Kent’s pace was quick and he went straight into the lift straight back to his office, and when Blanche found him again, he was already quietly sitting back in his seat, looking like he was in office mode.
“Sir Lewis!” she lifted her breath and stood in front of him, “You said you were going to fire me, but why haven’t I heard anything, and I haven’t made any mistakes at work, why?”
Kent lifted his eyes nonchalantly and glanced at her, his eyes cold, “I don’t need an assistant who doesn’t love herself.”
Blanche stiffened, “When have I ever not loved myself?”
She recalled carefully, not knowing what had occurred to her, and suddenly lifted her left hand, “Because of that?”
The man raised an eyebrow, undeniably.
“You!” Blanche’s face turned red with anger, “You’re taking this personally, it’s not an injury sustained on the job, you have no right to fire me!”
“I’m the boss, you’re just a little assistant, why shouldn’t I?” Kent’s gaze was cold, as if he was just talking about something that was perfectly normal.
Blanche was speechless for a moment, unable to retort.
She looked at him with hatred, “You want to deny me because of a wound? You don’t believe me, you don’t think I’m capable of fixing things, do you?”
“No, you’re wrong!”
Kent overturned everything she said, “I believe you and I know you’re a strong and capable woman who doesn’t even need me to worry about everything, but you still don’t get my point!”
What he wanted was not her insistence on being right or wrong, or her ability to solve anything perfectly, all he wanted was for her to realise that she was a woman, that even if she was strong, there were times when she couldn’t fight, that she could even ask him for help, and she?
She had gone home without saying a word, and if he hadn’t stopped her at her doorstep she might not have known it had happened, and she would have just chosen to hide it.
He didn’t understand how any woman could be so dead-hearted, and he didn’t know what to do with the woman in front of him.
Blanche’s eyes flashed as she looked at him, finally as he had said, “Kent, is it wrong for me to sort out my own affairs?”
She didn’t understand how this could be about work, or even serious enough to make him fire her.
Kent didn’t answer, looking at her without a trace of warmth in his eyes, “If you insist on thinking that, then you should leave before it’s too late!”
“You, you’re unbelievable!” Blanche glared at him in exasperation.
The latter didn’t care, he just shrugged, “Whatever you say, I’ve made up my mind anyway, what I do and how I do it is my business, now, please leave!”
“What about the handing over of affairs?” She said reluctantly.
“I haven’t found anyone to take over from you yet, I’ll contact you again to hand over when the new assistant arrives.”
“Good.”
Blanche nodded heavily, her heart overwhelmed with resignation, but her face still obstinate.
Finally, she left with a flourish as Kent watched, ignoring the unspeakable glint in the man’s eyes behind her.
The week after she left her job, Blanche ate angrily for a week, but the more she ate, the angrier she became, and the worse her mood got.
She was always aloof and didn’t have many friends, so when she thought about it Kent wouldn’t be at the orphanage unless it was a weekend.
Thinking about it, she grabbed her bag and left without saying a word.
The orphanage
The director was not expecting her to show up out of the blue, so she was busy welcoming her in, not forgetting to voice her doubts, “Did you have a fight with Kent?”
Blanche’s heart was pierced, and she shook her head vigorously, “No, I’m not in a position to be angry with him.”
That being said, it was all said in anger.
Dean chuckled,”I can guess even if you deny it, otherwise how could you possibly show up today when it’s not a double day?”
“I ……”
Blanche was never able to hide anything in front of her older counterpart, so she just shrugged her head and admitted it, “It’s his fault after all, I don’t know why I was sacked all of a sudden!”
“Sacked?”
The dean was a bit confused, obviously not expecting things to suddenly become so complicated.
The two of them walked along silently until they reached the courtyard, then the dean sat down unhurriedly, his eyes gentle, “You must have been holding a lot of grievances these days, just tell me what you want to say, no need to hide it.”
Blanche nodded hesitantly, and as if she had finally found an outlet for her anger, she immediately told him everything that had happened to her and Kent’s attitude.
By the end of the story, she thought she wouldn’t get angry, but the more she said, the angrier she became, and her face puffed up with anger.
“Dean, do you think that I really did something wrong?”
She looked at her, a flash of resignation welling up in the bottom of her eyes, “I never thought I was wrong to live the way I did, and I didn’t think I had any trouble dealing with those two little characters, I even had more than enough!”
But was Kent suggesting that she should think of herself as a weak woman asking for help, and then panic and tell the world she’d been kidnapped when she did?
She had goose bumps just imagining it.
There was a sudden silence from the dean, and Blanche’s gaze did not move away.
It was only after a long time that she heard the familiar voice of the dean in her ear. She took her hand and patted it in her palm and sighed softly, “Blanche, no matter what, you did wrong this time ……”
“I was wrong?”
Why, she had been kidnapped and injured for no reason at all, and not only did she receive no consolation, she received a dismissal from Kent afterwards, what was her fault?
“Take it easy.” The dean calmed her down and said with a light smile on his lips, “Kent was just worried about you, what he did was a bit too much, but I know that he had good intentions.”
“Sacking me was kind?” Blanche didn’t understand.
Dean nodded, “Blanche, have you ever thought that you are too strong sometimes, so strong that it hurts, I know you may be an expert in taekwondo, but even so that doesn’t mean you can fight a hundred to one, do you understand?”
Kent was doing all this just to get her to value her own safety, not to think that even if she met a kidnapper it wouldn’t matter if she got hurt!
Dean’s words rang just out of earshot and Blanche froze abruptly, not answering for a long time.
So ……
Kent wasn’t angry that she didn’t act like a woman, but that she didn’t care about herself?
