couldn’t recognize.
They weren’t initially looking her way, but her movement probed them to turn in her direction.
Serena blinked severally at them, confused. She didn’t know what to do or how to act.
She kept blinking back at the three of them, confused. King Zed was also probed to look in her direction when he noticed that the people he was conversing with were no longer with him.
When he noticed what was going on, he turned back to the three people in the room who had surprise written all over their faces.
It was as if they saw Serena for the first time, but that was far from the case. They couldn’t believe that King Zed let Serena spend the night on his bed. Like, it was happening.
It’s happening this fast?? Beta Adam couldn’t help but wonder.
The ice in his heart is really melting for real. Granny Felicia thought.
Woah, the king has a woman that warms his bed. That’s surprising. I thought he hated women. The older man there thought to himself.
“What are you doing? Why aren’t you listening to me? Do you want to be punished?!” King Zed snapped at the three of them.
They quickly turned back to King Zed. None of them wanted the King’s wrath to fall on them.
The older man cleared his voice and continued speaking from where he had paused.
“Um.. so my king, I’ve checked your condition, and there is no cause for alarm…”
Serena was relieved that the King had helped her. She slowly crawled down from the bed and started heading for the main door. She intended to run out and probably return later to get her punishment for leaving without the King’s approval.
She slowly got to the door and started opening it.
“And where the hell do you think you’re going? Did I permit you to leave?” King Zed questioned, not staring in her direction.
Serena stilled at the spot, wondering if the King’s question was directed at her, but when she saw Beta, Adam turned to look in her direction, she realized that he was indeed speaking to her.
“I apologize, your Highness. I didn’t want to disturb your meeting with them. I’m sorry.” She apologized.
“Go back to the bed. You will not leave unless I say so.” King Zed ordered with a firm voice.
Shivers ran down Serena’s spine at that. She gulped down her spit.
“Yes, Your Highness.” She responded. With her head low, she walked back to the bed and sat on it, making sure the others won’t be able to see her face.
She was damn embarrassed.
“So, you say that I’m okay, Austin?” King Zed groaned out to the older man there.
“Yes, Your Highness. I can assure you that. You are too strong and young to be sick. You are our King. You need rest, only rest, and you’re good to go.” The older man, Austin, answered and gave a small laugh.
“Very well, Austin. You may leave now,” King Zed dismissed him.
“Felicia,” King Zed called.
“Yes, Your Highness.” Granny Felicia answered.
“Have the maids that formally prepare my meal do it from today.” He instructed.
“Y.. yes, yes, your Highness.” Granny Felicia responded.
She didn’t understand the reason for the King’s sudden change of heart.
“You can leave, now,” He said.
Granny Felicia gave a low bow before vacating the king’s chambers.
“Adam, you heard what Austin said. I won’t be able to go to the company. You and Elena will be doing all the work there from now on. You can also sign a contract that requires my signature. I won’t be disturbed at all in the coming week.
” Yes, Your Highness,” Beta Adam said.
“You’ll also be escorting Serena to the company today as well,” he added. “You remember what we discussed before now, don’t you?” King Zed asked.
“Yes, Your Highness. I remember everything.” Confirmed Beta Adam.
“You can leave, now,” He dismissed.
Beta Adam bowed slightly before exiting the King’s chambers. Outside, he met granny Felicia who was still strolling. Her bones were old.
Beta Adam caught up with granny Felicia and walked with her.
“You didn’t tell me that the relationship between Serena and the king has improved this much. You didn’t tell me that they now sleep in the same room and on the same bed!” Granny Felicia exclaimed.
“I’m also surprised myself. I honestly didn’t know that Serena slept on the same bed with him last night. She had slept in his room before, but then she wasn’t conscious, and he didn’t lie down beside her.
But now, this one is different. I could tell that both of them enjoy each other’s company,” Beta Adam sighed.
“It’s a good thing, Adam. It’s a good thing. After so many years, the ice in him is melting away. It is surely melting. It’s good for him and us all.” Granny Felicia smiled and informed.
Back to the king’s chambers.
“You…” King Zed paused his words. He lifted his head to look at Serena.
Serena quickly stood up and to stand in front of him.
“Your Highness, I’m so sorry. Please forgive me for trying to go out without your permission,” She apologized and immediately bowed.
“Stand.” King Zed ordered. She rose and stood on her feet.
“Today, you’ll be going to the company. Adam will go with you, and you’re expected to learn. You are expected to learn everything going on in there, don’t disappoint me,” King Zed informed.
“I won’t, Your Highness,” she promised.
