Chapter 29: DYLAN’S DEFENCE

Book:Mated To A Vampire Published:2024-6-4

“You’ll be safe, just come over.” A woman winks at me in the dark as I shudder bumping backwards into Dylan.
“Who was that?” Dylan retorts, helping me up.
“I don’t know.” I say, and Sophia steps further. “Hey Sophia! Careful.”
“I said you’ll be fine.” An agitating voice erupts from the backs, and they face the object at once as though they’d planned it earlier. They bend their backs as their eyes squint to inspect the intruder.
“Who…” Dylan stutters, regaining his position. “Who are you?”
The object appears with its tongue sticking out but not as a fang. He looks more like a monkey than he looks like a wolf or Vampire.
“Why are you here by this time?” A slender lady asks as she approaches us, and we can clearly see her face now. Oh oops she just shifted to a human? My face wrinkle as I inadvertently point at her while muffling words to Dylan.
“I’m the leader of the Red Wolf Gang. Nice meeting you.” She says, plastering on a smirk.
“Is this a set-up or what?” The Vamp-wolf retorts, asking.
“No, it actually isn’t.” She says, smiling broadly. “Come on, little girl, you’ll be needed.”
My eyeballs increase at that last statement. Needed?
“Needed?” I say, and she nods, muttering in the affirmative.
“Yes, needed. She will be strong, and be the leader of our gang.”
“Gang? Or Pack?” Dylan retorts. We all have regained our strength now.
“Gang. Oh, so you don’t know?” She says, trying to sit as we sit too. On the wet grasses. “Red gang members are responsible for the death of traitors, and for scaring people to death.” She expantiates.
“Actually by shouting them till they give up.” She folds her arms when she notices our surprise especially mine.
“So, would you be interested in joining our pack?” She asks, shrugging.
“We don’t have enough information about your pack.” The Vamp-wolf retorts.
“We don’t know if it’s all a setup.” Sophia adds.
“I suppose you find out then.” She rises up and leaves the place.
“Release him to them.” She clips, waving her hands to a beast which soon comes approaching.
“Oh no.” I say, and Sophia clutches onto her friend. Greg? Damn asleep. We jerk him awake, and we take creepy steps backwards.
“Release who?” I ask. She faces back and now she’s shifted into a monster.
“Jude.” She replies in her beast form and it was as loud as ever.
“Alpha Jude! Take control.” She bows her head as Jude walks into the scene majestically. I don’t know the term fit to describe my shock. All I can do is grasp Sophia as Greg grasps the Vamp-wolf while Dylan stands alone, and in front.
“Who is it again? Dylan?” Jude smirks as he catwalks towards us.
“Isabella, return to your pack or you all die. Right here.” He fumes as he says. “We have no time.”
I look at Dylan who just turned to look at me. Greg gulps, nodding as the Vamp-wolf nods. They mutter few words to themselves as they creep behind us. Jude notices, and smirks as he winks at them. My eyes see them sideways as they throw their heads backwards, giving their wolf their body. The wolf takes control noiselessly and Sophia gives a ‘whoa’ to that. Before Alpha Jude can rant on, they are nowhere to be found. I look up and discover a tail swirling quickly in the air as a note drops downwards. Sophia picks it up before it even lands on the ground as she wraps it up in her palms.
“I’ll give you a minute to think it over.” Jude sharply says, and I give a frown. Dylan places his left hand on his forehead as swear trickles down his nose down to his jaw, seeping into his shirt. I sigh, and adjust my position. Mind you, we have been standing since Jude approached. The stupid hecking stranger who lied that she was from a red somewhat pack flies into the air, and soon disappears.
Dylan. Sophia. Me. Jude. Four of us are sitting on the wet grasses now. Jude seems impatient as he gazes at me then up at the sky every now and then.
“Oh moon goddess, thank you for giving me my mate back once again.” He clasps his hands, and demonstrates it to the sky. As though he’s in conversation with real someone.
“Jude.” Dylan calls out.
“Oh, that’s curt. I’m an Alpha.” He sharply retorts.
“That’s none of my business. Afterall, you’re not a good Alpha as you’ve not found your mate.”
“Shhh! I have found her.” He shuts his lips in view of lecturing Dylan to do the same. “She’s right here.”
“I don’t want to order my members to pick you up into the pack coz…” He says as his eyeballs glow into dark green ones. “Coz we get invited. We don’t intrude.”
“Then why are you intruding right now? Vampires don’t visit one unless they are invited. And that signifies death.” Sophia says as though she reads it from a book, and that gets Jude into his wolverine attachment.
“Because she’s my lawful mate.” Jude returns to his normal being and replies.
“A minute is up.” He splutters.
“You all are going to die.” He brings out a gun, and points it to Dad. Dad suddenly starts laughing. Here we go again with his maniacal type of laughter. I and Sophia stare at him then up at the sky, indecisive of what to do, and shocked with a little scared and blank of how and why Dylan is laughing. Not even at gunpoint. Oh maybe he can shift. I can’t shift because I’m not pretty glad neither am I damn hurt. Sophia can’t shift until she turns 18. Only Dylan can shift for now.
I pick up a paper, and a pen. It’s strange but exciting to find them in this wilderness. I write few words as Jude tries to snatch it from me. I retort: “At least, let me write a wishlist before I go with you.” He returns his hand and grasps the gun tighter as he smirks, sending threatening glares at Sophia. I write few words, mumbling and sobbing as I do. Once I finish writing it, I hand it over to Sophia and she drools, taking it and then to her pockets. I clutch her to me as I hug her tightly repeating you’ll be fine.
“Isabella, don’t tell me you’re doing this!” Dylan howls but I rise up.
“Dylan, I have to. You can’t just die like this.” I mumble, and sob.
“No!” He affirms, raising up a fist.”I’ll defend you to the end.” He says as he throws his head backwards giving his wolf the control. Jude smirks at him, and drops the gun on the ground. He knows that it can’t hurt Dylan’s wolf (Duke) and he know that Dylan will heal all of us should we get shot. Jude tries to escape but he holds back his feet as he mumbles the word ‘I can’t accept defeat.’
At once, he hides an inch from us and shifts. I can only hear the sounds. Sophia is still clutching onto me but the tightly now is performed by her. He shifts, and comes out in his ugly Vamp form. His Vampire form. I and Sophia take few steps back as Duke approaches Jude’s Vampire.
We hide under a swirling leaf and other leaves rustle as Sophia has her arms spread across my necks protectively.
Then the Vampire and Werewolf start to fight.
