Alder’s POV
I hate Cindy’s idea. How can she protect me? It should be the other way around. Her mom, Isabel, told us about Mirasol’s mansions. I was shocked to learn that they have been operating illegal activities for a long time now. How can I be so stupid not to know that? I wanted to raid them all, but Isabel stopped me. She wanted to use that to our advantage.
“We can do that after we defeat her,” she said,
“How?” Lance asked,
“She will be complacent once she notices that we are not raiding all her mansions and will eventually think that we had no idea about it as well,” she answered.
“Mirasol will definitely get ahead of herself and will take that as her advantage and think that we have no idea about who we are dealing with or who our enemy is,” Cindy added,
“You mean, not attacking any of their mansions will be a bait for them?” Charles asked, and the mother and daughter nodded.
“I’m sure that her target will be you, Your Highness. He will try to get into your mind, so you have to stay low when they attack.” Isabel added.
“Like I am going to the bunker? No way!” I exclaimed.
“Let Cindy fight from the beginning.”
“No way! I am not going to let her fight them alone.”
“Not alone, of course. You have your beta and gamma.” Isabel replied,
“Do you think they will only attack on one side of the palace?” I asked mockingly.
“Of course not! They are going to attack you on all sides. But we will let them think that your high-ranking officials are busy defending the other part of the territory, but they were with us, looking after Cindy just in case she couldn’t handle her opponent.” she replied, and I could see that she was trying to be patient and careful in talking back. “You can easily bring your beta and gamma anywhere, right?” she asked. So she knew about the teleport thing.
“Then what am I going to do?” I asked, now a little calmer.
“Attacked on the right timing. If she can’t get to you, she will try to get into Cindy’s head. It will be difficult for her, but I am not saying that she won’t be able to do that. When she does, that’s when you will get in.” she answered.
Our head warriors are in position covering the entire border with our warriors. We informed them about what they needed to do since the enemy was going to attack any time soon. We told them not to be too obvious that we were expecting them and formed a layered defense and offense formation.
They needed to make other rogues, especially the one who was with Mirasol, and so she slipped in their defense. They need to let them pass their defense so they will be able to reach the training ground where we are waiting.
Everyone was in the bunker, and everything was prepared, so they had nothing to worry about. We assured them that everything was under control and that we would do everything to end the war.
Then here they are, baited, and Cindy couldn’t move. That is my cue. I ran as fast as I could and took down the rogue. I can say that he was strong, but my mate could definitely take him down. If not for that witch who was trying to get into her mind, she would have done it already. He shifted, and so did I. Ares was in good shape, and he was angry with the early battle since it was our mate who fought before us. I saw Lorena and Isabel start to say some incantations. I don’t know about it. They never told us about it. I looked at Cindy, and she was still standing still.
‘Are you not done yet?’ I mind-linked Lance and Charles.
‘Sorry, Alder, but there are other rogues here. But I’m about to get done.’ replied Lance,
‘I’m coming to protect Cindy.’ Charles said, and I sighed in relief, so I focused on the rogue in front of me. He is really strong. He was bleeding, but he could still stand on his fours. Just what is wrong with him?
I received mind links from different parts of the palace. Some said that they were done, and some said that a few more rogues had arrived. I told those who were done to reinforce others but leave someone who would look after the area they would be leaving.
“How dare you, Isabel!!!” I heard Mirasol shout angrily, so I couldn’t help but look at them. The branches of the tree began to wrap around Mirasol, and it was as if she was preventing it from happening. She was really strong because it seemed like Lorena and Isabel joined forces in bringing her down, but it was still very difficult for them. “You are not going to win against me!!!” she shouted again, then suddenly it thundered.
Because I was looking at them as well, I failed to dodge the rogue when he jumped at me and caught my leg, then bit it. It was painful, but I managed to get away from him, and I needed a few minutes to recover. I was limping, but I knew I could still manage.
‘I’m with her highness now.’ Charles said in our link, and I felt relieved.
‘Done here too, I’ll be with the witches.’ Lance’s mind linked me, too. Now, I had to finish this one as well, so I tried to dodge him first. I didn’t want to waste any more attacks that wouldn’t take him down. I had to be patient and wait for the perfect opportunity. I’m sure that my injury is getting into his head. Why not? I am King Alder, and yet he managed to get a piece of me.
The earlier thunder was accompanied by lightning before the heavy rain finally fell. And soon, the opportunity I was waiting for came. I looked at Cindy, but my attention was still on the rogue, and I could feel him getting closer to me while Mirasol’s attention was on Isabel and Lorena. This is the opportunity I took to teleport behind him. I know he was surprised when I suddenly disappeared in front of him. But he was even more surprised when I suddenly appeared behind him and bit his neck. I didn’t let him go until I felt that he was still feeling fine. When I thought he was getting weak, I quickly shifted to my human form, leaving my paws, and grabbed him by the neck before I took his heart, then separated his head from his shoulders.
I threw his head, and it rolled over Mirasol’s feet. Her eyes widened when she realized that I had already killed the rogue she was with. Then I started to feel the earth shaking. It was like the time when Cindy got angry, so I looked at her. The wind is gusting around her. ‘Alder, teleport me to Mirasol, now.’ Cindy’s mind linked me, and so I did.
“You’re already done, bitch!” she said before she stabbed Mirasol in her heart with a dagger.