“You are dismissed. You can leave now.”
Serena took two steps back but paused.
“Your Highness,” she called, probing King Zed to lift his head to look at her.
“Your.. your health, I don’t…”
“I’m okay. My doctor said I’m okay.” King Zed interrupted, knowing what she wanted to ask.
Serena smiled a little before proceeding out of the king’s chambers. She was so happy.
She couldn’t explain the reason for her own happiness. But she knows that she is thrilled.
She got down to her room and sat on the bed. She closed her eyes and smiled more brightly.
Today is going to be a happy day, she thought, but when the pictures of what happened earlier in King Zed’s room popped back into her head, the sweet smiles on her face disappeared.
How on earth am I going to face them from now on? And Beta Adam is supposed to take me to King Zed’s company.
Just then, a knock came on her door.
“Miss Serena, I was told by Beta Adam to remind you about the company. He said you should get ready to go out in an hour.” The informant delivered and left.
Serena took a deep breath. She fell flat on the bed.
That’s the problem. What am I supposed to do when I see you? I don’t think I can face you. I’m too embarrassed. She cried to herself.
Her phone vibrated from the table, and she sat up to grab the phone.
She saw a text from Isaac to call her. She immediately dialed his line. He picked up at the first ring.
“What have you been up to, S? Have been expecting you to call me.” Isaac inquired from the other end.
“Isaac, that’s not my problem right now. I need a solution to my problem. What should I do?” Serena feigned crying.
“Okay, what is wrong? What happened?” Isaac asked worriedly.
“Beta Adam, granny Felicia, and King Zed’s doctor found me lying on the king’s bed this morning. What am I supposed to do? How am I supposed to face them and King Zed instructed me to follow Beta Adam to his empire. We should be on our way an hour from now,” Serena cried.
“Wait.. what? They met you in King Zed’s bed, and you’re worried about bumping into them later on. Is that what you should be worried about right now? What if King Zed finds out you lied on his bed without his permission. Even with his permission, how on earth will you lie on a King’s bed?!” Isaac screamed at her.
Serena stilled at what he said.
*He doesn’t know* kept ringing inside her head.
“Serena, answer me!” Isaac scolded.
“Well, it just happened. King Zed fell sick last night, and I happened to be with him so… so I stayed and took care of him. I swear it wasn’t my intention to lie on his bed. It was just what he ordered. He ordered, and I followed his orders, but the problem is that I overslept and didn’t even know when it was morning. Because of that, granny Felicia, Beta Adam, and the king’s doctor met me lying on his bed. I got too embarrassed and wanted to run out but failed. What do you advise I do to avoid them, Isaac? I really need your help here.” Serena explained and cried.
From the other end, Isaac swallowed down the saliva that had gathered up in his mouth. He inhaled and exhaled out in relief.
“Moon goddess! That really happened? King Zed allowed you to sleep on his bed. Did he touch you? Oh gosh! He might have done that while you were asleep. I mean, that will be the only reasonable reason he allowed you to sleep on his bed, right? Moon goddess! You shouldn’t have agreed to sleep on the same bed with the King!.”
“He didn’t touch me, Isaac.” Serena refuted his claims.
“He didn’t? How do you know that?” Isaac asked.
“Because I’m still untouched. You think I won’t know if I become lost. Nothing of such happened. The King isn’t like that, Isaac. Stop thinking like that about him, or I’ll get angry with you. He is not a pervert. He is not a bad man. He is a very good and kind-hearted person who just likes acting cold because he is the King. He just wants people to be afraid of him and accord him some respect. He is not as bad as you think he is, so stop thinking like that about him!” Serena warned.
At the other end, Isaac had to bring down the phone to see whether it was really Serena that he was speaking with.
He couldn’t believe his ears. He couldn’t believe that Serena was the one defending the King like that.
What has gotten into her? Did king Zed do something to her brain? That can’t be my sister! He thought.
“Serena,” he called softly.
“Yes!” Serena shouted out her reply.
“Can.. can I see you? I need to make sure that you are okay… I mean not to make sure that you are okay but to make sure that Serena is still Serena… I mean I just want to see you because I miss you really badly. You mentioned before that Beta Adam would take you to the king’s company in an hour. I’ll see you there then. You don’t have to avoid Beta Adam. You need to follow him to bring you to me. You really need some check-up… I mean, you really need to see the outside world and, of course – me. Bye till then.” Isaac said and, without waiting for a reply, ended the call.
He kept staring at his phone in awe.
Something’s wrong. I can sense it. I need to see my sister. He thought and rushed into his room to change his wears.
