Sophia’s POV
Beams of screams escape Jude’s lips as frees his fang that sticks out, pointing fiercely at Dylan. We move a bit back, and mum clutches into me. Tears pool in mum’s eyes as we sight Dylan wincing pain after getting three sudden fang approaches. My eyes are as dry as deserts. Her furrowed forehead joins together and straightens up to a normal look after discovering that Dylan has risen up and is defeating Jude. Jude whimpers as he struggles to slide out under him. Duke doesn’t agree. Yes, it’s Duke! Duke raises Jude’s skulls and hit it on pebbles stuck into a flowing river. Dad’s wolf, Dylan, looks back at us and simplifies his aggressive face.
‘Let’s hurry out of here.’ I tell mom, and she hesitantly nods. I hold her hand as we both turn our backs to leave, dad’s wolf whimpers and growls at us, gesticulating with his mouth. It’s really going to be a tough argument. The surrounding blares with whimpering, snapping and crunching of bones and howls. Before we take a different route to escape, I take a gander at the fight and Jude is prevailing. Mum tries to look back but I cover her eyes with my left palm and we both run down the alley. Through a different route. Not knowing where to escape to. We halt at once on sighting fire armies marching down unto us. The footsteps making loud thuds can be clearly heard as I sigh while mum does too.
‘What do we do?’ I whisper to mum’s ear but she doesn’t give a damn answer. She doesn’t sigh nor did eh mutter a word. But suddenly!
She yells at me and before I can say Isabella Dylan, she’s sent me to the ground, shivering as possible. She swipes through my hair as he hit me on the marble ground. Again, mum with her scary actions and me with me special being. Blood never gushes out of my hand, it only gives tint of blood. I try to defend myself but mum lies her whole being down on me. Flatly. As she clutches my arms into hers, repeating that for all other parts of my body, we get completely glued to each other. She then rolls her head, and as she does, my head goes rolling downwards too. It is now I notice that we are going on a downward slope. She rolls down and the slope takes control as it hits our bodies on several objects, accelerating instinctively. Clouds of dust gather up in the air and it takes time to settle. Me and mum are still rolling downwards, it is such a far journey. All at once, I hear water splash. Mum landing inside caused the sound and there I follow. Inside the water. Thank goodness Cate of blessed memory had taught me how to swim. Mum knows how to swim well. She refuses to teach me how, claiming I shouldn’t go to the beach or any rivers because I have not found my mate. The water makes bubbles as mum’s hair loosens and frees itself into the ocean. I sight blue type water but to say a word is the most difficult thing now as water gather and fill all the holes in my body. Uncovered ones. Mum spews out the water seriously rushing into her system and lungs as I twitch my legs, raising up my hand to grab hold of the bank. But I cant. Mum lets loose of her body as she drives upward with an unknown impulse. I catch hold of her legs and drag her into the ocean again. She drives upwards again, and before I can repeat what I did, her legs forcefully hit my head. I sink inside the water and graduates into the fish level. I see fishes of different kinds squirming towards me. They are little breeds, I’ll scrunch them and kill them. Oh, they can’t die if they are still inside water? But I’ll give it a try. As one approached, I swat it sideward and it flushes away. Three approaches and I do the same. Then a whale appears.
My eyeballs bulge at the sight of the whale as it squirms in the water, heading to grab me. The nearer it comes, the bigger it seems. And it finally settled on my head. It opens his mouth wide and the next thing is to swallow me up. My werewolf power! Where art thou?! Clocking eighteen is in the next six months now. I’ve missed classes. Real bad. I have to repeat this session again. No, not repeat. I’ll just resume and complete the Half year; Afterall, I’m not a dullard. Once the shark’s mouth opens wide and advances at me, a hand drives me upwards. In less than a second, I’m found floating. I can see myself inside a canoe, floating. I yawn, opening my eyes. Still red. Did I sleep just now? I squint my eyes to make my vision clearer but it only gets blur. Fortunately, mum calls my name, and I regain consciousness at onc.
“Mum?” I reply, my eyes wide open.
“Oh my goodness. Daughter.” She pouts her lips, coming towards me. I remember how she dumped me inside the river while she saved herself. I guess she wasn’t aware that I tried to get saved through her too, or she went out to find a solution.
“Yes, it’s me, Mum.” I reply, twitching my feet. “How did I get here?”
“You. We. Drowned.” Mum clips as she approaches me with plates of hot jambalaya.
“Here. Let’s have this. Take your worries off of you.” She says without facing me but I pick one of the plates unused as I translate hot jambalaya in the pot into it. My first bite, my first taste. I spit out immediately, coughing hardly. Seems it’s gotten into my lungs, did it forget it should be my stomach instead?
“Alright, thank you mum.” I thank her. “But where did you get these from?”
“I know you’ll ask. I got it from…” She sniffs.
“From who?” I stare at her, half bite dropping and saliva drooling into my jaw.
“From a beast.” She says, and smiles.
“Mum, beast?” I ask, bewildered. “Why do you scare me oftentimes?”
“You’re being too curious. Do you think I actually got it from a beast?” She pecks my forehead.
We resume eating. Silence.
“Mum, have you heard from Dad?” I ask, mouthing jambalaya. Damn hot.
“No, not yet. I will try to mindlink him.” She replies. “Sophia, did you make a friend already?”
“Obviously. Rose. That’s my friend.” I say, and she shuts my mouth with her pinky finger.
“Don’t you dare go near her. She’s a Vampire.” She murmurs.
I blow air rom my lungs enough to yank her hands off of me. “Mum, she’s an hybrid. Not a Vampire. I need a friend.” I tell her.
“Don’t you know Vampires are real dangerous?” Mum asks again, losing her appetite as she drops the plate carelessly.
“I told you she’s an hybrid. Afterall, you’re also a vampire.” I wink at her to lessenthe frown she gives me.
“I’m a Vampire?” She asks. “And you can say that?”
“No, mum. I am not being rude.” I move an inch back as she approaches to hit my chin.
“Your mother is a Vampire?” She repeats.
“You said it yourself. Isn’t it obvious?” I ask her, now on my feet. She bows, thinking of what to do but before she can raise up he head, a fire outbreak erupts from behind her.
“Mum!” I call out, and she lifts up her head. “Fire outbreak!”
“What?” She stares back and hesitantly rrises up.
“Come on!” I clasp her hands into mine and we run to anywhere.
The fire outbreak spreads across our direction and we increase our speeding rate the more. Hardly had we run into the street than mum steps on a solid object.
A dead inanimate object.
She screeches. I look back. We look back.
It is Dylan.
